Since the Not-E3 season is over, it's been slowing down a little bit in the news department. BUT, that doesn't mean we don't have a spicy conversation topic. Digital Foundry recently gave what they consider to be a conclusive answer on why third party PS5 games run just as good, if not better than the Xbox Series X versions. So we talk about that, and another misleading Sony patent for backwards compatibility. Elsewhere in the week we have some PS Productions news for the Horizon Netflix show, Astro Bots ESRB rating, and Helldiver 2 losing players. Also, if you're reading this, I'll be in NYC this weekend catching Pokemon. Just though I'd reward you for reading this so I gave you the inside scoop.

I know that you guys want to defend playstation but the bench mark of a success live serivce game is one that retains 20 to 30 percent of its players that is the industry standard so from that persecptive hell drivers is flopping.

@@user-oq6sc1qm4j Helldivers attracted a more traditional audience that doesn't just play one game forever. They enjoyed it a lot for a few months and then moved on, at least for now. That's what I did. It's the best selling game of the year on a modest budget and it's the fastest selling Sony game ever so I think that's good enough. lol

There are many things better spent for body, mind, spirit health than for videogames gossip/drama.
My rules about videogames:
1) Never preorder again.
2) Buy physical games only unless it's an indie worthy it game.
3) Don't purchase any game that has wokeness in it. The reson for wokeness is to destroy family values, gender identity, relationSHIPS, to feminize men and to masculinize women.
4) Do not but any game on release day. Many times publishers release an update as in censoring or adding microtransactions after the reviews are in. Being an impulse buyer enslaves you.
5) Any older games that get remade, most likely will be altered with wokeness for the modern audience a.k.a. weak minded droness that are easily manipulated emotionally a.k.a children in grown up bodies.
6) Do not trade games in the store, only with friends, coworkers etc.
7) Do not buy live service games (Helldivers 2 was an exception for me), I'm 99% a single player person.
Do not blame any developer/publisher/politician-governement), just go in front of the mirror for the source of the poison or the remedy. Anyone that takes advantage of your money is smart, and that makes you stupid. Everything is energy, they provide the games for money in exchange. If you complain that you had a bad experience, then go in front of the mirror about your poor, unintelligent choice
8)Enjoy the experience of playing videogames but dont be attached to this activity. Life is beautiful, there are so many beautiful things besides standing in front of the screen.
9) When you purchase new games at Eb games or anywhere else, the case must be wrapped in the plastic. Even if the worker tells you that has no scratches, is like new or whatever other bs reason tells you, you must demand it yo be wrapped. Do not argue/waste time. Unless it's a used game.
For as long as money is in your pocket, you have the power. If the situation requires it, leave the store, you do not have to buy the game, even if it is the last copy. Be a man of principles, do not let corporations and their schemes treating you like an idiot.
10) Never buy scalped products. Scalpers are scums.

Just played GTA Chinatown on psp yesterday, man I love that game, it's definitely underrated.
I play HD2 on PS5. The player drop really occurred after the "need to sign up for PSN" for PC players. Many of my "friends" I met while playing HD2 stopped playing after that and have not returned.
Nearly all friendships are superficial and depend on a shared interest or work/school.
If you meet playing mtg, and one quits... the friendship will probably end as well. It's just how people are.
Being a good friend doesn't even matter... people want friends with the same intersts.. and that means they will pick a bad friend with a shared interest over a good one with no shared interests.
I stopped playing because of bugs that prevent completing the mission, other player dropouts, disconnects, etc. it never got fixed.

To me it's not about the performance, I wouldn't support Xbox just due to them focusing on an anti consumer rental service , I'm a firm believer in vote with your wallet and these subscription services take that away, while that's the focus I just can't recommend anyone getting an Xbox or supporting that company
No it's not. XBOX is behind in performance. Legit takes game devs longer cause they have to cut stuff to make it work. It's one of the reason we are so behind in development in games

If anything, devs are "behind" thus gen because they are still releasing games on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

The big difference about HD2 is that is not a free to play game so it's not like this news are trying to frame it. It succeded in what they pretended.
A ton of journalists are unable to do their job properly, scrambling after clicks instead of writing an actual article is a huge issue within the industry.
I’m hoping Astrobot succeeds. Not only could it pave huge things for a huge return of mascot style games. Astrobot had a 3 year dev cycle including proto-typing. Demonstrating insane development efficiency at incredibly low costs.
This could be huge for adaptations, since I believe something teased was for Astrobot as well. And speaking of adaptations, if they redo Horizon approach, I hope it's a CGI Show like Arcane or Trigun Stampede. The budget of Arcane was is far lower at $90m, for expressive characters and beautiful animation. I think such a gorgeous world would be better captured in animation. Same with God of War personally.
As for Hell Divers 2, not only have we seen the impact of a well received expansion can have on Active player activity of Live Service games like Destiny 2 or FFXIV. If Helldivers 2 gets a substantial expansion or update, such a thing can happen for it as well. Hell, I think a Starship Troopers styled adaptation gets announced for Hell Divers 2, which could very well stimulate player return and volume
As for the Bluray drama, it was all misinformation. I can’t see them dumping physical units because there are too many rural territories with inconsistent and poor connectivity. Like you said, maybe that changes by the time of PS7. But they still have to take that into account.

Sony should have Sony Pictures do a big budget Horizon movie. For GoW the Norse games actually showed you don’t necessarily need big budget spectacle, character-driven and well written Kratos storytelling alone can make for a compelling series, they just need the right writers.

Nobody listened to Cerny even DF.... It's weird they tried to summarize it as just better tools when almost every pipeline in the PS5 system is just more efficient and has the right optimization
DF was trumpeting the raw tf performance of the series x for years but ignoring the split ram pool which has 40 percent of it's ram on a slower interface, and then when their non main hosts started benchmarking it was undeniable the series x constantly had more stuttering issues, one of the worst offenders was cod streaming between areas even within the same level
And even just to point out, even pre-release of PS5 developers were constantly saying they were surprised how powerful the PS5 was and were saying it was more powerful than the Series X... and it was youtubers like DF who didn't believe them, even more popular RUclipsrs like Linus (but Linus is a full scam artist so he should be ignored at all times anyway), channels like DF always depend on this "they just have to learn the system" when studios absolutely do not spend time doing this anymore, it simply takes way more time to develop games, they aren't going to go out of their way to optimize specific systems anymore whether it is consoles or PC, they are far, far more spending time making content now, not the specific system optimizations
If a game is using less than 10 gb ram so it's only on purely the faster ram like halo mcc then series x is perfect but anything trying to use more than that is a bad idea because of the split pool, so it's the newer games which struggle on series x the most
DF was also one of the biggest channels to try to say series s would not hamstring the generation for Xbox when it is very clear it does so
The tools part is just ironic bc df like every else assumed Sony has worse software "because Microsoft is a software company" not understanding Microsoft is an enterprise software company not a consumer one, they have sidelined Xbox so much it's not even funny anymore and you can feel like while using a modern Xbox today
I now own a series x and 2 actually for system link purposes and even just using the system the UI is terrible and you can feel the windows like stuttering in the system and the menus are even all the same settings options as a windows 10 or 11 machine it is literally windows dressed up as a console and 360 never felt like that even, never owned an Xbone so I didn't realize how bad it got with their console ui
last thing phil spencer and DF mutually leaned into heavily was the RDNA2.5/RDNA3 features (i forget which was new at the time) unreleased on PC.... and one big one was having a newer pipeline, and also VRS or variable rate shading, but it never sounded performance beneficial to me even at the time, and now the review of VRS/variable rate shading because it is at the end of the rendering pipeline it's really barely saving any performance at all, i dont even know any of my PC games running on my 4090 which would benefit from such a thing at all, phil spencer of all people leaned in the most and assumed his "generational win" on the basis of the higher TF count (revealed in the microsoft leaks during the UK court decision to buy ActiBlizz).... everything about the Series X was just advertising and fakeouts, while other companies like Sony do the hard work behind the scenes to actually make the optimizations which make a difference (kraken decompression, unified speed system RAM, GPU boost modes to capture frame dips before they happen, etc)
There is no "hamstringing" a generation since ALL of said xbox games are going to PC at the same time. You know, the other DirectX dependent machine that also has wildly varying specs, from 980ti's to 4090's. Games SHOULD BE ABLE to be ran on older cards like that, and older specs like the series s, but even 2000 series and the best CPU struggles in games where they really shouldn't be, due to horrible CPU optimization by most devs (Elden Ring is a notorious one). There is no hamstringing with lower hardware when that's always existed thanks to the PC market, it's always been devs not optimizing their PC settings (which they then flip certain settings on and off for console ports) and CPU utilization with DirectX API properly

@@M_CFVif you played baldurs gate on a 980ti or something in the same performance area then you wouldn’t have good performance but consoles should have perfect performance otherwise people can’t play the console games. Since when is a console a pc? It’s not a pc. People who buy a pc know the merits, benefits and downsides of pc gaming and that includes that if you don’t upgrade on a 4 year basis, then you wouldn’t play the best games perfectly. A console is *not* like this, consoles should have performance without fps drops and bad textures for years to come.

Dang, I was hoping Astro Bot was gonna be M. I guess I'll cancel my 20 pre-orders then, sigh.....
I played HD2 almost everyday (not kidding I loved the game) and after the PSN required rule on PC I could see we lost a lot of players.
Also, after so many flaws from the devs (bugs and nerfs), I can see they are slowing down the content for the game. So, right now we can feel a lack of content and this results in repetitive missions and nothing to do with the Samples/Medals.
I believe the game will survive for many years but they need to focus on fixing a lot of bugs first and adding new content in the meantime.

Tokyo Game Show for PS is the reveal of the PSX, a PS5 with a Monitor built in and the reveal of the PS5 Pro and some games.

Ryan.. Microsoft has been playing the game of boasting "higher specs or some GPU advantage" since the first Xbox in 2001... it's just marketing... not real videogames and I know cause I purchased the first Xbox and stopped at Xbox One X.
The latter I mentioned barely got supported and it's always Microsoft that keeps insisting on when next gen jumps happen since they joined that's why it is also better to use a Sony PS5 for videogsmes...

The Helldivers 2 situation can't be terrible, it didn't even go on sale for the steam summer sale.
All you have to do is listen to Mark Cerny talk for like 2 minutes to know you should always have him design your hardware. He knew what the real bottlenecks were.
After watching the road to playstation, I was convinced my preorder wasn't a bad idea. Raw power will only get you so far.

End of the day having both consoles, there’s very very few games run better on PoS5. The hardware is better and it does perform better than $onys. So unless it’s a first party $ony game it’s better to get the 3rd party game on Xbox.

Ryan, with more and more talks about emulation/backwards compatibility on PS3 games. What does that mean to a game like Warhawk? It was online only
good... a horizon movie can not work... unless its the most expensive move ever made... and netflix has a very bad track record of movies...

Very interesting that Sony's last TGS was in 2019 and they're returning in 2024, basically the entirety of Jim Ryan's tenure as CEO they didn't attend. Maybe this is a sign that the new management is more open to going to trade shows again.

1:51 I got that Aloy figure and it's amazing, the amount of accessories it has is awesome, several faces, hands, and weapons. It's quality isn't awesome, it's like a marvel legends. But the details and articulation is great. I'll grab that Jin Sakai figure, probably it's good too.
My main theory is that due to the low clock speed the SX can't create triangles fast enough to fully utilize its CU's whereas PS5 creates triangles more than fast enough to fully utilize its CU's meaning te SX as a pretty nasty bottleneck there.

I’m not sure how often you get this or at all; but could I pay you to future proof a backwards compatible PS3? I was lucky enough to acquire one for a good price. It works beautifully but using it terrifies me. I’ve called local game stores in my area who offer repairs but none of them can help me.

I wish we could get a Wipeout anime movie, or TV series. There was so much compelling lore and worldbuilding with that franchise, it would make for something awesome. It could center around a young British woman as the protagonist who is a rookie Feisar pilot.
A new Wipeout game for PS5 would be awesome too

wipeout is the one and only video game that made me buy a playstation.. no wonder i never bought a ps5 and why i hate ps2 since wipeout fusion was atrocious.
@@racephase Wipeout Fusion had the most interesting lore, with the F9000 Racing League, which has some dark undertones, with themes of corporatism, and political corruption and collision within the sport. This would make a compelling plot for a film or TV show

Well if you have problems with games on Xbox series X you can always go on PC and play them on the best way to game still Xbox wins they are PC not just console like PlayStation and Nintendo stuck to console can’t play Spider-Man 2 yet on PC but when call of duty black op 6 gets on game pass I’ll be able to play it on PC where PS5 is just PS5

I wouldn't call games running at 768p below 60 FPS better, lol. Who even cares about a 2 FPS difference in games between two consoles? Sometimes it's better on PS, and other times it's better on Xbox, but both consoles being trash is the common part. At least they are better than the Switch, which is a complete joke.

It makes sense for Helldivers 2 to have a big dropoff of players after being so successful, but I also think people neglect to mention that the game is extremely buggy and plagued with balancing issues that haven't been meaningfully addressed. I stopped playing last week because I simply got frustrated. The game needs proper maintenance if it wants to hold onto a loyal playerbase.

I would love to see it, hope they can pull it off. It's a huge amount of work considering how unique the architecture of the PS3 is. In many cases a remaster might be a better choice but obviously the lesser celebrated games would never get remasters so this is a great solution for that.

Both of them run at the same resolution speeds this stuff is as all over RUclips years ago ps5 has more graphical glitches and hiccups than the Xbox series x I’ve seen it real time brother Ik consoles are opinionated but xboxnl runs alot more smoother .
Why do people seem to think a "PS5 Pro" is coming out? That's all I ever see trending on social media, yet I've not seen any official word, or even any evidence of it. Other than people who have an "uncle who works for Sony"... Why would they release a Pro, when they are full into PS6 development, and have announced to expect less AAA games this generation. I don't know about you, but that doesn't make me want a more powerful system. I can already run most games at 60fps, and when games are looking as beautiful as Astro Bot, GOW, Ratchet & Clank, TLOU2, and so on..why would we need anything. Oh,and I'd expect the PS6 out in three years, going by the 7 year console life,

Who cares? It doesn't change the fact that AMDs GPU business just isn't looking good on the PC. Their collaboration with Microsoft, Sony and AMD isn't helping them at all. I mean Nvidia is completely dragging them across the floor, and if you use Steam as the metric you will see that Nividia is the much more desired hardware, not AMD.
Oh no, people who played Helldivers 2 on launch and enjoyed the shit out of it for a good few months are slowing down to probably just playing it once a week. I know when it came out I was playing it almost every day with my mates but as with ANY game that won’t last, it’s unrealistic to expect huge updates every week and other games are coming out/requiring attention.

cerny went straight to talk with the devs while xbox did the 2006 ps3 thing and tried to add the best components to end with a console that has to struggle with their own software, and if that wasn't enough to give devs a headache, they also released a console that is a quarter of the power the bigger console has and you have to make your game run in both consoles with the same content or you can't release your game in their store. lmao
I personally believe that when making a game for Xbox, their focus was making it running on Series S first. Then from that build they add things here or there to boost graphic or resolutions. Game would have run better if it's focused only on Series X.

The scripts from a story based game should be used and faithful to a live movie or series. The production should be painstakingly detailed and recreated including choices of actors and acting of course.

@@solid_justice5855 Mark Cerny didn't go nearly enough into the detail about the nature itself of porting/developing games. He focused mainly on the console and what it can do. Fortunately we have industry experts who can tell us the exact implications.
DF could have done a better job trying to explain why PS5 is more often than not faster then X. IMo is the reverse situation of xbox360 and PS3. Clearly Cerny learnt from previos mistakes and PS4 design was akin to xbox360, single and fast memory pool, faster GPU units albeit in less quantities to keep the console cool. Weirdly enough MS team decided to go with a PS3 style design of slower gpu cores (in larger numbers) and even more weird they opted for a split memory config (also similar to what PS3 did) , which is notoriously known to be hard to program form. So, PS4 is lean and easy to program for, while X needs a lot more work to get the right performance due to its highly parallel setup.

Helldivers population drop wouldn't be nearly as severe if snoy wasn't so asinine about region blocking people for no god damn reason, including my EUROPEAN country using EUROS as a currency that has access to pretty much everything else. And no, it's not our government issue.
Still amazes me how ps5 don't bring a update out for ultrawide screens upto 32.9 for games they bring out 1440p so shouldn't be issue running the ultrawide. The ps5 games releases on pc have ultrawide support yet they don't even give the option on their on consoles is dumb. Wouldn't be hard for devs either to add the option into there games as pc already have it.
I’m going to have to go a little further than you on the figures. I believe Sony dropped the ball here. These are not gundams and even most children would rather have a statue these days. Not knowing their audience could hinder sales.

I really hate this whole "games work better on console x or console y" conversation that people always seem to bring up (I remember it as far back as the 360 and PS3).
It really does not matter that a game might work better on a different system as all that matters to me is do I enjoy the game.
Just because a game plays better on my system does not mean I am having a better time, same as if it runs worse on my system does not mean I am having a worse time. People need to stop worrying about the systems they don't have and just fucking enjoy what they are playing.

I really hope Astro Bot not only wins GOTY but sells Mario level numbers of around 20-30 million. I want Sony to wake up and realize that we want some of these kinds of games like Astro, and Sly Cooper to return and be just as big of part of Sony's games going forward as they treat GOW, TLOU, Horizon, etc.... these kinds of games is a huge reason why Nintendo is as big as it is. I literally buy every Nintendo console doe Mario/Luigi, Zelda, DK; thats it. Playstation needs that.
