When you asked what "looked different" in your last video I totally nailed it with the Speedbooster. Seems kinda crazy that metabones invested in this when the next RF camera will likely have a no-crop mode.
Man oh man I love that vignette look and depth of field wow.
8:31. By far the coolest looking footage out of all your videos is the wide angle full frame speed booster on the beach with the beautiful vignetting. I actually wish you'd film more beautiful scenes like that during your videos, it is so cool looking. With the blurred background it looked like some beautiful dream world.

I got mine on Dec 23, It works well with the Sigma 18-35mm but with some vignetting, some crop lenses without protuberance at the end work, some can be modified to work, ideal to recover the loss because of the 4K-UHD crop, great quality.
But it cant do 60 fps why?
@@freddysolano5835 I guess that reading the whole sensor and then doing a line skipping (or pixel binning) vs. reading only the 4K sensor area and then resampling the image, take a toll on the processor, thus, consuming more battery and heating the camera, but it is only a guess. Canon has a different ideology when it comes to building cameras, they focus first on reliability, over being on the bleeding edge of tech.
The the fish eye effect of the full sensor vignette is actually a really cool look and I agree with your 1x1 framed content. I could also see some interesting creative potential of using the that combination for a dynamic POV perspective for some dramatic shots, the DoF really sells the look.
I’m still a Sony guy but Canon is finally making for an interesting value proposition in the mirrorless videography world. Looking forward to what they have in store for a pro level body.

Doing what you did (using the full-frame) with the speed booster is pretty much simulating what you would get by using a short medium format camera with a sensor of about 50x33mm, crop into 1:1 and you've got a full 33x33 frame, which is pretty cool to be honest :)
Edit: or, if you rather have a full-frame sensor as reference, having the 16-35 f2.8 would get you the same results as an 11.5-25 f2 lens, which is really cool (and ridiculously wide)
I use speedbooster and love it.. It gives much more light to the sensor.
When going full HD with the crazy vignette, it reminds me of the Being John Malkovich movie.

Yey, I get to be clever: You could've fixed the flickering issue in the end by switching from NTSC to PAL. Man I really want that speedbooster. Canon R + Speed booster + Sigma ART + northern lights. Maaaaan!!
the best feature of the eos-r is that amazing autofocus (even now has eye af in video). without the amazing af there are better options out there (for instance the blackmagic pocket 4k with blackmagic xl speed booster for pocket, bringing it to similar/same fov as eos r 4k with speed booster), is a Panasonic s1 with ef adapter and buy some cheap rokinon lenses (also fuji xt3 and gh5 with speed booster). if you already have an eos-r this seems like a good purchase, however I wouldn't buy an eos-r for this adapter alone

DANG, I new there was a crop but seeing it in comparison like that is a little outrageous. speed booster fix seems pretty legit.

Seriously, for every great thing canon does for video, they do 2 things that leave me scratching my head.

@@AsianWithHat Sony is really enticing right now with their autofocus. Where that Sony a7s iii?? When they finally get 10 bit and 4k 60p, then I'll be tempted to jump from the gh5.
I think there’s a heat/processor limitation to the math. Most 4K hybrid cameras ARE cropped. For example, the GH5, Sony A6400, and XT3 are “uncropped” in 4K but they are cropped sensors to begin with. People tend to forget this fact so easily.
A7III DOES have uncropped 4K, but it maxes out at 100mb/s, which is sure to leave you wanting more when you color grade or denoise. The EOS R, although cropped, records at 480 mb/s (5x the detail). Panasonic’s S series seems to be the best 4K but even that is cropped I heard. Not to mention, they are THE BIGGEST in size.
So the main point is: everything requires a sacrifice, whether people want to admit it or not.
@@ChadSchrandt I'm hoping there's an announcement next month about it, being 4k 60p 10 bit internal and 4k 60p 12 bit external.

The FF speedbooster would be awesome on Sony's APS-C E-mount camera - no vignetting or at least not as heave as here.
Wish there was one for the RF lenses. Otherwise, may well just use a wider lens with filter adapter.
Maybe try using some medium format lenses with that fisheye mode. That could be a way to go for the medium format look on the eos r.
Does the camera metering still show up with the added light, or do you have to take that into account if you use the booster?

Focal reducers are the single most amazing thing for cameras. I use one to adapt vintage lenses to my a6300. It's the best feeling in the word having one or two really cheap lens be more like having a whole arsenal of lenses/focal lengths.

Oh 2019, we were so happy and didn't know it.
I might deal with the crop factor, since the EOS R is my B cam, but this is tempting.
I personally wouldn't splash out on it if it's b cam. For the cost of a metabones I'd just get something like a lens or two, or audio equipment, something that will increase quality far more than a loss of a bit of sharpness.

Have you tried that hack for flicker where you duplicate your footage and layer it on top of each, then offset one track by a frame?
If you have an 18-55 use it in your full frame... it's about the same result at 24mm... :D

What about photography? Last year I had the M50 with a speedbooster and it would take my aperture from say F 2.8 down to F1.2 now I'm using the Canon EOS R for my photography. Would this make all my EF lenses go into beast mode?

Have you tried EF-S lenses on the speedbooster? I heard you could hack off the base of the 18-55 for example to give a lightweight and silent 24-70 f2.8-4!

I just use an EF-S lens. I don't get the boost, but I do get the wide angle with 4K. I had an old 10-22 EF-S lens. It works pretty well.
You get more light. I have EF-S 10-18mm F4.5-5.6 and EF 16-35mm F4L. The latter with Metabones speedbooster gives me up to two stops of more light for cropped modes, 4K or stills. The pictures look better too because of both more light and the fact that EF 16-35mm F4L is a much better lens than the EF-S lens. Of course, the downside is you have to pay more for this better result.
Furthermore, I can even use this booster with the EF-S 10-18mm from 12mm and up, getting an even wider angle of 8.5mm to 12.8mm with one stop more light!
The last comment about EF-S 10-18mm is based on a post on DPReview (www.dpreview.com/news/8333895059/metabones-new-ef-rf-speed-booster-reduces-canon-eos-r-4k-crop-factor). I just checked it with my own lens and speedbooster and found out they do not fit. It looks like it will fit if you remove some of the extra plastic on the lens. Mine is very new, so I suppose the earlier version that poster has didn't have this extra plastic? Anyway, too bad RUclips does not give me an option to delete the last comment (or I just couldn't find it).
Can you test it with a f/1.2 lens? The viltrox speedbooster doesn't work at 1.2 on EOS M bodies
I notice the EOS RP is kinda shaky/warpy vs my 90D without stabilization on both. Would the EOS R help the quality, or should I just keep the RP and get a Ronin SC? I do plan to color grade to get some of that dynamic range, but I know there's luts and I'm new at all this video stuff.
What would happen if you put on 2 or more speedboosters? Would the image be even brighter?
Were you using a Variable ND? Looks like there's some weird colour/brightness variations across the frame in some shots.
Or get a Nikon Z6 - option for crop mode, full frame mode better 4k either way and now options to have canon ef lenses
So the EOSR uses the inner portion of the sensor for 4K use. I imagine the speed booster just changes the focal length of the lens and still only uses the inner portion of the sensor. Am I right?
Yes. The speed booster is just a focal reducer designed for cameras.
It basically just takes the image circle that camera lenses produce and reduces the size so the sensor captures a wider FOV.
