    Between the 3 way tie at Atlanta, KFB driving backwards, and the the track the speedway of the south was based on entire strategy boiled down to “YOU NEED TIRES YOU IDIOT!”, Cars (2006) is looking more and more like a documentary with each passing day.

Look... short tracks are some of the worse for this Next Gen car... but this race showed that a small change can make a hell of a product. I really hope they don't change the tire at all. The next race there will be night so tires wont fall off as much. Just keep it how it is for the love of NASCAR. lol.

    Bristol was a flashback to the 1980s era. The veteran drivers and crew chiefs who understood the need to take care of their equipment faired pretty well with the tire wear game at Bristol. The trick, don’t wear your tires out, but go fast enough to avoid going a lap down. I’m old school, and I think that this was an exciting race to watch. On the track as well as in the pits, the experienced drivers and teams prevailed. Crazy wasn’t it!

      @@mattharrell3932 I should’ve been more specific.
      The tire wear during todays race reminded me of the Hoosier/Goodyear tire war of the late 1980s, but with all of today’s teams using 1 tire. Hoosiers were softer, but less durable. You’d get more speed at the beginning, but the drop off was significant as the tires wore. Goodyears had better wear, & were more durable & consistent with lap times. All the teams had to manage their tires throughout the race, without the benefit of staged cautions. I specifically remember when some cars would smoke the right rear at Dover when it was asphalt. Back then, some teams would buy sets of tires from independent teams as they’d drop out. Mark Martin won his first race at Rockingham with black wheels on the right side, but silver wheels on the left.

He said that they were going through tires so fast, some teams were taking tires off of cars parked in the infield. The third place finisher, Red Byron, went through 24 sets of tires. And the winner? Johnny Mantz, who consistently drove more than five seconds slower per lap than the fastest cars and finished on the same set of tires that he started with, nine laps ahead of the second place finisher.

    Bowman starting 29th and working his way up to the Top 10 quickly, then falling back a few times but keeping at it and getting a Top 5 is a day he needed in my opinion. I think he deserves as much credit as the Top 3 who were around most of the day up front. Bowman had the strategy down correctly, but cautions were coming out too often until stage 3 for it to play out. I enjoyed this race a lot, even with Denny winning haha
    Ref the Toyota overhyping, I just don't think it is that impressive that they are doing this well already. So what it's a new car, you say it yourself all the time that there is very little to CHANGE now with this car, so Toyota also had data on the other manufacturers, what worked for them and not, and applied it to a new car. They all run close speeds already, and the changes they made just improved them a little better than they already were, which was not bad to begin with. In order to be so shocked that Toyota is doing well, you might need to explain to us why, because I dont find it that crazy. Im sure when Chevy gets a new car next year they will also blend right back in and improve a little as well. Right?

That being said, watching todays Bristol race put me right back into that era of racing. I wasn’t thrilled with the winner, but I loved the racing. I hope to see more at martinsville and at Bristol later this year.

    I do agree that today’s race was very refreshing and somehow accidentally became exactly what the short tracks needed. However, if we would have seen the type of tire issues we saw today at any other track, it would have been deemed a massive failure on NASCAR and Goodyears part.
    I want to see more of this - BUT, it can’t be at the complete expense of the tire. If that makes sense.

    Only reason I wouldn’t give it a 100 is because the teams were caught off guard the surprise factor kinda ruined stage 1. Having two leaders with just a few laps to go crash and/or blow tires. But bring it back in the fall teams will know now and it will put on an awesome show

    Reminded me of old Atlanta, which I really loved. Maybe this past winter took its toll on the track this year? Did the truck race put rubber down? Did the Cup series put rubber down last fall, I can’t remember? Pretty impressed with Bowman. He was just ahead of Elliott in 10th place when the 9 got lapped. Bowman passed a number of cars and finished 4th with 12 laps to go. He and Larson also saved tires really well.

    Low profile tires are too thin to have heavy tire wear actually work. This is why Goodyear just can't seem to figure it out because there's just not enough rubber on the tires to begin with.

  • @craigroberson8757
    @craigroberson8757 5 месяцев назад +4

    Yes, tire wear was massive. Truex, Hamlin, and Keselowski showed us experience was key. Bowman was lost most of the day. Larson and Elliott had to make some aggressive adjustments behind the wheel. The crew chiefs did all they could do and drivers had to work all the lines to make it work. This year has been a return to the racing I love.

    I'm gonna say this right now: Savor this race. We're probably not going to see another one like this for awhile if they do decide to change things up before the next Bristol or short track race. I hope they don't do anything drastic because this was easily one of the most entertaining races from start to finish in a looooooong time! Not to say the other races this season haven't been entertaining in their own way, but it's been awhile where I was watching a race that wasn't like a Daytona or Talladega and seeing something happen practically every lap! I loved every minute of the action today!

    I took his "too drastic" comment as a comparison to wear from last fall to today, not that the tire wear was too drastic.
    That said it was a bit too drastic, they shouldn't be popping after 40 laps (20 miles mind you). That said if they could make them wear like this but not hit 0% so quick we'd have something. It was an incredible race, and just a softer tire may be our short track savior if they can get the balance right

    • @truckercowboyed2638
      @truckercowboyed2638 5 месяцев назад

      The thing is many drivers made their tires last longer than 40 laps so I think the ones popping were those inexperienced with saving tires ...the best drivers saved their tires until the end....
