Hi Dr. Turek, I am the kid in the video, David. Thank you for answering my questions, this conversation and the comments, especially after studying it more myself, really shed light on the issue. I've come to realize that a lot of my progressive Christian friends have a lot of beliefs that directly contradict Christianity, and I've reached out to a lot of them, especially after the live stream got out after the sermon(I got a LOT of backlash from my friends lol.) Thank you again for this, you got me into Christian apologetics and now I'm getting more confident in them!

Nothing good will come of this, David. Your attempts to "correct" your friends is just going to come across as sanctimonious and condescending. My only hope is that you really research the bible throughly and with an open mind instead of just trying to force the bible to fit your beliefs (which is the primary goal of apologetics). Maybe then you will realize the truth, which is that the bible is a fairy tale book used to control humanity for 4000 years.

@@anthonyprince2095Thank you. I agree that progressive Christianity is just the regression of truth, it's pretty illogical in my opinion. The reason I am on this path at such a young age is because I realize that without God, there's no objective purpose, value, morals, or beauty to life, and I refuse to live that way, especially after examining the overwhelming evidence for Christianity. I thank my Mom for taking me to this event, it's my first time going to an event like this, and I got to meet Dr. Turek, someone who also inspired me to get into apologetics. Since this event, I've branched off and am studying more and more. Pray for my journey please, and thank you.

I didn’t, everyone is born heterosexual. The fact is people desire to sin through temptation. Heterosexual people choose to sin as well, and straightness isn’t a sexuality. The question is, when did same sex desire originate? That is different based on the homosexual, and for them to individually answer, that’s personal between them and God. All sin desires are demonic, sin is from the devil’s temptation, which is why we need Jesus Christ. Homosexuals were either exposed to sex at a young age same sex or not, or molested, or today just influenced by the culture.

"I have a lot of friends who are progressive Christians..."
    .
No, my friend... you have friends who are progressives. If you sit down and talk with someone who calls him/herslef a progressive Christian, you find that many/most do not believe in the following issues:
    .
    1) The authority and inerrancy of Scripture
    2) Original sin
    3) The need for an atoning sacrifice. To them, "We're all just basically good people who are victims of socio-economic power struggles."
    4) The divinity of Jesus... maybe simply see him as a good teacher.
    5) The sole claim of Christianity as the way, the truth, and the life. Many see Jesus as one way among many. To them, there's also Allah, Buddha, "being spiritual",etc.
    6) The Old Testament. Many of them reject the OT... and many of Paul's writings as well.
    7) The holiness of God. They say, "Jesus loved everyone", but they neglect to mention he loved them by calling them to repentance.
    .
So in summary, anyone who describes themselves as a "Progressive Christian" has a huge uphill battle to climb to prove that they are in fact Christians. Many are social activists who glom onto the name of Christianity but have no intention of following Christ. They use "love is love" as a catch all, then refuse to define what they mean by love. It basically means do whatever you want, whenever you want, with whomever you want, and celebrate diversity for diversity's sake rather than because the diversity is actually beneficial and God-honoring.

@@code-cans My 2 cents here brother.
Being gay is no doubt sinful, and some are made and some are born . In the same way some have a weakness towards drinking, others theft , and many others- pride.
Whether someone acts on it, or not ; we've all fallen short. So short in fact, we deserve nothing less than the cruel death upon the cross.
Another thing I'd mention is how we all collectively nailed Jesus to that cross. We mocked him, chastised him, and not one of us can lift our heads from that utter shame and guilt. That is our greatest sin.
So as the chief of sinners, as Barabbas, I cannot say to another sinner your sins are greater than mine. As I am the chief, the most wicked sinner.
So when I look at an adulterer , I see myself. When I see a homosexual, A thief, a liar- the list goes on and on does it not?
With that said, I'm not saying we should sin all the more that grace abounds, God forbid.
But what I am saying is, Jesus saved us, called us, knew us from the foundation of the earth, and did not find it shameful to call us brothers.
In this world there are the seeds of God, and the seeds of Satan. The way we know who is who is by those who have ears, and eyes. The sheep will hear the master's voice.
They might come from a gang background, a homosexual background. But if they are God's elect they will hear, they will go through trials, they will be tested in the fire, and they will become sons of God. Born of both water and fire. Through the wilderness, bitten by the serpent, faith to look upon that bronze serpent on the cross, cross the Jordan river- dead to self. Born again into God's kingdom. Jesus as king.
Those who are not of God, will harden their hearts, live in worship of themselves which ultimately comes from the Devil. They will continue to practice sin. They will succeed in that sin. And ultimate separated from God.
So I don't judge too quick, because the wheat and the weeds grow together, and they look identical until its fully mature. The wheat will get heavy with burden, and humbly bow its head. The weed stands proud with no fruit, and gets pulled out.

Even though Christians are taught to Love as Jesus did, most Christians are often judgmental towards those who do not share the same beliefs or who are simply different - and most Christians often do not recognize the hypocritical nature of their judgments.
In this way, the Ego (the guardian of individuality) has corrupted Christianity - and most Christians do not seem to recognize this or try to correct this.
Instead, most Christians tend to fuel a sense of self-righteousness and superiority within themselves that too often leads to conflict with those who do not agree with them.
That is not what Jesus taught!
Jesus taught: Love your neighbor as yourself.
    No exceptions!
Jesus did not say: Love your neighbor only if he or she is like you, or Love your neighbor only if he or she is Christian, or Love your neighbor only if he or she is heterosexual.
Jesus taught that our neighbor is not different than us, that everyone is the same in the eyes of God, that everyone is God incarnate and that the same Kingdom of Heaven is within everyone.
Jesus had no intention of creating a religion, and Jesus was not involved in creating Christianity - and yet, a religion was created in the name of Jesus.
I just want to clarify this to those for whom the name of Jesus and Christianity, seem one and the same.
    Jesus knew this would happen!
Jesus knew that his teachings would be misused and misunderstood.
For that reason, Jesus has RETURNED - through the medium of the Christ Letters and A Course In Miracles, or through those who can communicate with the dead - to describe his life and his teachings over 2000 years ago, so he can rescue Christians from myths and fallacies too.
But no Christian has the capacity to listen to Jesus because they have too great a rebellious spirit and ego-drive.
So as you can see, Christians are enduring all the horrific force of their innate rebellious consciousness.
This is NOT punishment from God - but a natural working out of the Law of Existence: what you carry in your mind and heart will eventually externalize in your body, life and environment. When you resist and rebel, life offers resistance to you in the fulfillment of your desires.

Just as Jesus came in human body over 2000 years ago, to rescue the Jews from myths and fallacies, so have Jesus RETURNED through the medium of his original teachings (the Christ Letters, A Course In Miracles and A Course Of Love) distributed worldwide, to make it abundantly clear that the "Christian Religion" in no way reflects his true CHRIST message either as he taught it in Jerusalem - or at this present time when the original teachings of Jesus (the Christ Letters, A Course In Miracles and A Course Of Love) will arouse the fury and condemnation of "Christian" traditionalists. The Christian religion, as it stands at this time, is only a hodgepodge of the muddled thinking of the disciples' selective recollections and Paul's worthy homilies and other early writings. Much later, when the impact of Christianity lacked the visual effect of the gods and goddesses of the Romans, the Christian religion was adorned with "theatrical" but "expedient" nonsense to impress those whom the Ecclesiastical Empire of Rome desired to draw into their fold. This empire later imposed monetary burdens on the gullible people even more iniquitous than the taxes demanded by the secular Roman Empire on conquered nations. Even Caesar did not demand payment for souls to gain entrance to heaven!
You may wonder why Jesus is so explicit in his rejection of "Judaism" and "Christianity." It is vital to the success of the distribution of the CHRIST MESSAGE of Jesus that people should fully understand the true nature of religions which held humankind in their grip until the 20th century. Therefore, until Christians do realize the mythical and fallacious foundations on which Christians have placed all their convictions, Christians will find it difficult to get rid of cherished beliefs. Please understand that when Jesus makes such statements, Jesus is referring to "Christian religion," to the "tenets of faith," to the "dogma and theology." Jesus is NOT referring to those great spiritual souls who have sought - and continue to seek God and Truth beyond the dogma and beliefs. Jesus knows Christians have received the inspiration of God into their minds and hearts but are stubbornly adherent to cherished beliefs. Christians are blocked from spiritual progress by religious beliefs and practices. But the time has come for Christians to get rid of cherished beliefs and grow in spiritual wisdom.

People tend to forget that God explained the important revelation in scripture about a Christian that sins. We (Christians) can still sin and yes, we will still go to Heaven. We may get chastened while on earth if we continue in sin though. But, that has nothing to do with salvation. Salvation remains until we die.
    Hebrews 12:5-11
And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons:
“ My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD,
    Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
For whom the LORD loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives.' If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.

This doesn't get to the heart of the issue of the translation, though, which was the question at hand. Bottom line, if you look at the verse where it says, "A man shall not lie with another man," it uses the term "zakar," which means "male." It is given as part of a series of Commandments specifically given to men. There is no indication in the Hebrew that this refers to a boy.
Now, later on, in the Epistles, the Greek gets a little more ambiguous, but the Hebrew in this part of Scripture is very clear.
Regarding whether or not such people will go to Heaven, that is above our paygrade. I think we need to raise the question of, "Why is your morality solely based on whether or not you get Everlasting Life?" It may well be that the LORD will forgive homosexuality in someone who otherwise believes in the Son, that's not for us to decide. The question should be a matter of, "And what do you do to show y our gratitude for that salvation?"

Matthew 5:31-32 in the King James Version. 31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
How would there be hope for anyone who gets a divorce and even more so if that person should remarry since even if they ask for forgiveness, they will continue to knowingly sin each time they share a bed with any spouse that isn’t their first?

You can't debate the translation dispute from that point, the original claim is in the bible - so to argue the translation is accurate, you need the original manuscripts to compare to. The claim is the original text - not a critique of possible mis-translations. You also need to know that a lot of scholars use the translation differences when something is off in the bible. If you accept that slavery in Exodus 21 and Leviticus 25:44-46 is moistranslated when people point out that God is in support of Slavery, then you might want to consider that argument that something may have been lost in translation. Including what is be said here. You can't have your cake and eat it to. It's either all literally correct or it isn't.

If moral perfection can’t get us saved then moral imperfection can’t keep us saved. I know plenty of unsaved people who do “good works” according to the world. That CAN’T be your proof
of salvation. Your proof of salvation is WHO you are putting your trust in to save you. Just because the sin you struggle with in the flesh is different than the sins somebody else struggles with doesn’t mean you’re saved and they’re not. We can ONLY have confidence is salvation if we’re looking at Christ’s finished work and not our own. With this being said, God will not be mocked. When a born again Christian is falling into sin, God will deal with it as any good Father does. Whether that’s discipline or chastisement, there are consequences on earth and loss of reward in heaven for sin for a believer. But our salvation is NOT based on how good we live. Jesus paid for it all. IT IS FINISHED. Once and for all. When Jesus said that He never knew you to people who were claiming to do all these things in God’s name and they weren’t truly saved, is referring to people putting their trust in THEIR WORKS. “We did this, we did that, in your name, etc” They weren’t trusting Christ. They were trusting their own works. Christ NEVER KNEW THEM. They weren’t saved to begin with. That is not referring to someone who fell into sin after being saved. Once saved, born of the spirit, you are a new creature and can’t be unsaved or unborn. We struggle with our flesh daily. The spirit doesn’t sin, but the flesh will battle the spirit until we are made perfect at death.

  • @signpost5596

(1 John 2: 3-6) - "When we obey God, we are sure we know him. But if we claim to know him and don't obey him, we are lying and the truth isn't in our hearts. We truly love God only when we obey him as we should, and then we know we belong to him. If we say we are his, we must follow the example of Christ."
So then, when a claimed 'Christian' denies what God clearly says is sin, he/she accuses God of being a liar. Since the so called progressive 'Christians' are in that camp, they aren't saved no matter what they say. They're deceived and try to deceive others.

Yup. That’s because Jesus fulfilled the law through His perfect life and therefore made those specific laws not apply. But homosexuality (among other sins) are still wrong because the Bible says they are all throughout the New Testament. Also all food is deemed clean

Rather than looking for reasons to divide people you should just be happy 2 people find love and friendship in this world. Their relationship does not harm you. If your God has issues with it let him deal with them. As I recall some instructions were 1) Judge not lest ye be judged and 2) love thy neighbor as thyself... and maybe 3) for god so loved the world he gave his only begotten son. ... the world. Not the heterosexual world... the world. Everyone. And yes, back then same sex pairings existed. Now, for me those stories are all just the words of a fictional God, but you supposedly believe that book to be true. So maybe, just maybe, rather than picking out the pieces that support your personal bigotry you could lean more heavily on the parts that help you get along with others.

If keeping the commandments is proof of being saved rather than the process of being saved, no one is saved, not one. Everyone breaks the commandments here and there. And when it becomes obvious toward the end of one's life, that means they were never saved, to begin with, a wasted life. Either that or you lower your standards as to what breaking a commandment is to a ridiculous level.

The Bible is very clear about same sex relationships. It's mentioned more than once that a man is not to lay with another man as he does with a woman. I am fairly sure that that also pertains to women. The Bible is not to be twisted into what "we" "feel" it should be.

The beginning of sin, the mystery of iniquity began in Eden, Genesis 4:8-15-24. (Actually it began with Lucifer, but since he would never receive forgiveness, God began to impute His righteosness as soon as man sinned, and made a way out for him by the blood of the sinless Lamb slain before the foundation of the world, but that lives, sitted on the throne of God in the heavenly places. Ezekiel 28:16, and promptly judged verses 17-19, John 16:11, while man got a 1000 years deferred punishment, which was paid for by the sinless blood of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, and the complete man, on the cross of Calvary. )
This sin couldn't readily be judged simply because there was no preceding law about being one's brother's keeper that was broken. (Thus, the whole system was destroyed by the flood, and the laws started with that Genesis 9:5-6, until finally judged and finished on the cross John 19:30)
And in verse 15, a precedent was laid down for the time it would take to judge sin, 70x7 or 490 years.
That generation was wiped out by the flood, but the precept remained: sin shall be avenged seventy and seven fold. (Matthew 18:21-23).
This was the standard by which Israel also judged, as they also had to spend 70 sabbath years ( or 70x7= 490 years), in exile, outside of the promised land.
When it was the 69th week year Daniel prayed to God, and fasted to remind Him of the imminent due date of the return of God's people to their promised land; but the sin of the Amorite was not yet full, Genesis 15:16, also, Israel was still in rebellion towards God, and the land cannot sustain rebellion- it was Holy!
So, the Messiah had to come and make a way for grace and justification, and righteousness of God to be imputed, so Israel can get back their monarchy, through the house of David, and back to the kingdom of God, by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, as the Son of God, and the Son of man -the promised Son of David, the king of Israel to order His Kingdom Isaiah 9:6; who would ascend His throne as God had promised him. Romans 1:3; Acts 2:30, and come to bring them back to God, Jeremiah 16:16a; Luke 19:10; Matthew 10:5. Instead, they rejected and killed Him.
Thus, from then onwards, the way to God was opened to whosoever would come to Him by grace through the shedding of His blood, by grace through faith in His sacrificial death, burial and resurrection.
They were given the adoption of sons and daughters into the kingdom, which hitherto, they were not permitted Ephesians 2:13; John 1:11-14, becoming heirs and joint heirs of God and the Abrahamic covenanted promises an blessing (Genesis 25:6- the representatives of his other children by Hagar and Keturah, the Kings of the East, could now access and partake of the blessing, and they showed their allegiance and faith, by worshipping Jesus Christ, as a Child!)
Jesus Christ gave His life for all who would simply believe in Him as Lord and Savior, in order to keep them from the wrath of God that will be unleashed upon the Amorite, until the end. Isaiah 63:18; Daniel 8:13; Zechariah 12:3; Luke 21:24; Revelation 11:2.
And eventually, they will be rescued at the second coming of Christ Luke 21:13; Zechariah 14.
He finished the work of salvation of the soul of man John 19:30 and this continues the "acceptable year of the Lord" which began as He took the sealed book of Daniel, 12:4, from God, as the Lamb of God, who alone is Worthy, and opened the seals Revelation 5, and fulfilled the first of the three part of Isaiah 61:2, in Luke 4:16-21, and He SHUT it again. This will run through this dispensation of preaching of the gospel of grace, (which ended the preaching of the gospel of the kingdom, which ended with the stoning of Stephen) by faith in the sacrificial death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and He will return to gather His saints from the world, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Corinthians 15; and present them faultless before the presence of God the Father, with exceeding joy, Jude 24; with victory over sin, devil, death, hell and eternal damnation in the lake of fire and brimstone Isaiah 66:24.
The second dispensation is nearly upon us, at this time Isaiah 63:4, which will usher in the tribulation period when the 70th and last year will be ushered in to finish all transgressions! Daniel 9:24.
( As the Messiah has become the sacrifice for sin, and was dead, buried and rose again from the dead! His shed blood sprinkled on the heavenly mercy seat for propitiation for sins for all who would go to God by and through Him, simply by faith! Ephesians 2:8).
Then, the Lord will return the second time, complete with His body, as a new Creature resting upon the Mount of Olives Zechariah 14, to make a way of escape for the remnants of Israel Matthew 24:31.
Then the battle of armageddon will ensue, and it will end up in total obliteration of this earth. Isaiah 24; Joel chapters 2 and 3, Jeremiah chapters 1-11...; 1 Peter 3 etc.
This is the fullness and end, and judgment of the sin of the Amorite! Matthew 18:21-22; Psalm 75:8; 73:3-17.
Then the new heaven and earth will be created after the conclusion of the millennium- to mark the expiration date of sin and death, like it was back in Eden. Now man will live out the 1000 year curse of death Isaiah 65, (Genesis 5).
Then history will repeat itself when everything reaches full circle- the serpent will be released once again, Revelation 20:1-6, to tempt man as he did with Adam and Eve, those who follow him will get totally judged and cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, together with hell, death, the antichrist, false prophets and all whose portion is with them Isaiah 66:24. Revelation chapters 19-22.
God has perfected the end from the beginning. But as it is written-"My people are destroyed for lack of Knowledge " Hosea 4:6, so, "With all thine getting, get understanding " Proverbs 4:7; Luke 24:45. Be filled with and led by the Holy Spirit, and abide in the fold, John 10, until He returns as promised, to take up His purchased possession! John 14:26; Ephesians chapters 1-2!
Then He will set up His kingdom! Isaiah 9:6!
    Be encouraged!

If that was the case God would not shed his blood, God would said oh love me and you will sin no more because you love me! But he knows us! Someone who repents has conviction is not proud feels ashamed has the holy spirt troubled And remorseful is saved
