As someone who is getting back on a scooter after 20 years, I am really enjoying your video's. My personal preference is a fullface helmet and I did wear a padded leather jacket under my flight jacket back in the day.

Had a few offs on my scooter in the past few years and a motorbike way back. Did wear open face lid but soon changed to full face, always now. Protective jacket with armour, wearing same one now I had a spill in a few years ago and whilst it a bit ripped it saved me and still looks ok. Armour all still sound. My non protected areas were knees and feet as I wore normal jeans and suede boots or trainers. Cut my knees up bad and injured my feet (toes and ankles hurt pretty bad). I now wear protected trousers and casual boots which include armour in vulnerable areas such as toes, heel and ankle. You can get kit which looks ok on a scoot but most kit is understandably more suited to the bike market. Bottom line is there is no pain free spill on a scooter or bike so prepare for it.

Great video. It’s good to see someone showing what they actually wear and why. As much as we love scooters, it’s not just about the bike, there’d more to it, especially for safety. I’m looking at buying and getting into scootering, so this is all good info. Thanks! 👍

I used to wear U S M65 jacket and always a full face helmet when I had Vespas some years back. After two crashes ( both not my fault) , one of which left my foot severely smashed, I beefed up on riding gear. Armoured jackets and safety boots nowadays. As you point out, you can look good and still be safe but safety should always come first. As the saying goes... There are two kinds of riders, those who have crashed and those who are going to crash.

Definitely a full face helmet and armoured clothing and jackets are easily available. Some years ago I came off my Vespa on a main road whilst wearing jogging trousers, thick cold store jacket and full face helmet. I had to keep visiting the casualty department to have the dead flesh debrided from my knee which was no fun at all and I was lucky to survive.

I agree with you. If you want to keep it in fashion with the scooter like you have, it's very possible with the amount of different styles of protective gear on the market these days. And as I always say...
"Don't dress for the ride, dress for the slide".
Even if that's hidden with fashionable protective gear.

You have raised a good question there. Personal choice but for me part of ridding a scooter is breaking free form that suit of armour. I started on scooters in the seventies, it was as much about the scene for me then as mode of transport. Went through a mid life crises wearing armour and ridding big bikes in the 90's but never took to them and hated the ridding gear. I have a Molossi open face helmet, I wear a wind and water proof substantial shorty jacket in the cooler months but shirt sleeves on a hot day, I wear chino's, Goodyear welted shoes and always gloves. A retro type scooter keeps the rain off your feet and legs except in a monsoon. I ride a Vespa GTS 300 love that pop down the shops, pop down to a bar or cafe and a trip down the coast freedom it gives over my car. Check out Stuart Fillingham's vid below on full face verses open face. He's a biker but I have a lot of time for him, he talks a lot of sense and owns a Royal Enfield, a bike I have ridden in India. I have gone back to ridding scooters when I'm abroad too, much easier then rinding a bike with a back pack in the heat. ruclips.net/video/dMWcazM2Gmc/видео.html

Just came across your channel and subbed. Personally I wear a full face helmet having had an accident several years ago where my full face helmet saved my face but totally trashed the helmet. Other riding gear are the armoured jeans, leather ankle boots that I look like ordinary boots and a jacket that looks ordinary but has amour. J&S sells a range of clothing that doesn't look like typical biker gear but gives more protection than standard clothing. There was a line of armoured flyers and Harrington jackets but I haven't seen them recently. At the end of the day it's your choice what you wear. Yesterday I saw a guy riding a GTS in an open face helmet, shorts, vest and flip flops and no gloves. Sure he was nice and cool but if he came off then a lot of skin would be lost at the very least.

I have a open face helmet and a full face flip front. I must say that the open face dose look cool 😎 with my union jack neck and face covers. But I always feel abit safer in the full face helmet. As for body protection, its always textile jacket with armour. I see a lot of youngsters on these sporty looking mopeds wearing shorts and t-shirts, it makes me cringe just thinking about coming off unprotected. You have to be safe when riding, even a tumble at low speed can leave some nasty scratches. Keep safe, keep scooting 👍🛵

Something about scooters makes you lean towards a more casual/stylish line of gear!! If I’m bobbing about I might not have a good jacket on and wear pumps but gloves a must for me! Jeans like those( I’ve seen chinos like it too) are excellent compromise 👍 Full face usually, but I’m tempted by some of lovely open lids available now. Your full face is epic though!
Long trip/ high speed it’s pretty much same as motorcycle gear as I’m like you, l like to be comfortable and feel a bit more protected. Important not to fall into group think, with this topic, wear what you want and like but take the responsibility for your actions.

I personally have a full face helmet and I am very glad I did. I came off last year and although I was going relatively slow I face planted the road and if it wasn't for my helmet my face would of been a right mess. Needless to say I had to buy a replacement i also wear gloves and a hi vis jacket with ce protection. I am definitely not a mod or someone trying to relive the bygone era I just really like the style of my lexmoto milano. I will admit though at first when I initially got my scooter I did get a little bit caught up in looking at all the gear that is available lke mirrors and lights and so on but i have since realised that although I like a bit of chrome I definitely prefer the minimalist look on my scooter

It's a matter of personal choice how much protection you want to wear on 2 wheels, but I don't see that the type of 2 wheeler you are riding is really relevant. If you fly off your bike and land on your head in the road it makes no difference what sort of bike you flew off of. Same thing with getting rear-ended or T-boned by a car. I don't even own a full set of leathers, and the helmet I wear can depend on my mood or on the weather, but which bike I'm riding isn't a big factor. I always wear gloves some form of protective jacket. And almost any helmet is far safer than no helmet. People who feel that a scooter is somehow inherently "safer" are deluding themselves.

well a scooter can reach deadly speeds too, so its a motorcycle disguised as something "not so deadly". Big mistake, because it IS deadly too. So I'd wear the same level of gear, you just dont need to look like robocop with full exoskeleton alpinestars gear, but a decent gear like youve shown is very good already.

Clothing wise I was torn when returning to scooters as I really wanted to have the classic MOD look but also wanted to stay protected as much as possible, I ended up buying the Spada Jimmy Who Parka, not quite a proper fishtail but certainly an excellent compromise with a short parka look but full back and elbow protection. As far as helmets go, open face look the coolest but I will only wear full face (seen too many after photos), I've gone for the Viper Retro range, 60's style in a modern helmet, think it works well with the spada parka
