just got done finishing a tele body with tru oil and I found it to be really really easy, probably not too different from this finish method/products, thanks for sharing this with us.
Keep in mind that we know what's in polymerized tung oil. It's just polymerized tung oil and either mineral spirits (Original) or a citrus-based solvent (Botanical). No one knows what's in Tru Oil!
Hi Chris as always excellent work with this video. Thanks ! Quick question, how would you handle the sanding steps if you had applied a color on the wood before ?
Hey Chris! Did you investigate the Sutherland Welles wiping varnish or Murdoch’s? Those seem very intriguing as well. I like the idea of the resin component. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks as always!
im bildiing a neck through 8 strng as my first scratch build, and iv already put 100 hours into it and iim about 75% through. im at the point to where i would kill somebody for a cnc
Can I use alcohol based stains with these Tung oil products ? I wanted to do a fade or figure out a way to use Tung oil with stain to make it glow more thanks
Yes, you can use alcohol based stains with these tung oil products. Test on scrap first as you may need to seal the dye so it won't reactivate when you wipe on the oil.
Such a valuable tutorial. The tip about the sanding dust showing the imperfections is absolute gold! Thank you.
Stunning looking finish 👌🏻

I wouldn’t apply color to the wood if I were going to use an oil finish.
I love this guitar! I wish I had thought of it first. (Where do you get your tac rags?)
Home Depot.

Sutherland Welles. I haven’t tried Murdoch’s and doubt I ever will. SW’s PTO works well enough.
