    I love how goofy this couple is yet obviously he is a pretty skilled mechanic. Don't let him fool you, he knows very well what he is doing to get these bikes working :D Also, the wifey is super hot :D Great youtube channel.

    That pop sound, when you put the battery holder in is the most pleasing sound after that hard days work
    And the beauty and simplicity of an analog tachometer is hard for many to understand

    Please don't fear doing something that might be boring to your dedicated viewers. We love experiencing your genius and Jennies glorious humor and patience. You guys could make brushing teeth and cleaning the fish tank interesting, and the whole time making me believe that I too can accomplish something. I WANT MORE, MORE, MORE I SAY !

    Couple others already suggested it... I highly recommend switching to LED's where ever you can. They are so cheap these days, and since you like to build things you could make your own LED boards if you want. That battery will deal with LED's NO problem.

    Yet another brilliant episode.. I think I would have made a plate (1/8” aluminium?) to take the speedo/tach unit, which would go under the handlebar mounts, saving you from drilling holes and weakening the triple clamp. It would have put the unit a little further forward, but allowed you to choose the viewing angle by bending the plate. I made something similar on my Chinese 125 to shift the speedo/tach to a better viewing angle.
    You two are great together, what a YT format! One of my all time favourite channels, I watch and rewatch all your motorcycle episodes. Thanks. Les in UK

    • @RichardCockerill

      why is it brilliant?explain?

    • @leslieaustin151
      @leslieaustin151 6 лет назад +1

      Richard Cockerill Well, I don’t see why I have to defend my opinion, but still... I think the whole channel is great because it’s got me back into motorcycling and motorcycle fettling after almost fifty years. Also it has taught me plenty about mechanic-ing older bikes, but more modern than those I used to ride. It is also an amusing and entertaining channel. As I said, brilliant (or ‘enlightening’ if you prefer’), and this episode is as good as many of the others. OK? Now, this is another man’s channel so lets not take up any more of his space for daft discussions. Les

    I had a KDX 200 back in the day and loved it! Rode the crap out of it and it never quit on me. Here in my state I was able to tag it with out an inspection so no turn signals or speedo and rode it to my riding areas without much problem. Got stopped one time and the officer was pretty cool about it, was more interested in the bike than me and told me to be careful and have a good day!

    Owned a KDX200 20+ years ago, was such a great bike. I eventually pulled it down and sprayed the frame dark grey, had a lot of parts re-plated and polished the swing arm and fork legs - like you, I had issues refitting the wiring harness so had to whip it down to my local bike shop.
    When I went in to pick it up there were three blokes checking it out, they couldn't work out what it was and thought it was new, I kicked the stand out and told them it was a 90 model KDX200, they freaked out!
    Think I sold it for $2700 AUD, which was what I paid for it ☺

    This was nostalgic, reminds me of all the electrical work I had to do on my 72 F7 Enduro to get it street legal. Luckily it still had everything but the lights and some of the wiring left on it. The weak little 6v battery though doesn't give enough juice to prevent the flashing effect fully, but the headlight runs on AC in that bike, so it's only the tail light that blinks with the signals.

  • @niceguy2171
    @niceguy2171 6 лет назад +2

    Get 'em straightened out Jenn, although I was fairly proud of him UNTIL he made that Large hole in the front critical support piece! If it breaks..it will only mean all control is gone, the front end will most likely fall off, and leave sharp pieces to greet the riders face ;( just wish he drilled it to where it was a tight fit to get the cable through..and oh yeah, did I mention I hope he didn't 'rob' enough parts off YOUR bike to keep you a nice safe dirt bike in that lovely lime green all of your own? Well I did now! And hope he knows your interjected comments at crucial times makes the videos interesting ;) stay safe you all..even if that means I'll take the first ride on the bike..although I'm wearing a full face helmet for this one! Can't wait to see the finish video(s) including your dirt bike going again too, maybe you riding around your property on it, together on a ride.

    Trail Tech regulator rectifier, and a small lithium battery, it's not complicated I have redid my Honda XR650R many times (and yes it's plated and Titled). Or you can make a cell battery of your own pattern and maybe install it in the airbox, that is how my bike lived it's first 5 years. I just got tired of making a battery every few years, now I took a cheap 12volt drill battery and installed it on a mount behind the headlight on the bars...lol I might replace this with a small lithium though as they are pretty cheap now.
    Also take a look at your stator, my brother in-law rewound mine by hand as the XR650R wasn't using all the poles. So most of it is for DC and I think like two poles are for AC...buy some stator wire and epoxy. Off course you could spend $200-$300 and buy a well made stator too.
    Oh my drill battery has lasted 3 years now, when they do die it's easy to go to Home Depot and buy a 12 volt new one, paint it black and no ones notices it. Also the battery will smooth out the wave pattern of the current. You could also use a large capacitor. People do that and they tend to be really light and fit in tight spots.
    $75 for a 85 watt Ricky stator for that bike...cheap
    $53 for a capacitor encased in rubber from Ricky also...yeah so dang cheap.

    I had a KMX125 for my 20th, and the generator was enough to power a 100W Euro H4 and the rest. The electricity does not work on the bike not because of the bike, but because of the interface between the seat and the handlebar. Electricity is a science.

    Connecting wires is actually quite engaging - nice work! I may have taken some sound advice and "get another speedometer unit" - drilling that hole was painful. Take more advice from the missus.

    Drilling through the triple clamp made my insides hurt.

      Wow when is drilling through something used for structural support a good idea especially the way this bike is design bad idea in my opinion

      when something needs to be fitted to or through said structural support is a good time to drill through it. the only way to avoid doing it is to fix/weld everything to everything which is not practical and in this case use a different speedo which they aren't prepared to do.
      just using a screw is making a hole in a structural support.
      its not a big deal...

    If you have simply made a plate bracket out of some of that plastic sheet, and put a slight bend so the Speedo cable would have cleared the Triple clamp, problem solved... I have re-vamped many a Speedo for other bikes just because they were more pleasing to the eye, and with taking a few steps back and looking at the over all figment, I was able to get everything to work together. Including the wiring harness. If you know what wires go where in the plugs, and make a diagram on paper for both, its easy. You have a great little Gal your married too. She’s a keeper.

    Inline circuits with diodes in them, this keeps the circuit from going both directions. But it will still rob power form all the rest of the circuits, till you add capacitors and instructors or a battery to keep the others at a stable state.

    Recently did some electrical on a motorcycle(2002 DRZ) There is a relay that controls the pace that the turn signal blinks. I would have expected on the green bike that the relay was wired wrong. After all the previous owner put to stroke oil in your overflow tank! XD
