  • Mr. ME! doesn't like grabbing items. He may have decided to not be morally corrupt like Isaac is, but this quick video should explain and show you how to increase your chances of getting free items from the shop (or the devil deal) more reliably. This quick video should show you how to use Mr. ME!
    Mr. ME! is a new item added in Booster Pack #3 for The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ and it's a 4 charge active item which you can use to do many things. When Isaac uses it, you can send mr. me to grab a consumable, an item for you, you can even send him to blow up a tinted rock or a secret room, but most importantly, you can send him to grab a shop item, free of charge. It works on devil deal items too! He can fly over chasms or go over walls, nothing stops this bad boy.
    The item does have some inherent chance of failing, but from my internal testing I've found it easier to aim at the item that I want if I aimed behind the item instead of top on it. It's a minor gripe at this point and it probably won't affect the outcome of whetever you'll get the item or not, but I figured I'd let the video stay up anyway for its informative value in other regards.

    it's 33% of a failure when it will try to pick it up ;) *don't tell anyone*

      Ah it's you! Good lord I've been obsessing over this ever since I found it on a daily run and I just couldn't figure out why it was failing sometimes. I went into the game thinking I'll get to the bottom of this and sure enough I find a "way" that makes the item reliable - not picking up other items/drops, but it also seems to mitigate this *poof* mechanic. So I test further and I must've restarted about 10 times and without fail I've managed to pick up 90% of the items that I found. I figured there's still some inherent chance of it just failing, but I couldn't pinpoint on exactly what that number would be. arggh my life is over, but hey at least I had fun experimenting and since science is about the process and not the result I'm happy with how this turned out. :p Thanks for the heads up!

      this was a little balance from Ed because it was a little OP

      I still think there's some value in aiming behind the item as opposed to directly on it since it seems a bit easier to draw a straight line with digital controls as opposed to trying to center it but really that's so minor that it probably doesn't hold much value.
      I find it so interesting how even though logically it would make most sense for there to be a balance change a lot of us thought it's because the reticle isn't "accurate" enough, I suppose it's just the *poof* animation that makes it seem like it's not doing anything useful and just fizzling as opposed to not delivering you the item. Thanks man!

    Look at me I'm Mr. Me! I guess this is the best they can do to prevent any copyright problems, but I'm glad to see this item officially in the game just in time for Rick and Morty's upcoming season.

      I haven't seen Rick and Morty, but I have heard that it's a reference to it! I love that there's a way to incorporate items like this into the game while still keeping the original spirit and the reference in mind (and even more amazing as to how good this item actually is!). It's such a unique and cool concept I can't help but think this is what finally tips me over to go and watch Rick and Morty.

    If anyone saw this pop up and then disappear for a minute it's because I accidentally uploaded a 25fps version instead of 60fps. Mr. ME! stole the other 35 frames so blame him, not me. The video should be buttery smooth now!

      Also there seems to be some inherent chance of the item just failing, but I wasn't really able to arrive at any specific conclusions due to limited testing, it might just be a placebo effect, but it did make me feel like I'm a bit more accurate with using this "method" - no certain conclusions as of yet.

    Thanks for testing this out! My greed mode run earlier seemed to have his success at 100%, but that might be because it was sucked into apollyon's void. This next part is unrelated, but the first time I ever used Mr. Me, I told him to attack a mega maw boss in the boss trap room. Instead of attacking, he grabbed the penny just underneath the boss and wasted my charge.

    • @Eufuu
      @Eufuu  7 лет назад +1

      It's interesting that you raise the point that maybe with the void it's a 100% chance rate, I've decided to test it out in-game and it seems like the 33% chance of failing is still there, you were just lucky. So in conclusion there's nothing more to it than the 33%, even if it's sucked up by the Void. It's good to know that you can aim it behind the item as well since that does allow you to be a little less precise, but ultimately it won't really increase your odds of getting the item, that was just confirmation bias on my part (and some ridiculously "unlucky" RNG when I was testing). It's like trying to catch pokemon and pressing A every time the pokeball shakes to increase your odds except maybe even sillier in some regard.

      While I'd love to credit for this, one of the developers actually commented after and suggested there's just a flat 33% chance of him failing to pick up items - which came as a surprise to me too because I could swear this "technique" actually managed to work for me, but it turns out I was just extremely lucky (or unlucky?) when I was testing it out.

    If mr me makes a devil deal free, will it still ruin angel deal chance?

    • @Eufuu
      @Eufuu  5 лет назад

      No! Your angel deal chance only gets ruined if you actually pay the hearts to buy the item. A similar logic could be applied to diplopia as well where the duplicated items don't decrease your angel deal chance.
