    I’ll never claim to be a flight review / trip report guy, but I thought I’d take you all on my first Qantas 747 flight from Sydney to Avalon! I have no idea if I’ll do more trip reports but if so I know I have quite a fair bit to learn as it’s a lot harder than it seems! Credit to the likes of Dennis from DennisBunnik Travels who produces content like this! With that being said, I hope you all enjoy my trip report / flight review!

      I know this is outside of your comfort zone but you did a great job. Dennis is a legend and another great Aussie is @paul stewart ( even though he is a ginger lol). Funnily enough I watched Dennis' latest trip report immediately before this video.
      The flights are a great thing having seen one before and congrats on getting to be a part of one. I didn't know about your nut allergy. If you're ever back in the UK we'll take a BA flight together. They have a set procedure for people like yourself to keep you safe.

    I just love your video clips, especially this one. Yes, the Boeing 747 is a very special aircraft, so special that it's been given a special name. The Queen of the skies. I don't think that any plane got so many sweet memories than the Boeing 747. Thank you for all your very informative videos. Keep up the good work.

    Great report! It’s awesome that this flight was so empty and you were able to document the 747 so well. Sadly it won’t be much longer before they’re all retired. I was lucky enough to fly on the Qantas Queen of the Skies about 10 years ago and loved it.

  • @BillHalliwell
    @BillHalliwell 5 лет назад +2

    G'day Dj, Thank you so much for documenting this rare type of flight. I'm also so pleased that you've now experienced The Queen of the Skies! When this aircraft was new imagine how special the passengers must have felt, like I did on my first 747 flight back in the 70s. Later on we got to experience a flight to London with PAL on a 747 in First Class because they were offering such a bargain price. It didn't matter that our 747 on that journey was old, one of the first Jumbos produced that was purchased by PAL from Pan Am. It had the original, 'rickety', aluminium spiral staircase to the upper deck which had more 1st class seats and a bar/lounge area. The whole aircraft shook and rattled like a huge bag of bolts but we didn't care it was a magnificent experience.
    It was also great to see you land at Avalon; bringing back memories of my RAAF days when I'd get 'jollies' on C130 training flights into Avalon, doing circuits of touch and goes between Avalon and Point Cook. You were lucky to see a USAF B-52 up close; you've got one up on me; I've been fascinated with that aircraft for decades but never got to see one visiting a RAAF base.
    As one of your minor supporters I'm so happy that you use your resources to do trips like this and I reckon you should do all the trip reports you can manage. {So, come on people, let's get together and help Dj do his thing and clock up many more flight hours!}
    Thanks again, Dj, excellent job! Cheers, BH

      Tech. Is. Best. Ok so true, wasn’t it meant to just be a stock filler that airlines could buy to after use as a cargo aircraft, when Boeing brought out there equivalent of the airbus a380 (before the a380 was relieved) and it obviously never happened

    Qantas was amazing with my 747 flights a few weeks ago. I was sitting in economy but near the end of my flight to Hawaii, they moved me to the flight crews private room on the upper deck while we landed and then I toured the cockpit afterwards. The cabin crew knew it was my favorite aircraft. 😁

    Soo cool! Thanks for the video, and yes, please more tripreports! You were pretty good and it was full of details! So thanks for that! Especially as it was a very unique flight, not some flight which operates daily.
    I flew on a 747-400 domestically last month, but it was from Phuket to Bangkok on THAI, which is also a short 1h-hop. But they operate that route regularly on the 747. It was also my first flight on the Queen of the Skies! Thai‘s 747 look way more outdated than the one of Qantas tbh.
    I‘m from Germany, but I missed the opportunity when Lufthansa flew its 747-400 domestically from Berlin-Tegel to Frankfurt twice-daily in December 2017, after Air Berlin went bankrupt.
    And thanks for the amazing view of Melbourne, my home town last year. Sadly I moved back to Germany just a couple of weeks ago, but Melbourne will always have a special place in my heart and I want to go back asap!

    Aesthetically , I actually prefer the 777 interior over the 787. I like how the bins are higher up in the cabin and go into the ceiling. The only downside to the 777 interior is that they mostly have fluorescent white lights and the 787 led lighting is nicer.

    The morning aircraft headed back to Asia which is why you had the other 747 for the afternoon.

    love your channel mate, just out of interest, what is the shortest / cheapest route that the 747 flies? I've not been on one, and would really like to, before they go

    Still an iconic flight review. By the way, what’s the cheapest way to fly the queen of sky?

    Hey @djsaviation I never knew a severe allergy meant I could board early, thanks for pointing that out! I’m (believe it or not, it’s still true) I’m severely allergic to chicken, turkey, treenuts & eggs, so I’ll def ask next time I fly if I can board early too!

    Older the plane, the more comfortable. I flew on a new 777-300ER last year and seat was so uncomfortable. An older 767-300ER I flew on in 2015 was so comfy. The automobiles today are the same unfortunately.

    My goal is to travel Thai Airways’ 747 from Sydney to Bangkok before they’re gone, it would also be my first 747 flight.
    Qantas and BA don’t really stick out to me for their 747s.

    How tall are you? Because that's often a factor in how comfortable you are.
