    In this video, John will show you how to replace the lower ball joints on our Honda Rancher 420. We’ll also replace the upper ball joints on the Rancher. But first, a note about the parts here: on many machines, the lower and upper ball joints are the same part number. On the Rancher 420, you’ll need two different part numbers.
    Honda Rancher 420 LOWER BALL JOINT (Part# 51355-HP5-601): www.partzilla.com/product/hon...
    Honda Rancher 420 UPPER BALL JOINT (Part# 51375-HP5-601): www.partzilla.com/product/hon...
    With our parts together, we’ll get the wheel and hub removed. The upper ball joint on the Honda Rancher is pressed into the upper arm, and the lower ball joint is pressed into the steering knuckle, so we’ll get those removed. Then, we’ll head to the bench, where John will show you how some simple supplies from a hardware store can be used to help press the old joints out and then help you get the new joints installed.
    Once we’re done, we’ll get everything back together again.
    Check out the Honda TRX420 front steering knuckle diagram for the lower ball joint (#18): www.partzilla.com/catalog/hon...
    See the Honda Rancher 420 front arm diagram for the upper ball joint (#6): www.partzilla.com/catalog/hon...

    Signs of a sincere sales person. "Honda makes a special tool to do this. Will I sell you one? Yes, but are you going to buy a tool you only use once? So I will show you a work around. Honest and down to earth..... Respect.

    For anyone looking for a shopping list: (1)1.25" PVC Conduit Coupler, (1)1.25"x1" PVC Conduit Reducing Bushing, and (2) 1.25" Iron Close Nipples

    • @kallisti23
      @kallisti23 11 месяцев назад

      I found that a shower valve socket worked better than the close iron nipples, I had one laying around but a set of them is $12 at Harbor Freight if you don't. Did this entirely with a sturdy vise and the supplies listed above. Takes a LOT of torque on the vise to break them free when pressing out, but once they move, the rest is easy.

    The video did make it look easy, but I've been fighting this tooth and nail for several months now. From using the vice to the press it's been an uphill battle. I've finally got three out of four ball joints replaced. This shouldn't have been that hard. If there was a tool to help replace the ball joints. I would have loved to see it in action so I could make the decision if I wanted to get it or not. That's just my two cents.

    $292.57 for a ball joint puller?!! Talk about paying for the name "Honda"!
    Amazon has a 3 piece ball joint separator, tie rod ball joint puller removal tool and a Pitman arm puller, ALL 3 PIECES FOR $37.99!
    "STICK IT IN 'EM DEEP AND BREAK IT OFF!"

    Hate to be this guy but if your going to use that adapter for the torque wrench there’s a math formula that you have to use to compensate for the leverage you gain. Some companies even have expect it to be done when using a crow foot.

      I hate to think you torque it, then tighten it further to align the castle nut holes? Just snug and tug. Promise!
