Loving the pod Doc👍Are you aware of the case of the escape from the state hospital carstairs in Scotland. 70s when 2 male patients killed a nurse before escaping and killing another man. It would make a good pod cast topic👍

I worked in a medium secure unit, and there was contractors in, a ladder was left in the garden which wasn't swept a patient got the ladder and went on the roof and then escaped. He was quickly taken back the hospital within an hour after being found hiding in the village.

I recall a stay at a hospital, not gonna mention name obv but it being a smaller hospital it didn't have a dedicated long term psychiatric ward so those of us there for mental issues were placed in the senior long term ward. The one nurse not sure what the title would be but her job was to deal with patients who expired. She was about maybe 5ft2 5ft3 a bigger woman but she was able to complete the necessary operations alone including moving the body to a gurney. The part I always found so amazing was this woman was never in a bad mood. I was there three weeks and not once did I ever see her anything less than polite pleasant and totally professional; she treated everyone on that ward myself included as if we were her grandkids and this is not the kind of treatment to which I am accustomed. Wish we had more like her.

Fair enough but shouldn't the main criteria for moving a patient forward be their readiness for that forward movement rather than a need for warehousing space? this is not a criticism of you specifically obv but of the system. We don't always improve at speeds of which bureaucrats would approve and too often budgetary concerns supersede the needs of the patients.

Hi Dr Das Just watched this Very disturbing.I dread to think what the level of brutality is like from the nursing staff in these secure units,it's bad enough on a ward in a general hospital I hope you're not personally offended when I tell you I HATE the psychiatric system with a passion second to none,I have withdrawn myself from the hospital system and am very fortunate to have an excellent GP Were it not for him I'd be dead,.I would like to ask why do you think the professor attracts bullies and thugs? Is it not a very competitive area of nursing to go into so they just have to take whoever applies? Does the section process need sorting out?One thing is for certain, there is d
urgent need for improvement I've certainly never come across a psychiatrist as nice as you,( alogies for the absence of paragraphing, need a trip to the O2 shop with this phone) I enjoy your channel

That’s because he has to project an image that doctors/psychiatrists (in the mental health) are actually approachable and reasonable and just regular guys doing a difficult job and just want to help us poor unfortunates until…. you question them or refuse something then they will instruct low life staff to get nasty…I speak from experience..!! just a bunch of charlatans who get away with anything behind closed/locked doors where you have no chance convincing anyone to listen especially when all staff close ranks and stick to a story..!!!!!! I agree with you mental health system is useless and at the end of it with all there bullshit aside all they have to offer/force is toxic mediation and nothing else….I have never heard of anyone being talked better….the best they can ever hope for is to stabilise you with a cocktail of disgusting meds that ultimately ruin you, and that’s it..!!!!
