Okay!!! This is amazing! I'm imagining not wearing it as a "show up in it" outfit, but whipping it on in a restaurant or club when I feel chilly. And saying, "Oh this? I just made it!". xo karen
That's how I thought of using this for, but it would allow me to wear a cooler, simpler top because I would just need it for covering while this would be for keeping me warm.
I totally didn’t just make a late night emergency run to Joann’s to get fabric for this because serendipitously there was a big sale that ended tonight (I swear I didn’t make a mess and I was out of the store before they actually closed. Also, thank you for always trying to explain how to find the right measurements, and which areas need to be measured, to adjust your DIYs to match any individual’s size. As a short plus-sized woman it’s really nice to feel included 💖
@@schutty21 I got a very soft fleece that has good stretch and isn’t too thick or heavy (in a pretty purple plaid, not that that’s a relevant detail lol). I’m pretty sure the fabric she got is a “specialty fleece” that my Joann shelves near the designer fabric section and the fleece section. You can also go into your local store (even if it’s not a Joann fabrics) and show them the project and ask what they recommend. Keep in mind your own preferences for color, texture, and weight/warmth of the fabric you use. Also patterned fabric can be a pain to line up, so maybe keep that in mind 😅 They should also be able to help guide you with things like “beginner friendly” and “fray-resistant” materials. Good luck! I hope yours turns out well!
@@AngelicVox Thank you so much! This is really helpful and exactly what I needed. I'm in Australia, so no Joann's, but I will talk to my local fabric store to find out their recommendation. Thank you again ❤ I can't wait to make this! It has been living rent free in my head since the video came out! I went to my local store yesterday but was to intimidated and left with nothing. I am now feeling more confident to go back today 😁
Hi Orly, Chantal from @knitatude is the designer who designed and sells the knitted pattern at the beginning of your you tube video. Like you Chantal is a small business owner. I'm sure she would of loved a shout out from you, sharing the love between 2 women with small busineses.
It would be so neat to have that videotaped and Orley share that on her channel at the end of the year as a wind down of her styles! It could be fantastic 🤯
Fun idea! Tho w regard to the cuff application (sleeve into tiny cuff circumference) it might be easier to attach the cuff (well and possibly sleeve too) when it's flat, then stitch the cuff seam to close as a last step..... stuffing the sleeve into that tiny cuff "tube" is seriously sewing in the dark, all the while bound by a bungy strap!
I did a basting stitch (by hand) on the sleeve and gathered it a little. Then pinned sleeve and cuff at the seam, at other 3 quarters, and distributed the remaining sleeve gathers between the 4 points, pinning parallel to the raw edges. Once the gathers were "in place", I stitched it all together by hand. I was able to make the whole shrug in less than 2 hours, and didn't even use my machine!
Orly! This was so easy, that I went to the store, bought the fabric, measured myself, and SEWED IT BY HAND! I'm wearing it right now! It took me less than 2 hours, including the shopping. I will take it to the sewing machine later, but for now, it's super cool just the way it is. Thank you!
@Sweetlady1916 Use very long basting (gathering) stitches. Reduce both the sleeve and the cuff to the proper size. Match the seams. Backstitch to join, then use blanket stitches to finish the interior seam.
OMG, I was at JoAnn Fabrics yesterday, drooling over all the knits (all the apparel fabrics are on sale right now too-they’re all 30% off, until September 27, I think?). The shrug scarf is adorable, and I may try to make one, but I admit it’s the skirt I’m extra into. 😍 Looking forward to that video too!
Not only are all your videos amazing and tutorials so easy to follow, but YOUR ENERGY gets me amped to be creative! I love even just listening to your videos while I'm sewing or crocheting. I've stopped projects to try yours too haha thank you!🥰
Omg same! I don't even sew but i do like to hack my outfits and she's given me a bunch of crochet ideas. I love the way she explains things too. Makes it so simple to follow.
@@kandyappleview Agreed! She's just so sparky and fun the way she goes about things! Her hack for taking combat pants and making them fashionable has given me so many ideas for all of my old air force uniforms!
Ok ok ok.... I'm obsessed AGAIN 😂😂 i LOVE this type of dune/star trek/wars futuristic vibe😌 thank you! I'ma have to make this and tag you if I can ever get the confidence 🥶🤣
OK, I just found you by some incredible luck, and have been binge-watching your videos. All I can say is WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY INTERNET LIFE?!!!! Your content and personality have me hooked! You and your "Little" are adorable! So many amazing ideas!
I love that fabric. Do you know what it's called? I can't wait for the skirt video. I have some free people harem pants that have they most comfy/flattering rib knit waist band and I would love to learn how to put that kind of waist band on a skirt or pants.
I was looking for a wrap to make to go over a dress for a wedding. I think I found it, this will be perfect in my indigo Satin. Running to Joann’s right now!!
I am a seamstress/quilter/crafter and I tried something similar years ago with my first effort knitting...I crochet quite well but I wanted a very loose stitch and I taught myself to knit one stitch on very large needles. My finish was long and wide but I wasn't too happy with it. I then sewed the cuffs together and wore it like that. This is totally different. Just a little hint...when you have that much fabric to fit on a cuff...sew the cuff on before you sew up the sleeves...so much easier.
You are answering all my DIY versatile wardrobe dreams one at a time. I am already a sucker for a good wrap scarf. This is another homerun Orly. Thank you for the entire outfit pieces. When you make the skirt video can the length be a tad longer? I don't have nice thin thighs. Thanks so much.
When your circle is too small to fit onto the arm of your machine, sew on the inside of your circle. That puts all the extra fabric above your foot it makes it easier for you to maneuver it.
I couldn’t wait for this! I hope I find this exact material. I was planning on going to Joann’s today anyway! I am super excited about the skirt too. 😍 Thank you, Orly! You’re the best…arouuuund! 🎶🎶🎶
Awesome! I actually have fabric similar to yours and def will try this…wonder what all of my prayer-meeting friends will think…I’m 83 but weigh 85#…they’ll be sooo jealous😆😆😆…you’re the bomb!
I knitted the scarf that you show and its so cozy but now i want this sewn version with the skirt! Can't wait for that video to drop. I think they'd be perfect for travel since they wouldn't crush and you can mix and match.
THEYRE CALLED SHRUGS! 😂 they’re from the 90’s and omg I had one in every color and texture.. AND they used to sell just fashion SLEEVES? You remember those? And the little cuffs too? Man I miss 90’s fashion lol. Eff the 2000’s
This is amazing and I’m so grateful. I bought one of these in the airport in Atlanta several years ago and I absolutely love it and worn it to death. It’ll be nice to be able to make my own and in my own favorite colors!
Honestly, I taught myself how to sew and how to actually make my own patterns and understanding how to do stuff (still learning, still a journey) but I have NEVER seen anyone who inspired me more than you. You make the most simple and yet most beautiful creations on your channel. And honestly, this sleeved scarf, the top, the skirt: full on my aesthetic. I love this. I do have some knit fabric lying around (it's been stored away for over 2 years actually because I knew I wanted to make a dress or two piece out of it but couldn't figure out the style and shape for it yet) and this video really sparked something in me to finally make an actual garment out of it that I can wear this fall and winter season.
Love this. Hate showing my arms and this will give me so many more clothing options to wear. Might make it shorter as to being just enough to cover my arms.
Oh my I absolutely love this so much I'll be headed to Joann's tomorrow to look for that exact fabric 😁 Could you please tell me the name / type of fabric that is ?
Just want to say…You are just a gem of a person. I love watching your videos and get so inspired. Thank you for being you and sharing with all of us! ❤
I am thinking over the top fabric options for a New Year’s party or holiday event! Is gold lame stretchy enough, and does the stretch fabric have to be the same color on its front and back to create the gorgeous, continuous drape? Also, you could pirate cuffs off of a thrifted garment for variety and simplicity. The cuff method in the video was a little intimidating, so I would just gather them before adding the wristband piece! Very cool episode. Top five, in my opinion!😊
My sister and her Daughter are getting one of these for Christmas this year plus My daughter-in-laws are getting one and my twins daughter and daughter-in-law are getting one too! I better get busy.
Omg! It's beautiful 😍 I just saw this video last night and had to go for fabric shopping today. Unfortunately I didn't find the type of material you have but something nice and just finished my scarf/top woohoo!!! It's amazing!!! And I wouldn't call myself fluent with sawing, but your instructions are so clear and easy to follow 😉 Thank you so much 😊 skirt is next, I hope that I manage that too. Thank you 😊 💓
I just mad this today (only ne wrap around) and i used a bit of a thicker knit and its so cool am comfy i figured i can even wear it as a long statement scarf if i want to. thanks ly bye ❤

Yeah, how do the wrist 14:37 by hand?

This would be cozy for reading in bed in the winter. 🥶

What an ingenious idea! Love all the looks and how versatile this is. Well done, as always!😊
You can sew the cuff to the sleeve 1st before sewing the 12 inch arm seam and closing the wrist
as someone who lives in Florida I LOVE THIS as a way to extend my summer clothes to the christmas season because its only cold in the a/c here😂

For the thicker bulky stuff, you could use a quilting foot which takes the bulk into account.
Ok ok ok.... I'm obsessed AGAIN 😂😂 i LOVE this type of dune/star trek/wars futuristic vibe😌 thank you! I'ma have to make this and tag you if I can ever get the confidence 🥶🤣
