- With these 5 easy steps anyone can wood turn green end grain branches and logs by centering the pith. This minimizes the chances of having cracks form around the pith while it dries. I am using a 6 inch diameter piece of spalted maple to make this vase.

Very interesting and useful video, like
Great camera work on hollowing it out! Fascinating.
Many thanks!
Have you ever tried this with black walnut? I know that black walnut likes to crack when it dries out so is this a trait that does not allow you to turn green walnut?
Very nice vase. Well done.
Thank you! Cheers!
Huh! sander on a stick! cool! The wood itself turns the sander!
Its an inertia sander there are some commercially made ones or you can make your own with a 1/4 inch bronze bushing, a small round magnet and a 1/4 inch sanding mandrel.
Thank you for this lesson. As I listen do typically leave the wood in the chuck while drying?
Again thank you.
David
Thanks for watching. I take it out of the chuck to dry. Because I centered it on the pith the growth rings are pretty even around and it does not warp.
I know how the camera hollowing system works but I’ve never seen the superimposed image of the tool. How did you do that? Make a stick on image?
Thanks for watching I made a video awhile back on how i do it.

that piece of wood was obviously dead for quite a time. It might be wet, but I would not call it green. All th intracellular water should have been gone for a while.
