You can also get a used factory gauge cluster that has the transmission temperature gauge already, it’s a direct swap and the truck is prewired for the transmission temperature gauge so it will work without running any extra wires or sensors. If you can’t find a used cluster that has mileage close to your current odometer, you can have the replacement cluster programmed with the correct mileage. Less than an hour and you are done.
If you are using brass parts I personally wouldn’t use any tape. Brass has a really good sealing factor and tape can degrade over time and or possibly clog tubing/lines.
The cooler is a must during high summer temps. The factory cooler is ok for some but if you're towing it's not enough. I bought the biggest trucool I could find.
Doing this to mine now, but I am just adding the GM trans temp gauge to my cluster in my 2003 Yukon. Cluster looks like the HD cluster when done. You just add the new gauge overlay and the stepper motor. The truck is wired for the trans temp already, once the cluster is set up, it is plug and play. I like your setup as well. Nice work!
I have high hopes, but I must admit, I am kind of partial to the look of what you did as well. That gauge on the A pillar has an old school badass feel...
Yeah you need to program the ipc to acknowledge there is a trans temp. Your easiest way would be to swap the cluster from a heavy duty truck. Its plug and play. No problems. Up to you if you want to transfer the mileage.
I don't getting adding a transmission temp gauge pod it's very easy to add to the stock cluster if you didn't have it from the factory. If you aren't comfortable Soldering just buy a factory cluster with the gauge already on it and either program it yourself if you have the tools or pay someone to program the odometer to your milage. no wires being cut it added. All the trucks had the sensor from the factory.
All these comments saying.."YoU cOuLD'Ve jUsT UsED a 2500 cLuStER" well damn! I want to put a temp gauge but since everyone saying to swap cluster.. someone send me one to swap😂😂
All you had to do was to buy a Escalade cluster and replace it, the Escalade cluster has the temperature gauge on it, every gm suv had a temperature sensor
Does it plug and read Temps? Or is there still a temp sensor to wire to the escalade cluster ? I have a ss cluster ready to be swapped out for a stock cluster .
i'm in the process of doing the same, I have the 6L80 and I'm worried about how deep the sending unit goes in. Concerned it might obstruct something. Your sending unit looks just as deep as mine. Hard to find any information on the 6L80 and aftermarket temp gauges. I'm sure it would ok But I still want know it's ok. Glowshift can't even tell me if I need a port extender or not
Its in contact with fluid. In fact its right in line with the pump. So its the temp as its entering and exiting the pump. If you ask me that's a good place to check the temp
You did all of this for nothing man. All you had to do was swap out your instrument panel cluster with one from a heavy duty truck that has a gauge and it would have worked instantly. The sending unit is already there and its plug and play I just did it to my 03 sierra last week and the gauge is fully functional and accurate (compared it with a scan tool)
It's also illegal unless its certified by a licensed speedo shop. it is a good idea to just use a cluster and I didn't know that but I personally really like the pillar mount guage.
How much wire did you need for this? A kit i got only gives about 3 or 4 ft of wire. I was wondering if its long enough but the a pillar and trans are actually a little closer than one would think lol maybe it will work
Did you have any issues with the sender probe extending to far into the transmission and closing off flow to another opening? Curious because I see glow shift has a special sensor for this application just because of that potential issue.
@@blue4184 I bought the Autometer he mentioned in video. If I where to do this again. I would purchase a glowshift and buy their sensor specifically for the 4L60E. Gs-ts-11. The reason, worry of depth in passage of trans. My measurements indicate the auto meter fully blocks it. I still used it but added a fitting to pull away from passage. Muddy beards has had no issues but I haven't had the time to research the port. I have a scanner that tell me trans temp as reported to ecm and at times there is a discrepancy. My setup runs colder then what is reported to ecm I believe because I moved the sensor out. Changing cluster to me is not an option because the odometer will need reflashed.
WOW just send out your factory gauge cluster to have the transmission temp module installed and EEPROM programmed OR why not get the whole thing rebuilt with new lights and X27 stepper motors for like $165… these GMT800 trucks are already pre-wired for transmission temp /facepalm
Every time I am doing some kind of install, I grow to further despise the thinking that put fuses on the drivers side under the dash. What is wrong with these engineers? First, the pretzel aspect: it is THE most awkward place in the vehicle to do any kind of work on account of the steering wheel. Second, and more importantly, is general safety. What if your car dies while driving? You pull over, and maybe might like to check fuses, right? But that leaves both a door and your butt sticking out into traffic. Good luck, dude. Wake up, SAE: put fuse boxes on the passenger side if they are to be located in the cab.
Thanks man. The guage is an autometer 4357. There is a link in the description but that's for the guage and pod combo for the chev. Might have to search up one for a jeep a pillar.
Muddy Beards 4X4 gonna do some looking are for a black face gauge but white will work if it has to Jeep more of a mall crawler/ hot rod has a Btr Stage 4 cam arp hardware and a built 4l60e on 37’s 6”suspension 3” body lift

I personally like the look of the factory trans temp gauge on the silverado but this helped me decide on a location for my duramax
I think the best place to read the fluid temp is in-line close to exiting the transmission. At that point, if its reading 175-180, your in good shape.
Thanks
The autoMeter gauge will read faster and be more accurate than factory anyway. well done.

I know a couple people with the same truck that came stock with trans temp gauge.
That fuse connector is very good idea.
Thanks for the video! Just installed mine and it works great! Very informative

Once you've added the trans guage to the cluster will you need to do additions installation of the transmission sensor?
Thanks for the in depth vid, just what I needed. How old Is your German Shepard? They are very loyal.
good job im doing same things to my 05 to make it a better tow rig dont forget to add oil cooler also

My 2000 runs at 140 degrees pulling a 7500 pound camper. It goes up to 170 when on hilly roads.
Install a trans cooler

Is it just plug and play?
Im sure it is. If not it wouldn't be hard to figure it out. You'd just need to run your new wire for temp to cluster.
Lol yeah. The clusters are hard to get on part outs usually first thing gone immediately
You have to reflash the milage on the prom.
Good job man.

@@Jay-iz5oc it’s already built in the car they just put it in the Cadillac cluster to sell it as a add on 😂
From my experience your trans temp in these trucks should be about 100 degrees hotter than ambient air temp
Hey man great video is the link on amazon the entire kit or jsut the pillar mount?
Did any fluid spill when you pulled out pressure port bolt. ?
Not with the engine off. It's by the pump so when it's running it when fluid is passing through
Well done. Nice video
Thank you
What about the illumination wire? The dimmer wire
Why didn't you get a new instrument cluster in the dash with a temp Guage in it bottom left side?
Is your transmission a 4L60E if so will it be the same on my 04 gmc canyon it also has a 4L60E

Which one was the ignition switch fuse
Should have just got a custom cluster with it installed
They did come with them but it was an option
Can u put the link for the exact trans temp gage and temp reader?
Have you installed a coolant temp gauge. Recently my cluster gauge is acting up but my scanner reads good. Wondering if you have done one externally
Just pay somebody to repair your cluster and they should go through the entire thing and check/test/replace anything else that needs it
What is an average temperature of your transmission?
Daily driving it seldom gets above 120. Same with towing running down the highway. Gets to 170 ish when towing my jeep up dirt roads
How hot is normal
Does that pressure bolt come in contact with the fluid? Or are you just reading the ambient temperature of that area of the transmission?
Its in contact with fluid. In fact its right in line with the pump. So its the temp as its entering and exiting the pump. If you ask me that's a good place to check the temp
Is your cooler a stand alone or also plumbed thru radiator?
Undo it… if you have an aftermarket cooler run the trans lines directly to it not through the radiator

With glowshift you have to use that specialty
where you et the sensor thingy, not the gauge
It came with the kit
What is average temperature transmission Chevy Silverado 250 ???
That really depends. Loaded down and towing it will get a little higher. But 100 degrees over ambient is considered pretty normal
No more than 180 or so

Part of the kit that is linked in the video
Where did you get the wire from to hook it up
I just got some wire from the auto parts store
Will any 18 gauge wire work
I'm sure it would but automotive wire is designed for the 12 volt system
Ok thank you imma hook one on my truck within a couple of weeks
Right on man. Good luck

Couple hours. It's mostly wiring

I would never drill and tap the pan like that. Not in a million years. Why wouldnt you put it in line?
