  • For this years airshow, Qantas performed a charity flight. The flight flew from Sydney direct to Avalon and performed a 3000ft flyover of the airfield before its actual arrival. The flight was originally meant to be flown by VH-OEB, but switched to VH-OJU at the last minute. This is their last 747 fitted with the Rolls-Royce engines after VH-OJS retired a few weeks ago. Having the opportunity to capture this aircraft in action from an airside position was absolutely fantastic and I hope you enjoy my footage as much as I enjoyed filming it!

I'm 44 years old and the 747 has always been in the skies since I was born. I can't relay how heartbreaking it is that our beloved Queen is retiring from passenger service after 50 years! I'm a born and bred American and have seen many liveries on the Jumbo, but Qantas nailed it with the unmistakable roo. I will always and forever think of the Boeing 747 when I hear the word Qantas. Thank you, Australia for representing the Queen of the Skies for so many decades. 🇦🇺🇺🇸❤

Amazing to see OJU in action so close and in some mint light as well, certainly had my attention when this went up, what a pleasant change in aircraft as well for a change, top notch as always these will be sorely missed.

No worries, mate. She will be flying for many more decades in cargo form. And don't forget, there are quite a few 747-8i and 747-8F variants just beginning their legacies. Maybe you'll get to see some soon. Cheers.

Does anyone know why QF swiched VH-OEB to VH-OJU?
