We are on our second Houghton purchased from RePro. (the first one was replaced under warranty) Neither of them cooled our Class B van. They were professionally installed and neither one of them ever stayed on (compressor) for more than ninety seconds. We performed a multitude of tests under varying conditions and the compressor continues to "short cycle" meaning, it does not stay on long enough to cool the interior. In addition, because of the short cycling, there was never a drop of condensation on the outside which means it is not conditioning the interior air. RecPro never acknowledged our problem after the replacement unit was sent out. It does however provide a moderate amount of heat to take the chill off when using it in "heat" mode. But for the cooling issue, they dropped us like a hot potato after numerous inquires. Would not recommend the Houghton at all, and I would never purchase anything from RecPro again!
We really like ours and have purchased other items from RecPro. By what I have been reading, short cycling and high humidity can be a sign of an oversized air conditioner. I have the 13.5k on my 40 footer and it keeps the entire RV cool and no humidity issues. When I asked for advice on what size to install, everybody told me to buy two of the biggest units I could buy. We camp in areas with limited power, so I chose to try a 13.5k to keep my power usage low. I think this is the reason for my success as the AC isn't oversized. At least that is my best guess. I always thought I would add a smaller one in the rear of the RV, but so far we haven't needed too.
Great video, thank you. Favor to ask...does the fan run continuously regardless of the set temp when running? Or, does the fan/blower cycle on and off when the compressor runs?
I was looking at one of these units for my 6x12 cargo trailer. The non duct version so I can install it inside. Will this be enough to cool it down? Permitting insulation is good all around floor and roof
Good video. Had mine for almost a year now. Getting the cover off to clean it looks difficult. It would be great if you could make a video on how to remove cover and clean the unit.
Apparently experiences may vary. I like this one. It's still the only one we have on our RV and in the summer time keeps the rig cool. It's a 40 footer and it does struggle to keep the back cool, but the RV should have two units on it. I will be buying another one of these for the back.
🌵Some youtubers say that the humidity levels inside their RV (truck campers) are uncomfortably high after installing the RecPro which, required the purchase of a stand alone dehumidifier to bring the space back to acceptable levels of humidity... Any comments on the matter ?? I'm a bit hesitant about the humidity issue as that's a definite no no in an RV 🌵
We have not noticed a humidity issue. The way it is designed it certainty shouldn't "increase" the humidity. Mine didn't come with a drain kit, so it drips onto the roof in the same fashion the old unit did. Air conditioners by nature dehumidify. My best guess is people having issues probably oversized their units and the compressor isn't running long enough to dehumidify the air. I will say when I asked a few forums on advice on what size to get, everyone told me to get two of the biggest units I could. We camp at places with limited electricity and I decided to ignore the advice and try a 13.5 and see how well it did. I'm pretty happy with that decision and I'm probably going to buy a 10k for the rear of the coach. Maybe because I'm not oversized I'm not having the same issues. If you do find out why folks are having humidity issues, please reply back!

$1600 eh, not bad, not really comparable but for peeps looking around,, you could get a 24?+ seer minisplit heatpump and inverter for $1600 fyi, albeit a lot more work and bulk.. .the big question is which would have more longevity?...depends on the planned obsolescence engineered...why, "they" aren't allowing the magnetic resonance compressors out. they'd never break....like the first light bulbs
They just run them low. "Farm bulbs" longer lasting even if not eternal. The Dubai LED bulbs run at half, last forever, illegal to buy in West. China overdrives LEDs, burn-out annually, another 5 bux. So proud of m'boys, they learned planned obsolescence from the best! Hey, they even stole the design!
It's amazing what you can find out with a link, huh? :). I stopped putting prices in my videos because they change so quickly. This was just a fast review, I really just wanted to focus on how quiet it is. As far as energy consumption, it depends on what model you buy, this one is 13.5 BTUs. Heating will be about 3 times more efficient than a heat strip, but it is a heat pump so at one point it will get too cold outside for it to work efficiently. You may need to reach out to the manufacturer for more information regarding how it should perform in the cold winter. As far as flow, I can feel the air flow on high sitting about 20 feet away. Hopefully this information helps a bit.
They are fairly easy to install. Really 4 long bolts hold the unit in place. The hardest part for me was getting it onto the roof of the RV. I had maybe two hours in the full install. When I install the one on the rear of the RV I will do a more detailed video.

These units make good boat anchors, they will not cool your Rv, but turn it into a mobile oven.

Do you boondock or only plug in? I M WORRIED ABOUT THE DRAW ON MY BATTERY BANK IF IT'S 120v.
I don't have enough battery storage to support it, so when boondocking we use the generator.

It's still working well! I was wondering how well it was going to do for heat and to my surprise it puts out a lot of heat. It's also stupid quiet!
