id take good speakers over water resistance anyday. i use my speakers everyday yet i dont drop my phone in water everyday. i have an s7, terrible speakers and i cant remember the last time i really needed water resistance anyways

Maybe you can have both. There are now hydrophobic mesh speaker grills that allow air and sound to pass through, but not water. Apple actually uses them in their iPhone 7, 8, and 10. Which is why the iPhone is known for having such great sounding speakers. I don't agree with a lot of what Apple does, but I have to give it to them, their devices are amazing.

My phones have never been damaged by water but knowing my phone is water resistant is important to me, it doesnt mean the world but if im dropping real bread I want water resistance.
I'm in the same boat as you. Never had a phone get water damaged but I definitely expect it in today's age. (Unless there's a good reason)

This phone seems to be an awesome deal! It's powerful, has a nice design (although those bezels, which are understandable because of the speakers), delivers a great media and gaming consumption experience with this 120Hz display...
The lack of a headphone jack and water resistance really doesn't bother me. There are really great Bluetooth headphones on the market and Razer ships a dongle on the box. And even if it had IP67/68 I would keep it away from water hahaha
I would like to try this phone for a while (or even make of this my daily phone), but it's unlikely for Razer to release this model in Brazil... and I'm satisfied with my Note 8 hahaha

I’d have good speakers over water resistance anyway, because remember, it’s water *resistant* . No phone is fully “waterproof”, and I still won’t bring my phone, even if it’s IP68, anywhere near water.

No waterproofing is a huge deal, I don't want to have to worry about the drips from rain, which is all we ever get in the UK.
James Anderson It likely has at least an IP 54 level of very minimal water resistance. Which means that either naked or esp with a basic case and screen protector, a few drops of rain or light splashes won't hurt it.
If you're talking about a torrential downpour or dropping it in a puddle, then yeah -- you need a LifeProof or OtterBox Armor case, LOL

The $699 price really surprised me. The OP5 has these specs for $150 less, but it also comes with a smaller battery and "worse" display.

I think that we will probably have 2TB Micro SDs within maybe 10 years. But by then, it's possible that smartphones might actually come standard with 1-2TB internal storage.
The waterproof thing is not much of an issue as long as it lives up to its other experctations

Don’t really mind about the headphone jack I’ve been using my iphone 7 plus no problem for over a year now. Water resistance is not a huge deal but it would be a nice feature to have. Those speakers look nice though the speakers on my iphone aren’t all that great..

Perfect for gaming and media, somebody eventually realised great speakers, great screen, proper battery and the correct aspect ratio are something a lot of people really want.

Not sure what you're using for this video but the color and quality of the video is on point. I won't comment on the phone until after you put boots on the ground with it. But thanks for this one. Video looks great and probably the best I've seen.

Though a headphone jack is a compromise, Razer made a great work around. Some complain about not being able to charge at the same time of use, but don't forget they cover that compromise with a 4000mAH battery with the power efficient Snapdragon 835 processor, and the IGZO display with ultra-low power consumption. Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0+ doesn't hurt either.

I for one, have no problem with the swap. Stereo speakers is a big must for me over water resistance. The features in this phone is what I as a user of the moto X pure, that I begged moto to put into a pure next-gen.

People really need to do a blind test to see if they can actually tell the difference between 60fps and 120fps

I think that it makes sense to not have waterproofing. Because it will help the speaker quality. And that is more specific to what the phone to trying to do.

The missing headphone jack is very unfortunate, considering that you aren't getting a near-bezel-less display for the cost of it. Also, speakers aren't a big deal for me because I use headphones pr earbuds a lot and water resistance is much more practical. However, this phone shows a lot of promise.

The missing head phone jack is a bummer but as for everything else that matters little to me and I've always been careful about my cells and water so that is a non issue as well. Considering the price and what this device has to offer its going to be interesting. Can't wait for your full review

I love everything about this mobile but to answer your question. I ride a motorcycle and use my mobile as GPS on long adv rides quite often. That also means riding in the rain. So waterproofing along with great camera is my top 2 requirements. If they can add waterproofing and have a camera that matches or exceed the top mobiles, I would def buy this. What I love most of all is close to stock Android, Nova Launcher, SDCard, Love the big battery. Love the heaps of ram. Love that they gave a good audio dongle, even though I cant charge mobile at the same time. Love the screen, even though its not OLED. Love the design in general. Well done Razor

I'd like to see an IP Rating as a multi media device I'm using my phone at the restaurant, gym, in the car, outside all of which water is present but front facing speakers are amazing so glad they are there but wouldn't be opposed to having little less quality and ip66 at least

As for missing built in audio jack I'll totally put up with adapter because it still includes a better DAC. Wireless charging in convenient but not something that is a deal breaker for me. Due to my high audio and video consumption I would totally trade the waterproof for beast speakers.

MAFlAz777, I used mid range phones since they have a bigger battery and the processors are more energy efficient plus they have similar features that the flagship phones have or used to have, quick charge 3.0 and headphone jack.

I had a Nextbit Robin, my favorite phone. I don't have it today, only have a Moto, why? A drop of water got in the front facing speaker (light rain). No doubt this is probably a beast but 700 and no waterproofing is a deal breaker when paired with no headphone jack. I have a feeling this phone is gonna be a beast, but when light rain can kill your phone because of the big speaker holes. It ain't worth it homie

I respect your way of thinking but I'm gonna have to disagree with you.
In my opinion:
If anything, mobile gaming is responsible for hurting, and slowing the growth of the gaming industry, and I can provide you with two facts.
1. It's made micro transactions much more popular(micro transactions were probably there before mobile gaming became popular, but it was rarely seen in any PC/Console games. After seeing how successful games like clash of clans became, many developers/publishers implanted micro transactions into their games)
2. Many PC/console game developers have moved to(or partly moved to) developing games for mobile phones, in order to make more money without as much effort. (I don't blame them)
P.S. I used to game on mobile for quite a long time, but all of my favorite game series either became a micro-transactional(lol is that even a word?) mess, or they just stopped making them in order to focus on their "money making" games, but that was a LONG time ago.
VERDICT: In my opinion mobile gamers are gamers obviously, since they play "games", but the ones who purchase micro transactions are really hurting the gaming industry by encouraging more developers to make such games.(Sorry for the long reply and if there is any grammar errors please forgive me :) )

The phone looks great, yeah looks alike a really upgraded version of robin. I think that stock android is something makes this phone really exciting. No unnecessary bloatware or over the top gaming themed skins or anything like that which would make this phone one of few phones that have stock android. Gonna be a solid performer.

What Razer should do is release a version of this phone running full Windows 10. That way all of your steam games are playable on a phone. I know it would be more complicated than that, but if that happened I would honestly take that phone in a heartbeat
Weather proofing sacrificed for big quality speakers not a big deal for me especially for what this phone is aiming for. 120hz and good resolution, color and contrast with Dolby audio from speakers that deliver depth, this is a man's phone, it's like a portable on the go mini mancave.
Notification indicator, battery charging time , and stand by of the battery , camera, storage and last but not least don't forget to tell the experience after using it

Water proofing is a must for any phone nowadays. It is just silly to spend so much money on a daily device that dies on you if you drop it into a puddle or taken out by rain.

Headphone jack, wireless charging, and IPxx ratings are not deal breakers for me. Battery life, software and cameras are what is important to me in a phone...oh yeah, and of course core functionality like clear phone calls (HD Voice, VoLTE) and fast WiFi and radio bands.
Razor phone + ps vita = ultimate mobile gaming device. Seriously, I want a product like a DS from Razer to take the next step in portable gaming.
Love this attention to detail on making the display and hardware so top-notch. Been an iPhone user since 2013 and this phone is making me consider switching.
But I think the lack of even water resistance might be the deal breaker for me. Unless there’s great water proof cases for this phone but this isn’t the kind of phone I would want to keep in a case anyway.
None of my phones have had water resistance ratings, so that doesn't really bother me. I more prioritize good sound and a good listening experience. So, even though it doesn't have a headphone jack, I do still want this phone.
The lack of a IP eating is a deal breaker; I love watching youtube videos during a shower and being able to not have anxiety around a pool is something I'm not giving up.
For me me those things aren’t a deal breaker honestly, and yeah the headphone jack is a bummer but at least the adapter has a nice dac built in unlike other manufacturers. Maybe one of my least favorite features will be the design, but imo I’m willing to sacrifice some “beauty” for those impressive front facing speakers (which reminded me of the ones in the axon 7) and that incredible and oddly satisfying 120hz 2k display. And what’s awesome is that we get alll these killer specs and awesome features in a very reasonable price for a 2017 flagship.
In conclusion, for this being the first ever take on a smartphone from razor they nailed it imo. And i can see many nitpicking on the missing features (which is normal) without considering the price and targeted audience. And as I said this phone wasn’t made for a beauty contest, but for gamers and specs fans.
The real issue for me will be the quality of the camera. Water resistance is not an issue. I pair my phone to an Echo Dot in my car and I still use a 160 Gig iPod for music away from home so I can live without a headphone though i wish it was there.
Am I wrong in thinking that its aluminum case prevents them from adding wireless charging? I'd happily sacrifice that small convenience for a much more durable phone. (and I prefer metal looks over glass anyway)

All of the negatives are so 100% worth the trade-offs! If it had the cameras of the HTC U11 or at least the rear cameras of the LG V30, it would be my so-close-to-perfect device. High quality audio recording might still sway me to purchase - looking forward to your Real-day-in-the-Life Video to see audio recording quality!

I love the fact that it has Dolby Atmos Speakers. I Would care less about water proofing vs having better specs. I have had water proof phone for about 4 years now and not once have they touched water.
