I must admit at first look I thought this show was ridiculous, but I'm now hooked on these excellent, insightful interviews. The intro just doesn't do them justice :D
I cant begin to say how much I enjoyed this show, I have never had satellite TV, so I had no chance of seeing this at the time. I always liked Tony Knowles, and if memory serves, he won the 6 ball tournament not so long ago, which was no surprise to me. I always wondered why he never made a bigger mark on the snooker Championships, a bit like Mathew Stevens, two players I thought would do better than they did, but are still up there in my top 16 players of all time. This is the best technical discussion I have ever heard about snooker, and there is so much information that is never spoken about, I enjoyed every minute. What a great series, I have not watched them all yet, but the Clive Everton and David Vine episodes were excellent. I always wondered how Clive became a commentator, as nobody ever eludes to how it took place. I have always watched and enjoyed snooker, and I have always though Ronnie was the biggest talent to pick up a cue, I had a very good friend called Jamie, with a very similar style and attitude. He would be having a bad day, and still out playing anyone around him, but he would get upset he was not playing well enough, many a time he has broken his cue in disgust with himself. Thanks for uploading this episode, it answers so many questions about Tony Knowles that I always wanted to know. I would like to hear a similar thing with Mathew Stevens, but that will probably never happen.
Tony Knowles provides absolutely amazing and fantastic snooker detail into the many problems that older snooker players face. and wow this information is highly valuable
As a night watchman doing 14 hour shifts in dead of night..these snooker docs are a godsend. Im stealing money here, got a heater , packet of hobnobs and hours of snookertastic, cctv ignoring double rate pay happiness. Thank you for post. Ill get a nap in then watch rest, only ten hours till morning shift on better get comfy.
I would like to see more of these too especially the one where Steve chats with Ray Reardon discussing when Alex Higgins came on the scene in the early 70's whilst living in Oswaldtwistle for a brief time......
tony was and is a class guy we used to meet him in the pubs and clubs every year in Tenerife through out the 80,s, ,he was some man was tony , allways down to earth and humble had time for everybody ,even more so if you had a pelmet on ! he once got to two in the world but with the fillys he was definitely number one in the rankings.
Tony came over really well in this interview. Open hearted with great northern honesty and humility, and without any 'side' or attitude. Steve, like many successful modern sportsmen and women, is still the same obsessed ego. His eyes and mouth are saying different things. Time has still not returned the character and personality that it took away from him when it put a cue in his hand.
To be fair … as the host, Steve should let Tony talk. Steve kept trying to interrupt but Tony wouldn’t let him, and went on to finish his point. I was glad he did. And in Steve’s favor, he did a great job creating an atmosphere where the guest feels comfortable enough to talk so in-depth.
Good interview, interesting insight, Tony hardly gave Steve a word in edgeways, like when Steve was asking how he can improve, Tony rambled on around the houses about what Steve was asking when Steve just wanted him to give an answer.
Amazing insight into what may happen when you over analyse your game and try to train out the impulsiveness that made you a great player in the first place. The complete opposite of Steve who tried to train in aggressiveness when he should have tried to improve what he was already a master of, his defensive play and counter attack..
Two top men good interview but I would have loved too talk to them having a few beers and the camera off it would have been a great night good luck to Tony and Steve x
The negatives are only in your own mind. But when you start missing easy shots for no reason its going to destroy your coincidence not matter what you think .
He got to the quarter finals in 1983 I was hoping to see Tony Knowles v Steve Davis in the final but sadly Cliff Thorburn got there against Steve Davis
That would have been a great final. Cliff was exhausted and It was a difficult time for him. That said, I was hoping for a Reardon Davis Final and had Ray beaten Tony that was a very real possibility as Ray was playing very well that season.

I don't but it is available to watch for free on Matchroom Live when you sign up. No costs involved and about a dozen episodes of this series available to watch.
I thought this video was Davis interviewing Knowles about his career, not Knowles putting Davis right about what was wrong with Steves game at the time of filming! My god, Tony can talk, and for a time he walked the walk, but he really does have verbal diarrhoea!
How can Steve grin about the Knowles defeat when Tony has just assassinated the idea of Steve being outplayed by a really stellar performance in 1982? Probably by a desire to acquiesce to an establishment where every dual is deemed replete with great play both ways; yawn, and while you're at it, please, please tighten up the pockets and give us some proper drama in 2019!
Couldn't get a straight answer out of Tony. He's not the brightest star in the sky and I can only remember him as a 10% Jimmy White. As for Davis, he just bossed everyone about on the table until Hendry came and then Davis just couldn't cope with the fact that Hendry could do what he did and even better. Hendry burned out fast too as Ronnie and Higgins came about to challenge Hendry and after his 7th world titles he was gone.
@@CandleLight1974 Yip, he's looking the best he has in years at the mo with the new beard & hairstyle and by letting a little bit of grey in as well. V distinguished.
Surely if a taxi driver gets to the semis this year b2019. Surely it's an easy game 😉👌 Joking of course what a time to be a snooker player Alan Burnett if you still alive fancy a practice I will hit a few centuries again but we have a good game. Burnet Alan the best player I ever seen live he was deadly but give me a chance and few centuries back to you. Great player and good man he poison my drink in last 16 crafty wee fecker 😉 Ok at 1-1 you hit 3 70s and an 80: you must have drugged me with your sore neck 😎
Tony is a lovely person, as real as you get, good snooker player, humble comes across sincere.

Steve Davis is a total class act,a great snooker player and person,So is Tony.
Skeefoo Panama He is now. When he first started he was an arrogant tosser
When he was Number 1 I hated him but he's a real gent and great sense of humour.
Knowles' win over Davis in 82 is still the most shocking upset in the modern era in my opinion!
Tony Knowles provides absolutely amazing and fantastic snooker detail into the many problems that older snooker players face. and wow this information is highly valuable
Excellent interview - really refreshing to just see two professionals talking with no dumbing down for the viewer. Fantastic
Great conversation between Steve and Tony, not seen this before!

Yip, Tony certainly loved the sun and the ladies and had a villa in Tenerife throughout the 80's. Some great times had out there I'm sure.

Wow. What a weird comment
Like many women? What are you talking about!? It’s a rhetorical question; no answer needed.
@@johnsrabe He means sportswomen.

Great explanation by Tony of the dreaded Yips. ( from 31:28 )
Sounded a lot like OCD
great conversation. I'd love to see more of these.
Awesome. Blown away my the honesty and detail
Loved watching this. Always was a big fan of Tony/Shakin. I thought he was more Hans Solo than Shaky. Either way he is a legend!
Tony comes a cross as a great bloke and really smart. Top bloke
OMG when TK is talking about endurance and concentration. He's right. HE DOESN'T STOP TALKING. How did he not win more?

Fascinating interview between the Nugget and Tony Knowles.

Fantastic interview.
Brilliant conversation.

This is a great interview, could listen to them talking all day, what do you mean R.I.P. Tony Knowles!?
He is alive and well

Great tune great bloke underrated david essex luv Kim xxxxxxx and snookers Thailand boys are great in snooker too xxxx
That was brilliant. I hardly watch the snooker nowadays.
Two top men good interview but I would have loved too talk to them having a few beers and the camera off it would have been a great night good luck to Tony and Steve x
My mum did. I hate to say, and she wouldn't thank me for it, she was very much a snooker groupie in the 80s.
I met Tony at Skegness Pontins in '92
Will never forget that pink he missed against Thorburn.. Was a pretty straight forward shot... Thorburn won 3 matches by the odd frame in that year
just watched this from long way back Tony talks intelligent about snooker but l am playing snooker of my life at 48..
I remember the Eddie Charlton match, what a come back..
great upload. knowles should of won more
should have*
Tony’s problem? He was too busy sinking the pink and screwing back for the brown.
Knowlsey, hey Knowlsey, ey up, Knowlsey, Knowlsey, Knowlsey....................... Oi, Knowlsey!!!!!!
Steve Davis interviews Steve Irwin.
11 OUT OF 10.!

Only in the 2000s could someone find enough spare time to talk about Tony Knowles' career... lol
When was this filmed? Davis looks about 11. He now looks 111.

A gentleman Tony Knowles
Tony always reminded me of the actor John Duntine, they are lookalikes
Looks like Bryan Ferry to me
John Duttine, yes I can see that resemblance.
steve davis after the personality transplant
KNOWLES RODE EVERYTHING WITH A PULSE

Do you have the one with Terry Griffiths?
I don't but it is available to watch for free on Matchroom Live when you sign up. No costs involved and about a dozen episodes of this series available to watch.
Thanks
Strange how many people havent heard of northern ireland..
Steve Davis was playing bad that day. That's why he won ... I so wished Alex Higgins played a match with Tony but they never met at the snooker table
is tony on medication or half cut here
Davis would have beaten him convincingly had they met in the final, he was too ruthless in the world finals at that time anyway.
Steve achieved more in one month than knowles in his entire career
That depends on what you mean.
Absolutely steve did. Comparing the 2 as players is a non entity.
a great player tony was .but I couldn't help but pmsl when quite often davis looks at him like what the fck are you babbling on about
Yep. i noticed that too.
Table 9 @ Tricky's, only people from Horwich will get that.
Great contrast - a warm human being interviewed by Barry Hearn's robot bumboy.
