Linus: takes out random HDD without any concern whatsoever
some dude saving his project: wait, where did it go?
I'm not sure if it's in operation yet as he is "the first one" to unbox it
RAID
The moment that happened I came straight to the comments and was not disappointed
That's what I was thinking too lol
every server is backed up
190 terabytes of RAM
Chrome : *it's free real estate*
Damn meeen!!! That RAM Figures. my computer is 4GB and the fan sounds like a vaccum machine....
My server only have 144GB of RAM🤨

Corsair RAM is your friend =)

Thats why i use Firefox!

I watched this video shortly after it came out, and now I'm working on Cedar daily as a research assistant to a molecular ecologist.
Can you believe that? I hardly can! Woo-hoo! Glad I left Best Buy for university!
Nice.
Howsit for gaming though
Play 32k minecraft with virtual reality sync ray tracing minecraft.
Please.
Can you tell me if it can run shaders in the nether
can it run Srysis on max setings?

Exactly what I was thinking. I wouldn't let Linus within 5 miles of that.
OH, CANADA!
i would
I find the lack of RGB disturbing
It's treason then.
Yep that's weird like $22 Million and no RGB Lighting lol
IKR like do these guys even know how to build a computer?
red would probably be bad, but I see quite alot of green and blue leds there.. you must have something wrong with your eyes
Arief Dharmawan Abadi SO TRUE
2017: unboxing Canada's biggest supercomputer
2020: crowdsourcing the World's biggest supercomputer
Check out Frontier and El Capitan. They will exceed the exaflops capacity mark, and together will reach almost similar levels to the distributed volunteer networks.(BOINC and Folding@home) This puny Canada's best machine doesn't compare anymore at all.
@@illuminate4622 That is an incredibly stupid thing to say, I dont know about these distributed computing projects in particular, but you cant move memory around fast between distributed computers, which is one of the main benefits of having these kinds of highly networked devices.
Every time Linus takes something out of a case, I keep expecting alarms to ring and security show up and say "Sir, you just crashed the entire data center".
Pros:
-Kinda powerful
-Pretty fast
-Can probably run Minesweeper
-Almost enough storage for all your 4K porn
-Will probably have a Cinebench score higher than 650
-Very power efficient
Cons:
-A little pricy
-A little noisy
-Kinda big chassis footprint
-Above average power draw
Zavier syed "Kinda big chassis footprint" lmao!
so wait, it can't fit on my desk? :(
Thunder Draws Well that of course depends on your desk. It it's top has a surface area of at least 9,000 sq. ft, then you should be good 👍
Zavier syed .....
cons:
-no rgb
Mikkel H oh fuck, that too, that could be a deal breaker
*Linus goes to Canada's biggest datacenter*
*Slides open a storage drawer and just pops out a hard drive*
David Slagh lol - and breaks disk array - or config-
Thought I alone was worried
it's okkkkkk, it's hot swappable (use google ;P)
It's a server system, so everything will have redundancy and parity, so in the same way that a failing drive is unexpected and coped with, a drive being removed would be too. I imagine there's some note in a log somewhere that says that drive disappeared though.
Plus... the datacenter was not yet operational at the time of filming.
5:40
Random scientist: why did my website die?
Luckily they used raid 0 for Linus to fool around
@@thenewnew1997 Try pulling a drive from a RAID 0... you'll destroy the array.
@@anatolydyatlov963 I don't get it
@@yngfljm2277 RAID 0 is a disk array where your data is split evenly across all the drives. It provides absolutely no redundancy and if one drive fails, you lose everything. Even if you have ten 1TB drives in a RAID0 array (which creates 10TB of fast-access storage), pulling out one of them will result in losing *everything* . I'm sure the author of the previous comment meant RAID1 (mirroring). Though I wouldn't recommend that either. You can enjoy the benefits of both mirroring and stripping with higher raid levels. Nowadays we use mainly RAID5/6/10
@@anatolydyatlov963 huh, I've never seen or heard of RAID 6 before but I have very little experience and knowledge in this as I'm just starting out. Thanks for the info too!
super Computer: I have a lot of RAM - 190 TB of RAM
Google Chrome: Hold my Beer 🍺
overused joke
wtf Linus no benchmarks? how will i know if this is the system for me
matt a srsly? A server?
I think you missed the point.
We need to know, can it run crysis?
i think it can run crysis on medium
can i play ARK Survival on that ? or Planet Coaster ?
It can't be that good, where's the tempered glass and RGB lighting?
Its inferior to gaming machines, no RGB, no watercooling
yep and just listen to how loud it is, they must be using budget case fans.
I've been in there and it's not that loud, definitely not worth wearing ear protection. The old Bugaboo cluster is next to it and is much noisier, set to be decommissioned in the fall last I heard.
I bet it doesnt even get 1 FPS in minecraft
It does not have to be loud te get damage in hearing. Duration is something most people do not take into account. Even 80decibel can damage you're ears when exposed for an hour or something.
Was expecting Linus to find a way to drop an entire supercomputer
domino
Considering how often he drops or breaks things, I'm still surprised Linus gets invited to places like this 😄😲
As an engineer who works on a majority of the equipment displayed, it gives me no end of pride to see you geek out to it. Thank you.
fatalflaw oh wow, congrats on finishing the project man.
For once you can't drop this.
Bet
Linus: *Challenge accepted*
You underestimate his determination.
Where there's a Linus, there's a way.
don't give him any ideas
Is Linus a computer engineer or something?
He seems extremely knowledgeable for someone "just doing it for entertainment".
You pick stuff up interacting with knowledgeable people, and he does that all the time
He used to work in some job which related to computer parts prior to his new occupation
He used 200 terabytes of ram trying to ask chrome but there were more than 4 tabs open so we all know how that went
He worked at NCIX as a product manager, not really relevant to the data centre world but alright. He's really passionate about server stuff thats where all the cool cutting edge stuff happens. (Which then trickles down into the consumer world) but also he does his research and probs had contacts gave him all the info for this video too
@@daniwalmsley611 NCIX? Didn't that company have a "data breach" and go bankrupt?
*reads specs*
-Crysis: *sweating* ...C-can it?...
Now all Linus has to do is steal it
8,000,000 players 1 cpu coming soon
Mike Hunt and 27 000 cpus too lol
+Or What? 8 players 1 cpu had two cpu cores so we might as well say 1 cpu again
"Street Price" 😂😂😂😂😂😂 That sounds so wrong!!!
Finally a server which could house a fully loaded minecraft server world.
I like to think that Linus actually broke in to film this video. Some guy going through security footage and finding some random guy and a cameraman rifling through $22 million worth of equipment and watching in horror as he removes the drive.
lol

They probably had it on backup anyways, I mean they have 40 gigabit internet as backup lol.

You had way too much fun on this trip. Keep going!
I have to say the cable management is much better than Linus' server cabinet.
Everything is better.
Everything is awesome!!
Pulls out a rack, sets back cancer research 10 years.
Noob Destroyer yeah, I was joking. I assumed there was some kind of redundancy and that whatever racks and/or drives pulled we're already approved for this.
Let's be honest it's not like we'd set by a lot
My computer stopped playing the RUclips video when Linus removed that hard drive.
Dakota well, we cannot be sure can we? How much profit is made from people with cancer? Why would they want to "cure" their income so it would disappear :P #ConfirmedConspiracyTheoristRightHere
I was watching porn there....then it suddenly stopped.....now i know why
Putting these in the racks before the cables must be so satisfying!!
It is quite amazing.... how the microphone is handling the background noise vs linus' talking.
200,000 gamers, 1 building
Piyush Ochani lmfao
You could actually probably do that, if you rented the hardware.
Renting the building would probably cost a million dollars for one day.

It would definitely destroy all the other server rigs from nanopool by far. I guess like 5x the speed.
This is absolutely mind blowing!
CEDAR2 at 1.6PFLOPS, is No.6 in Canada and No. 256 on the TOP500 as of Sept. 2019.
I'd like to imagine that when Linus pulled that drive out some random Canadian researcher's project completely crashed
David Buss yea that scientist was just discovering cure for cancer but then linus fucked it up
I was genuinely like "Wait, is that... OK?" when he unplugged the drive.
I was like, "well there's a RAID rebuild right there" ... (although I'm assuming they're not using RAID)
Usually these kinds of hot-swap storage servers are in a some kind of redundant RAID configuration so that nothing goes wrong if a drive breaks or someone pulls it out.
190tb of RAM. can we have a moment of silence.
I dont even have a terabyte of storage
Due to adding about 30k new Skylake cores, the memory total is increased to well over 300tb!
