- Guardians of the Galaxy 4 is probably coming to the MCU. But what can we expect from Marvel? Will the movie have the same team we met in the movie? Apart from Rocket, Groot, Adam Warlock, Phylla, Cosmo, and Kraglin--we think Nova, Silver Surfer, and Agent Venom could join the team too!

Ok we have a brand new Guardians of the Galaxy after vol 3, and we’re going to explain this new cosmic team.
Rocket Racoon is the leader - and captain - of these new guardians.
Other than Rocket and Groot, there are 5 new members in this team.
So let’s do a full breakdown of every new guardian, and what will be their future after vol 3.
Also, I’m going to tell you about some other cosmic heroes that might join the Guardians of the Galaxy in the future, some of them are already in the MCU and others will be major cosmic heroes in the future.
Alright, before we breakdown the new members, let’s first go over the original members.
Starting with Rocket Racoon. He’s the new leader of the guardians of the galaxy. Or I shall we call him the captain?
I won’t go into the whole near-death experience Rocket had in vol 3, because we already did a full breakdown of this scene in our ending explained video.
But was it heaven? Divine intervention? A simulation? Or did it all happen in his head?
Doesn’t matter.
What’s important is how this experience changed Rocket. He accepted who he really is. He confronted his maker/tormentor, and he’s free to forge a new path for himself. And this new path is leading the guardians of the galaxy.
And in case you doubt his leadership skills for…[confused pause] some reason.
Let me remind you that Rocket has been a guardian longer than anyone else.
The entire team was wiped out in Infinity War. Four of them got dusted and Gamora was thrown off a magic cliff.
Only Rocket survived.
Doug: but what about Nebula?
True, Nebula survived as well.
But at the time, she wasn’t an official guardian. Nebula only became a full member post-snap.
So Rocket has the most seniority among the guardians.
In addition, Rocket and Nebula held down the fort during those 5 years of the snap. A very difficult time in the galaxy.
And they also formed an alliance with the heroes on Earth.
Also, Rocket proved that he’s the real captain when giving Thor some really good pep talks in Infinity War and Endgame.
It’s not Rocket’s fault that the older Thor gets, the dumber and more fragile baby he becomes.
So Rocket has the experience and the ability to lead the new guardians.
And he’s also an adoptive father to Groot.
Doug: Why’s that?
Well in case you didn’t know the Groot who sacrificed himself in vol 1, died for real.
Baby Groot is his offering. And since Rocket took care of him since he was just a twig, that makes him his dad.
And Groot grew up to be a very big boy. He went from being Swoole Groot to Colossal Groot.
Doug: so how did he get so big?
Well, I actually have a cool theory about that.
We don’t know much about the origins of older Groot. But in the comics, Groot grew up on Planet X, that’s the home planet of his species.
That means that his size was restricted by the gravity of his world. Baby Groot on the other hand grew up on a ship. So without the strong forces of gravity, Groot’s body can grow much bigger than his father’s.
Well, it’s either that or I guess it’s an alien tree and that’s all the explanation you need.
Also Groot can fly now.
Doug: and he’s also Spider-Groot
That’s right. And he regrows his body really fast after losing most of it in the fight with Adam.
And that could also explain why he’s so massive now that I’m not sure if he can even fit the guardians’ ship at this point, he’s even bigger than the freaking Hulk. He’s like the Ents from The Two Towers.
Actually, Groot sort of looks like King Groot now.
Doug: wait Groot is a king?
Well you see, in the comics there was an evil version of Groot, decades before the more lovable Groot was introduced.
Back in Tales to Astonish #13, that’s the ancient times of the 60s, Groot looked like this. That’s King Groot, an evil alternate version of our favorite tree guy.
Another version of King Groot also appears in the fighting game Contest of Champions.
This one became a galactic warlord who experiments on humans.

I think what they did with Guardians 3 was brilliant. To have all these characters dormant in the MCU just waiting to be used at the perfect moments is incredible.

Yes but Dave Bautista isn't coming back as drax and the girl that plays Gamora isn't returning either so we will likely never see them again

I like the theory that exposure to 'the light' of two half celestials, infinity stones, Ego and other cosmic powers had him grow more impressive.
I prefer the idea that Groot adapts to his lifestyle. The first groot was peaceful, so he didn't grow so big, while new groot was raised by fighters.
Both are dope theories
Dont forget having indirect exposure to a dying star’s light to create Thor’s Stormbreaker.

Rocket definitely had a near death experience. Afterlife in the MCU has proven to be a cerebral experience that Taweret (Moon Knight) described as varying from person to person and beliefs.
I've survived 2 NDEs & whether one believes they are real or a construct of our minds under great duress, you are greatly changed by the experience.

and even if that was the case in their description, that doesnt mean there cant be alternatives that have different origins.
As a Dutchman, it's really funny to hear you discuss how big Groot has become, when his name actually means "Big" in Dutch.

Agent Venom ane Beta Ray Bill would be awesome additions. I can't see them using Silver Surfer as a member but definitely could see him being introduced through GotG.
Silver surfer wouldn't be a member, most likely an ally who makes appearances for anything that involves cosmic entities like in the comics

@Pr0d1g7 yea that's adam warlock, surfer is entirely different. you can't just change the way he's written and assign him to a team, that's literally not even ss at that point
Bill would have to be retconned so he's alive. His skeleton was in the guardians of the galaxy 1 in the beginning of the movie on Morag.

I would have loved if they added a montage of rocket and how he got to where he was in the first movie like when he was taking off after attacking the high evolutionary I think it would have been cool to see a summarized story of rockets origin story in full instead of just his childhood

He said “I am Groot” all the time, but the last “I am Groot” we as the viewer understand, like Gamora starting to understand him at the end of the movie as well.
That was confirmed by director James Gunn.
So the question is, whether we continue to understand him or not. 🤔
The way they marched into that hallway to the beastie boys and the ending scene with Florence and the Machine are two of my favorite scenes in recent film memory
I think using the Symbiotes (or Klyntar as spacefarers call them) in Guardians 4 would be a great story. What if Adam gets infected, and it changes his personality, drives him against the guardians, and takes the name "Magus"? Adam would be the perfect host, and he could become a rebellious teenager, rather than a child.
Coupling that idea with Screencrush's about Vol. 4 being about Groot now that he's an adult, and you've got a real good narrative parralell there

Imho before people could really appreciate the Magus they need to spend some time with Warlock. He didn't get much attention in gotg3 so this storyline is excellent but maybe for gotg5?

I think the exposure to the power stone on the twig that formed this Groot is what led to his size increase. We only saw Rocket pick up a remaining twig but maybe this was the only twig after the exposure to have life left, like a cosmic natural selection to allow the most powerful Groot to grow.
Venom and Drax on the same team would be interesting. They both like killing and probably agree with each other like when Drax says something like let's kill all of them, a few, 1. The others will disagree but Venom and Drax will be all for it and kinda feed off each other

I really hope they go with Phylla's Kree background. Nova is a MUST. I would also add Moondragon & perhaps Jack Flagg and/or Vance Astro. Perfect Guardians Team!

Ryan really needs to have cameos in the Phase 5 and 6 movies and shows. Maybe reference the video store in Captain Marvel, but have Ryan working in it... in every movie. Just a quick scene, like they did with Stan Lee.
Or he can pop in to explain something like Margot Robbie in The Big Short 😅
They've easily laid the groundwork to do Vance Astro/Astrovik. That would be fantastic!
Head canon: the Infinity Stones have been influencing the Universe to create wielders for themselves. Wanda and Pietro were the intended wielders of the Reality and Time gems respectively, the Vision was always the intended wielder of the Mind gem. Captain Marvel is the intended wielder of the Space gem. Hulk is the intended wielder of the Power gem ("it's like I was made for this") Warlock was made for the Soul gem.

@@artemislogic5252 Yeah, which is why I felt the need to justify his inclusion on the list a bit more by including the "I was made for this" quote. If there's a better candidate I'm happy to entertain it and alter my head canon accordingly.

@@artemislogic5252 I guess the trouble I have with that is two-fold. One, it seems to me that the plots of celestials would be harder for the stones to co-opt for their own purposes just because the celestials are themselves cosmic godlike entities. Two the powers Quill displays while not under the effects of the power stone aren't thematically what one would expect from someone created with synergy with the power stone in mind: both he and Ego have more matter-manipulation abilities that are more in line with what the Reality stone can do.
@@pallen2645 even though the power stone never created him you could say it chose him as their paths are closely tied together since he found it and was the first to wield it without dying
it never created hulk either, and you could say hulk's ability to wield the stones was just because of his resistence to gamma radiation which isnt specific to any one stone
you could also argue the stones never created wanda either and that was just her innate Scarlet Witch power which predates her presence to the stone and is the reason the bombs never killed her as a kid
i just think peter would be a better fit since he'd have the ability to wield it and it's been tied to closely to him
Item you missed in the movie.. Adam didn’t heal from being run through by nebula .. when he went to the high evolutionary he had a med pack around his middle.
With Groot, they could bring out his origin story. How he was on the planet-X, how he met a human there, how they escaped etc.
Adam in the books also was the leader and founder of the infinity watch, a group which inherited the infinity "gems" stones. The group also included gamora, drax the destroyer, moondragon, pip the troll, and secretly included thanos who secretly became protector of the reality stone.
I love the idea of Cosmic Ghost Rider joining the MCU but I think if it's an alternate Frank Castle, they should bring back Thomas Jane for that role.

What about Stakar or his Ravager all-star team? In the original comics, they were the members of the Guardians. Except for Krugar (the "thumbs up" alien), who was the Sorcerer Supreme in the year 3000.
Hell... Martinex had a small part as one of Gamora's crew, who worked with the Guardians, in volume 3.

Hi Ryan, just a quick question, do you think GoTG still know Peter parker as Spiderman? I watched GoTG3 last weekend and I am re-watching Spiderman: no way home. I realised when dr.Strange is casting his spell, the Runes of Kof-kol, he said "the entire WORLD's about to forget that Peter Parker is Spiderman" he didn't say WORLDS or reality, does this mean GoTG still knows Peter Parker as Spiderman?
did they know who he was before though? i'm not sure they would have done. maybe thor might have known though - as stark talked about everyone saying he was wrong to get a kid on the team. also i think maybe there could be communications from stark to happy that he'd find again

Groot's growth is measured by the strength of the people around him. Like a hive growings system his people had. Some tribes were larger than others because of this.
This simply means that this team is basically 8x stronger than the OGs.
Edit: Also Ghost rider is the most powerful character in the MCU......confirmed by Stan Lee. Can you imagine the size of Groot then?😮
I think a Guardians Vol. 4 will be very unlikely, cause the Guardians were planned as a Trilogie since the first movie and it was James Gunns last Marvel Projekt (he changed to the dark side, DC). So I guess it’s over now. 😢 But of course they will appear in bigger movies later, hopefully

I would've love if Bug was in the new team. it also would be a cool idea if he was one of High Evolutionary's experiments too and it would also make him one of the survivers when counter earth was exploded
I was hoping that Bug would show up in Quantumania as he is from the microverse. I was hoping that was who William Jackson Harper was playing and that they would set it up so he could join the Guardians.
It won’t happen sadly bug was supposed to be apart of the roster in guardians one but James could not use him and he then tried using him in each guardian project since but each time he couldn’t because marvel technically doesn’t own the rights to live action bug so James can’t use him and yes they could spend a million dollars or more to buy the rights but I don’t see them doing that for a character hardly anyone knows or cares about but I would have loved to have seen him in live action and wish there was some concept art or early versions of the scripts out there so we can know what he would have looked like and what role he would have played oh what could have been
Another thing they could do.... In the comics this GotG had to deal with the alternate universe GotG (Starhawk, Major Victory). If they decide to go the route of introducing Sam Alexander first, having this GotG train him and then return him to Earth.. he could help with the formation of either The New Warriors or The Champions. Then in another zaney adventure of the GotG they have to deal with a rift opening up to the Cancerverse whereby on top evil versions of characters we know and love we also see an alternate universe GotG make their way into our world escaping the Cancerverse that they were stuck in.
Amongst that alternate GotG could be characters we haven't seen yet like Bug, Moondragon, Nova (Richard Rider) and maybe even characters we have like an alternate version of Drax and/or Gamora played by different actors. That would be one way to evolve the team with more new characters before the chapter of the Multiverse Saga comes to a close.
The “Teddy bear doll” of the high evo in the pram/stroller on counter earth still creeps me out.

Also, One of my favorite comic issues was when Venom starts getting space crazy and starts taking over the other Guardians one by one and basically created a horror story on their ship.
If Beta Ray Bill & Gladiator join it would be super epic! The story lines of those two are infinite. Especially a World War Hulk versus Gladiator (such as in 1997 Sins of the Father) ONLY cavaet would be finding the right director & writer.

I'd much prefer the MCU to do a proper Venom to show Sony how to do it properly. They've been teasing Knull for a long time with the Necrosword and Gorr and whatnot, so I imagine eventually we'll see cosmic symbiotes, but I kind of want to see the Venom story done right for ONCE. They butchered it in Spider-Man 3, and they missed the mark big time on these Venom movies as well. I wanna see some respect for my all time favourite Marvel villain before we start doing spin-off versions.

I’d rather see the younger Nova w/ the black helmet join the GOTG and have Richard Ryder as a stand-alone character. I always thought it was a missed opportunity to not introduce him earlier on in the MCU Mythos
Sean Gunn is also voicing G.I. Robot in Creature Commandos and presumably in live action at some point too whatever form that takes as either another fully CGI creation or using makeup. He's going to be busy.

Hi Ryan. I always that that Nova was a stowaway technician aboard the Fantastic Four ship that got hit with the superpowers radiation. Is there a difference in Nova from NovaCORPS and Kid Nova from The New Warriors? Keep up the great work. 👍

Jack flag is a very possible character to join the new team and a character I feel should have been mentioned here jack flag is also from earth and was a member of the guardians in the comics we know that quill is currently on earth after the events of vol three so maybe he meets jack flag becomes friends then he joins the guardians of the galaxy
It is a bit funny how you used Sams footage while mentioning Richard and Sam is a footnote
I'm sure that the High Evolutionary would have sought to examine all lifeforms throughout his many years of existence of which could be the Kree. Per the comics the Kree were always stuck (by their own assessment) from evolving like so many other species has... I assuming particularly as it relates to powers. It could be that the Kree commissioned the High Evolutionary to study their DNA and ascertain a way to jumpstart their evolutionary ladder.
And it might be conceivable that they would use the DNA of Mar-Vell aka Wendy Lawson from the Captain Marvel film. Although we only know her as she exists to mentor Carol in the 90s the Kree would likely have her genetics on file as they all connect to the AI, The Supreme Intelligence.
We know she died at the hands of Yon-Rogg who abducted Carol and kept her in an amnesiac state regarding her origins, brainwashing her to believe she was Kree so that they might use her as a weapon one day.
But given that Carol derives her powers from Mar-Vell's use of the Tesseract to create a unique engine that she planned to gift to the Skrulls, it is conceivable that the Kree might think there is a unique path to great intelligence locked within her DNA and they may be the only ones that could (at this point given the High Evolutionary's ship is destroyed) ID Phyla-Vell's unique DNA link to Mar-Vell.
It would also be interesting to see if within his captives was a Dragon like figure who escaped but has remained hidden in the shadows of Knowhere. This figure could be The Dragon of the Moon who could at this point be bonded to the being known as Moondragon (whose humanoid form is trapped within) who they may or may not set up to be Drax's daughter (as she was in the comics).
And given that Mantis has left it would also be cool if among the Ani-Men there were also Insect-Men, aka Bug who was a founding member of the GotG in the comics as well.

i would be so hyped up if they do agent venom i loved tht entire storyline where he cleanses the symbiote and they bond fully and becomes a full fledged hero. i wished ironman was able to get one adventure with the guardians to get tht sweet armor top five armor for me.
Rocket encountering Lylla, Teefs and Floor was Heaven. A lot of spiritual references from J. Gunn. I know atheists don't want to hear Heaven, but there it is. " There are the hands that made us, and then there are the hands that guide their hands."

groots kind rely on the energy surrounding them, so he grew smarter stronger because of all the powerful beings surrounding him. for example quill was half celestial thats how groot absorbed so much strength, now they have adam warlock

Joe Keery is my favorite fan cast for anything!!! And Nova is one of my all time favorite comic characters juat in general so seeing one of my favorite actors play one of my favorite characters would be amazing

I'm no comic book expert but I did hear from another source that groots kind will absorb the energy of the people that are around them hence starlord and mantis two celestials and Thor being god had tons of energy to spare so grout grew large thanks to spending much time with them

I think Guardians of the Galaxy 4 will not exist as a part of the main GotG series we know for. GotG starts with Peter Quill and ends with Peter Quill. It also starts with James Gunn and ends with James Gunn

Did Nebula survive because she is now mostly part machine? Does the snap affect machines or only all living creatures (like Thanos said)? Is Nebula living or more machine now since Thanos made her that way? If mostly machine, then the snap wouldn’t affect her since she is technically not a “living” creature? 🤔
