Likei know parents can be charged with crimes for letting there kids miss too much school, but its still a good idea to investigate like a proper adult right?

I myself am 61 and a resident at an assisted living facility. OP didn't have to leave the building. a simple trip to the manager's office would have solved the problem and gotten that woman fired, or at the very least, banned from the facility. While I'm here, allow me to make a shout-out to Woodway Assisted Living in Bellingham WA. The staff, from the top down, are all helpful, caring people. The kidnapping story reminded me when I was kidnapped by my elementary school principal.
This was about 1992 or 1993 when this happened. On a Friday night, I fell down a flight of stairs in my home. Come Sunday I have a few bruises visible on my arms.
Monday morning as soon as I enter the school, the principal pulls me into her office and asks what happened to me. I answer, "Oh on Friday I fell down the stairs." She immediately has the look of I don't believe you on her face. She then tells me I can stay in the office until I tell her the truth. Since I told her the truth, I try to leave. She orders her secretary to grab me, she does and forces me to sit in a chair until I change my tune.
Now, our school provided both breakfast and lunch so I did not eat yet. Every 30 to 60 minutes I'm asked what happened to me. I say the same thing every time, fell down some stairs. Lunch time comes around, I still have to stay in the office.
End of the school day comes around, my older sister noticed I was in the principal's office. The principal asks her what happened to me. She says the same thing I have been saying. I still can't leave. I tell my sister To go home and get mom. My mom doesn't get home until 5pm and my sister tells my mom I'm still at school.
Never saw my mother so angry before or after in my life. All because "I fell down some stairs" was code speak for "I'm being physically abused." She was even more livid finding out I wasn't even allowed to eat. My mom did sue the school and won about $5000. I got McDonald's for dinner that night.

The last story: I used to do volunteer work as a teacher's assistant at my kids school 15 years ago. I got to know my kids classmates and their parents pretty well. I didn't realize how much some of the kids liked me until the summer break. It would be awkward but sweet when I would be at a store or restaurant and all of a sudden, I would be getting hugged out of nowhere by one of the kids I had helped during the school year. The awkward part was explaining to concerned strangers why a 7 - 10 year old child would run up and hug me out of nowhere.
I now live 500 miles from that town, and last summer, a very attractive young lady squealed my name and ran up to hug me at a park where I was attending a family reunion. Her boyfriend ( my second cousin's son) wanted to know why I was being hugged by his fiancee. She cleared up the confusion by explaining that I was the T.A. for her 3rd grade class and that she and my daughter were friends back then. My girlfriend nearly dumped me that day until everything was explained. 🤣🤣

It's Germany, teachers and principals are usually civil servants for life (Beamte), thus representing the state. The thing is, as long as your 'crimes' are minor, like even embezzling money you will get away with a slap on the wrist, but anything that violates the constitution (Grundgesetz) will land you in deep shit due to germany's history, which is why citizens' rights are very rigorously protected. The first 19 laws of the constitution are also called the 'Defensive laws against the state', which signifies how much modern germany is wary of government overreach.

I am terrible with names, absolutely atrocious. And each time I forget or get a name wrong it is always embarrassing and is followed by me repeatedly apologizing.
One example, I was a cub leader with 3 kids named Jake and 1 named Jason. I never got the Jakes wrong, but Jason always became Jake for some reason. First few times he found funny, then he got annoyed, and finally 2 years later he just sighed at me every time I messed up and I had to apologize for 400th time or something. By this point the 3 Jake's had moved up to Scouts and I STILL called him Jake. I knew I was getting him wrong, but whenever I wanted to say his name it was always Jake that came out instead of Jason. Really, really embarrassing.
To my credit though I never laid the blame on him like the Karen manager in this story did. Frankly that's just pathetic.

My understanding is that Germans tend to have a lot of respect for authority figures, so it might have been a situation where nobody was willing to call out a school principal for his behavior until he went over the top and kidnapped somebody. Its possible that receiving no pushback for his behavior convinced this principal that he was untouchable and could do whatever he wanted.

In any institution that's even slightly bureaucratic, it can be REALLY hard to fire people who aren't at entry level, even for VERY GOOD CAUSE. All you have to to is make nice till you're promoted a few levels, & then you can do whatever the hell you want. In US public schools, even teachers who've behaved so inappropriately with students that they're no longer allowed near a classroom get to stay on the payroll for years while the administration wrangles with the legal ramifications of trying to fire them...

On story 3, while I might have accepted the headphones and not reported her to police, you can be DAMN sure I would have insisted on a manager banning her from the store for assaulting me and making me feel unsafe to shop there. Screw her. She got off too easy, and will likely just repeat her behavior with the next innocent person she accosts in a store. Assault is never acceptable. Especially when it could cause permanent damage to someone's ears depending on the angle she yanked them out at. Don't let people like her go on thinking it's acceptable to do.

My current workplace was the first situation, where I didn't get in trouble for not listening, when I didn't realise my boss called me using the wrong name. One day she gets dropped off blocks away from her job while in her Work Uniform she gets approached by a principal of a high school that is driving by from lunch I guess. The high school is about 3 miles away & he starts arguing with her that she needs to get back to school or he would call a truant officer. She keeps telling him she graduated already & she needs to get to work before she’s late while pointing out the Very Obvious work Uniform. She finally gets away by running from him & goes to work. That evening when she gets home she tells me what happened, as this was before cell phones. The next day I call the high school & tell to the principal that if he ever accosts my daughter again then he will get arrested Not my daughter as she already graduated from another high school. I also told him you must be pretty dumb doing that to my daughter while clearly seeing she had her work uniform on. He Never stopped to bother my daughter again.

The crazy principal story: Did this guy honestly think he was qualified to be working with kids, with his abusive behavior!? I'm guessing that he deliberately chose to work in a job that would give him access to lots of helpless kids to abuse, while getting paid to do so. He wasn't sorry for abusing the girl. He was sorry that he got caught, and that he finally had to pay the consequences for his abuse of the kids. He lost his job, his benefits, and now has a criminal record, which must have made it hard to get a new job. He is also now banned from working with kids, so he no longer has work access to potential victims. What a horrible person he is!

Last story of little Jane: oh my heart! What a precious moment ❤ I work a fair as a cashier for a novelty booth. I once watched this small little thing walk out of the booth next to us, into our booth, out of our booth and down the hill a little before crying very hard. I ran to him and asked "are you lost?" He was so upset that he barely said anything the entire time I was with him. I called for the security to come, my boss came out and started hawking at the crowd "lost child, we have a lost child" and a woman popped out of the first booth I noticed him in and they claimed each other, he ran to her sobbing calling her mom, so I smiled and gave him a chocolate (with parental consent) and sent them on the way. His family came into our booth and the dad said he was trying on a cloak, thought the kid was with him, and the kid just didn't recognize him in the cloak and assumed they left the booth without him. It was pretty funny, considering he was perfectly safe the entire time.

In The Netherlands each year you have an 'Avondvierdaagse' for kids. Roughly translated: Evening 4 days, what means you walk for a certain amount of km/miles and the last evening you will get a pin. One time I couldn't, but my parents and I stand there with lemonade for my school to pass. Another school passes and the teacher yanked me from the stand and tells me that this stand is for another school. And I wanted to tell her that I do not belong to her school. She shushed me while holding my arm and walked with me. My father is 2 meters, so long and has a very loud and low voice. He yelled out: "HEY BRING MY DAUGHTER BACK YOU LUNATIC (in Dutch)". That teacher went bright red and said something that she don't remember every child of her school. Pffff. I was lucky though, bc maybe 5 min before, my parents were just taking things out of the car and not really nearby. Some people should not work with children EVER!

Looking perpetually like a 13yo I get the school stuff a lot. In my school years it was always, you can't possibly attend this high school you're way to young. Now many years latter I get constantly asked by police officers, school officials and the odd parent why I'm not in school. The best encounter was right after returning home from a flight. So still in my Captains uniform, pick my XJS up from the lot and start heading home, and it was during school hours. Pass a cop checking radar I think, and thought nothing of it till he pulls me over, weird but ok, maybe I've got an out light? Except this guy was super serious, comes up, gets me out of the car and on the curb. Then asks where I got this car from, where I go to school, what's with the costume, etc etc. So figuring this out real fast I just tell him look, my license is in my bag, the insurance and registration is in the glove box, and its in my name, go ahead and check it out. Gives me the talking to about if I'm lying and all that, but checks comes back and apologizes. And explains to me and his back up that he thought I was a kid skipping that had stolen her parents Jaguar. Gives me my stuff back and we had a good laugh about it.
Yeah I think he over reacted a bit, but wasn't really rude or anything so guess it's better them doing their job then not.

The first thing that the principal SHOULD have done before grabbing a child he didn’t know was find out what school they went to and where their parents or guardians were. I don’t care who you are… if you don’t know who the person or child is, you don’t force them to come with you. Forcing an unknown person to come with you IS the definition of kidnapping and forcing them to stay with you is the definition of unlawful detainment. It doesn’t matter if “to many kids are skipping classes”. If you don’t know if this is one of your students find out more information before you do ANYTHING. What an idiot!
