    I started buying gold because about 20 years ago I was a coin collector. I still do a bit of collecting but not nearly as much as I stack. When I buy gold to save I get the boring popular stuff. When I buy to collect I buy what I want and worry about moving it along later. Doing both is fine, just know which you're doing

    Found my LCS via the US Mint website...he put an AGE, a CML, and a PAMP Suisse bar on the counter and said, "this is what is liquid in this market." Second thing he said was that when the economy is bad, Westerners buy gold; when the economy is good, Westerners sit on the sidelines; Asians buy gold no matter what the economy is doing, and they want 24K. I walked out with my first Canadian Maple Leaf coin.

    Being an Aussie I only buy Perth Mint and there are no premiums for the fancy coins, so I have all of the lunars and other ones like Swan, Emu etc all for the same price as a Kangaroo. Only the proofs go up for a hefty premium - so not doing that - but the 1oz Lunar Dragons for no additional over standard price… cheering!! And… when they are sold out they go up (on secondary market) which is pretty awesome - not that I’ll ever sell! Great video like usual!

    When I first started out I was prepping. After 1,000 ounces of silver, I started mixing in gold. After that I was saving for emergencies that didn't involve shtf for the world, so much as me and my finances. Do I value metals as a prep item today? Of course. But there has to be some kind of functioning economy for it to be useful. Since you asked, I would love to see you outline how to conduct peer to peer selling whether that's online or otherwise. I've only sold back to dealers/LCS's, and have no idea how to find private buyers.

    There's a lot of shops that will buy your gold for, at least, weight. So another strategy would be to buy the cheapest gold you can find then sell after the spot price covers your premium.
    Which...one would only do anyway regardless of the coin or round they purchased.

    having a little of both does not hurt the goal, because Gold is still Gold, there is always a fun aspect to it when ever you buy a coin. I am rethinking my storage solutions as well. I like your 50 oz gold - two year emergency fund. I have adopted that as well. The problem is when you amass too much (there isn't such a thing) then what? Everyone is going to say, "you don't hold it, you don't own it". If there’s a real SHTF event, one prepper in 1000 will have the right combination of goods that will give them the critical advantage. I hope I have the right combo but who knows. I have gold and silver mainly because of fiat currency risk. The “fun stuff” doesn’t make sense to me but I’m just another guy on the internet with an opinion. Thanks for making these videos, your thought process is very interesting.

  • @The_Argent

    Gold and silver are preparedness for the mathematical certainty of the collapse of the value and fungibility of the USD. I live in an area where myself and other people, especially farmers market vendors, routinely trade in silver and gold.
    That being said, in a true SHTF situation, you have the rule of fatal threes:
    - 3 minutes of uncontrolled bleeding
    -3 minutes without air
    - 3 hours of exposure
    -3 days without water
    -3 weeks without food (although some of us might be more prepared in that aspect lol)
    All that being said. Know how to acquire those things (your prepper stockpile will eventually run out or could be rendered useless by fire/flood/theft), know how to defend them and know what to do if that bit goes sideways.

    Excellent advice. Keeping the bulk of your stack will allow you to sell when you need to so much easier. High premium collectibles are nice and I have some, but very few.
    I can move 10 ounces of silver buffalos to someone at church or anywhere else easier than I can get them to take a 10 ounce half nekid lady bar... right? He might want it, but he ain't coming home with it. 😂

  • @edb3877
    @edb3877 4 месяца назад +4

    Good video on an important topic. I've lost track of all the comments I've read where people say, "I'm never selling my gold or silver." IMO, that's terrible financial management.
    Every asset one owns has a use case or two and should also have a reason for selling. Do I like gold and silver? Heck, yeah! But if there was a life and death issue in my family,
    would I hold onto my gold and silver and not protect my family? No, of course not. Same goes for my home. I need to be able to pay my property taxes when they come due
    and if that means selling some PMs from time to time, then so be it. Hard times would become a lot harder if one becomes homeless and that's what's most likely to happen
    if one does not pay their property taxes. A decent standard of living for my family also matters a great deal, so I also would sell some PMs from time to time if that meant
    living better during the course of my life. Otherwise, what's the real point of owning tangible assets?
    My gold stack is getting sizable these days and consists of GMLs, AGEs, and a few Britannias. I have both 1-oz. and fractional oz. coins, so can tailor my gold sales to the amount
    needed to solve the problems as they come up, leaving the bulk of my assets in gold rather than in cash. These coins are likely to be easily liquidated if / when cash is needed. I
    don't have a shortage of cash in my life, so the likelihood of needing immediate cash via liquidating PMs is small. But they are available for that purpose upon the need to do so.
    I manage my money and assets carefully, trying to extract the maximum value from owning them. I have a good plan for doing this that isn't perfect but then neither am I. One of
    the better aspects of having a financial plan is that it can be changed when necessary. As long as I avoid the temptation to tinker excessively with my plan, it will go reasonably
    well. It doesn't have to be perfect to be of considerable value.

    Another good video. I take issue with your prepper orientation as secondary to preserving wealth. I was one of the original back-to-the-landers in 1969 and so beyond prepping before the term "prepping" was coined. I have gone into the prepping idea at length in my books so I won't belabor the issue.
    I am buying fractional gold because it will be easier to use after collapse AND I can get it for 5.17% over spot. I live in France so concentrate on the 20 franc coins from Switzerland, France and Belgium. 19th and 20th century. I am waiting for a good time to buy UK sovereigns as I know many UK ex-pats.
    Collapse is already baked into our future. If I was still in the US I would buy more silver and probably gold at SD and JM Bullion. Silver is subject to VAT in Europe, while investment gold is not. What I recommend most of all is "build community." In addition to social activities, I give food away. I did this even when I was a market gardener. My latest book is Paradigms for Adaptation and it came out in January. It is a self-help book for realists. Most of the people who watch your videos are probably doing what I recommend anyway.

    2 is one, what do you think about buying random coin of various sizes from off marketplace. I’m in Australia and I only buy locally around spot price. The type of coin has never bothered me it all comes down to price and weight.
    I feel it’s a better method as you get more metal in more pieces for less dollars, Never had to sell but I’d hope it’s as easy selling them at spot as selling kangaroos or eagles
    For example, sovereigns can get for spot or below, small coins 1-5 grams around spot or below sometimes.

    • @edb3877
      @edb3877 4 месяца назад +2

      @@sed6 Agreed. It's also recognized as valuable by just about every culture out there. Owning gold during a financial collapse, which isn't really all that hard to
      imagine happening, would allow one to scoop up a lot of valuable assets, such as rental houses and duplexes, profitable small businesses, and the stocks of the
      strongest companies out there. Owning this sort of asset should be of immense value as the economy is rebuilt. Central banks around the world do not stack
      gold by the ton because it is pretty. J.P. Morgan himself said that, "Gold is money and everything else is credit." During hard times, I prefer to hold real money in
      my own hands rather than the paper promises of the dying fiat currencies. Some currency is needed but not as a significant portion of one's net worth.

    My suggestion for understanding SHTF is visit one of the darker places on the planet where the S Hit The F. It’ll give you some practical education. Following internet preppers is entertainment. Like playing paintball instead of enlisting. I love your videos and agree with your assessment. Having gold for now, in the moment, today, as a savings vehicle and a financial insurance plan is good business. Having wealth outside the system (whatever system that might be) is a good backup. Gold has the potability you mention. I think keeping it as a concept for everyday barter is a bad idea. I suppose one could make the case for silver here. Gold is more foundational. Get yourself set back up and on your feet somewhere, somehow. It’s a cover your ass asset. It’s international too. I am lucky enough to have weathered the 2008/09 financial crisis and have the family history of weathering depressions. That’s what gold is for. You can lose your bank or your paper money to the folly of others. You can hold your gold. Gold is for here and now. I don’t believe in zombies.

    preparedness is the ability to perpetuate 'normalcy' in hard times.
    That definition established, gold/silver/liquid barter could be useful. But only after you have you home nesseled into a very low population density area, effective security, comunity, hooves on mature pasture, gardens established and at the very least 6Mo of food put up.
    After that. I say sure put up some liquid barter.

    • @edb3877
      @edb3877 4 месяца назад

      No, hoarding is what one does when they KNOW that a bad situation is occurring and are seeking to profit from it. Stacking is what people do to prepare for an unknown
      financial issue beforehand without regard to cheating anyone. Anyone can choose to stack before there is a financial disaster but many choose not to because they do
      not see the need for it at this time. This is a Catch-22 situation. By the time everyone knows that stacking should be done, PMs will have risen greatly in price and become
      unobtanium. Those who stacked *before* that happens, will be in good financial shape.

    Gold makes you prepared for the post event of whatever happens, be it a economic collapse, or just old age. Having a food, and weapon supply with a secret bug out location, does not make you prepared, just gives you a better chance.
    If you notice, in end of the world movies, the first thing the survivors do, is start killing each other. I have been in survival forums, and guess what, the general ideas in everyones mind, is to treat everyone else like a threat, and make plans for eliminating them. If you have to approach anyone, keep your weapons on them,, good way to get shot.
    People have no idea of what a BOB is really for. I have saw packs with so many items, some 3-4 of the same item, it would be to heavy to carry very far.
    And if you have a BOB, you probably always have a place to go, so you should already have supplies stashed there.
    A BOB should have just the right amount of gear and food, to get you from point A to point B, and to allow your to travel fast.
