I’m frustrated by the ongoing conversation about Ford's "struggles" when, in reality, Chevrolet has faced even greater challenges. Aside from Hendrick Motorsports, consider the following: Trackhouse has generally been underwhelming, RCR has performed terribly, JTG's performance has significantly declined this year, and Spire has been dismal apart from Hocevar. Kaulig Racing has consistently placed around 30th. Outside of Hendrick, Chevrolet's performance has been dreadful.

I really hope, SOON, we get a wet weather policy in place, where NASCAR is not making up the rules as we go. Most importantly I want the teams to be able to competitively pit for new wet tires when they want, or take the chance to slicks. NASCAR stock racing in my opinion sucks out so much strategy with stages, competition cautions, etc... and the wet weather tire has come along, but they need to spend the money to test properly, and lay down a rule book. Stock the car, not the racing.
I would love to see that too, but as the NBC booth mentioned on the broadcast, competitive pit stops under wet conditions on pit road literally puts a couple hundred lives at imminent risk. Yes, there is risk in dry conditions as well, but it goes up exponentially when pit road is wet. That said, my biggest question was, since NASCAR knew the traffic on the track would aid in the drying process, once the big puddles of water were off, did they not bring the air titans down to dry off Pit Road? It would seem 1) that should be a higher priority since there would be less traffic there, and 2) with the comparatively small area to dry, it should be a process they could have accomplished under the several yellow laps they ran before throwing the green.

Chase Elliott involved in a wreck Restarts 26th Recovers to 9-12th Bad restart Finishes 18th Hes so good at damage management He maintains his status as the only driver in the field to not finish 20th or worse in a single race or more
They're buying new motors at every race they think Justin's gonna be good at. Being on the Roush campus let's the RWR engineers go in and hand pick which of the available motors to buy. It may not seem like much, but it's allot better than prior. When they were buying and running mostly used motors/equipment.
Coming from an FRM fan: Todd Gilliland showed real speed today, running top 10 and sometimes even top 5 consistently today Unlucky for Michael McDowell, he was running around the same as gilliland, would’ve been a top 10. I’d much rather have had the race end under rain, McDowell p4, Gilliland p6. Gilliland is starting to show why I like him as a driver.
It was a good experiment on NASCAR'S part with the tires hopefully they can learn from this and let the teams afterwards other then the pitstop after the red flag ends to decide which tires they want.
I agree Eric, Kyle needs a new crew chief. Never is a strong word, but they never get the car right, NEVER! Had a year to fix the New Hampshire setup, fix it or lose fans. Ridiculous!
That was the same storm that hit me last night. There was a small tornado, it ripped someone roof off. It was maybe 5 or 10 miles west of me. Stay safe Eric.
I agree, hopefully NASCAR will give the teams a little more rope to make their own tire decisions going forward. Pit stops in the cup series should always be competitive and teams should be able to make their own decision on when they feel comfortable enough to put slicks back on. If they wad up their car, it's on them.
I believe that was Nascar's biggest concern, if thèy let them use slick tires maybe the drivers will lose control and crash and bring more and more cautions
As for the Groovy Guage, I am with you almost 100% (maybe 87%) on my part due to the unknowns and NASCAR not afraid to get their feet "wet" pun intended. We have to hand it to Nascar to roll the dice and play out the wet track scenario. Had it not been for team and fan's influence we may never have known the learning experience. There are times when you have to roll the dice by trial & error. Both NASCAR and its teams learned an insurmountable wealth of knowledge. Hopefully, we get to a point where a wet track becomes routine {within limits} and the crew chief makes the call in slick Vs tread!
I’m still trying to figure out why New Hampshire Motor Speedway doesn’t have lights. I know they don’t run night races, but there have been several times when rain has affected a race and night was closing in. If there’s a reason why they don’t have lights, I’d like to know
@@JaredR1996 NASCAR needs to return to having the race in September. When they had two races, rain was never an issue that I can recall in September. I attended many "Short-track Saturdays" then. Those were, without question, the best value for race fans and the most complete racing package for a Cup weekend. Not one, for at least several years, had any rain, nor did the Sunday race. The crowd was very different for that race, also. I believe the time of year, which impacted the weather, brought a different feel. The continual issues of weather and lights that have been a part of this race for years did not arise. Up until last year, the race was run about a month later, also.
Start the race at 9 AM. Forget the west coast. Do a time delay broadcast for those folks. TV broadcasters said Nascar wanted to finish the race for the fans. I got a good laugh when I looked in the stands. More than 2/3 of the fans left early. They were afraid if they didn’t leave early they would have to drive home in the dark. Hitting a moose no good.
Getting back to racing in wet weather is fine but when you have no competition pit stops it makes for a dull race and better chances for restart chaos. I love that they have rain tires but until they get a tire that last longer than 20 laps and are able to have a dry pit lane to have competitive stops it’s all just a regulated race by NASCAR.
I attended the race today, hate to see my guy Rowdy struggling but I still had fun, glad I waited for the weather to clear as well s/o to Goodyear for the wet weather tires
It was a career day for a few drivers. Todd Gilliland, Justin Haley, and Josh Berry were all in legit contention for the win late. I think Gilliland was particularly impressive; the strategy working out landed them the track position, but then he ran with the best of 'em and looked like he belonged there.
Here’s the main thing. Whenever Larson is at his best, he’s untouchable. Literally nobody can match his level. But whenever he has a shot at winning, it goes different ways. He either gets there or other drivers find a way to take him out. Whenever they see Larson charging through the field, they know how dangerous he’ll be if he gets clean air. The price you pay for being the best is that other drivers will try to bring you down. Larson is nowhere near a dirty driver at all. If he starts crashing cars every week, then I would understand the frustration from other drivers by beating and banging with him. But it seems like Larson isn’t the type of guy to retaliate no matter how bad the incident was. But then again, how much more is he gonna let this happen? At some point, the tolerance level has to change. It’s just like the classic example of how much are you gonna let the bully pick on you. The more you tolerate, the more abuse you’re gonna take.
I agree lemonjuice! I never even hear him get rattled over the radio & scream & cuss! But damn, his spotter was definitely Spot On today!! One of these races I think he probably will snap & I’m waiting for it! (Yeah, a little impatiently- lol)
Because Hamlin has no respect for anybody. Doored Larson 3 times over and ran him off the track. Larson is a champion, and he isn't yet. Then Hamlin will go and cry on his podcast saying nobody races with respect anymore when he doesn't either. Larson lets Hamlin push him around. At some point it has to stop, friend or not.
Being in europe some race will not be live, this one wasn't because of the 6 hour at the glen. I love watching the groovy gage for knowing if I should watch the race or not
I think the only one who had a worse day than Kyle is my guy Alex Bowman, finishing last. First HMS engine failure in 236 starts, and of course it happens to him. Big points hit. Starting to sweat again like last year with this bubble race tightening up.
NBC's coverage was so much better than Fox. Other than a bit on Suarez there were no cut aways for fluff pieces. Really good analysis including speculating what the rain on the paint might do, which we saw when Gragson lost control.
They ran on the oval banked part of the Charlotte track during the Roval Xfinity race during a down pour and nobody spun out except for the road course part… no excuses
Being there in person both Saturday and Sunday was amazing. The crowd’s energy was so so high even after the red flag. Very happy with how nascar handled it. The speedway’s text alerts were very appreciated, communicating to us that despite the severe weather conditions nascar had every intention of restarting the race as soon as the severe weather passed. Sure enough, seconds after I felt the last drop I heard the jets starting up.
I think Chevy gives nearly all their support to Hendrick which is why the other Chevy teams aren’t so great. Seems like Hendrick is the only tier 1 team for Chevrolet.
I was at the track myself, come about 6pm est we all had given up and then we heard what dale jr said on twitter and seen the radar. That we were gonna get this race in. My friends and I had an 11 hour drive home straight after the race and I forced them to stay and make sure we had a winner before we left. There was a full on river underneath the turn 1 grandstands so I was shocked they got the race it but I’m beyond happy that we did! The wet weather tires were beyond fun to watch in person! (Vlog on my channel coming soon)
For Kyle Busch, New Hampshire has been a love/hate relationship. He has won here before with Hendrick and Gibbs but also had several bad races. A few incidents include blowing right front tires in the Pedigree #18, wrecking while in the lead due to rain, which lead to Kyle hitting the pace car in frustration, a broken sway bar during the 2008 Chase that caused him to lose a big chunk of points, and today’s race where he was off the pace and not really in contention before crashing out.
The Busch RCR stuff reminds of when Bill Elliott went to race for junior johnson in 1992. Good results the first half of the year, absolutely fell apart the second half, then went winless the very next season. The same thing is currently happening with Kyle at RCR. Another case of nascar history repeating itself.
With my own eyes I saw briscoe hovering around 23rd to 30th the entire race, but when NASCAR puts on the “wet” tire he drives forward. This was a one off.
Man what happened to RCR? They have fallen off so hard this year. Between them and Kaulig they were 4 of the 5 slowest cars on the track for the majority of that first stage.
@acemoneymaker8242 yeah that's true lol loved michael waltrip racing tho lol Mikey was my favorite driver when I was a kid he definitely kinda sucksd but still won 2 500s lol
Im a busch fan. And i got to say that rcrs strong suit if they have any is definitely not short tracks. Aside from the coliseum they are terrible. Im not suprised by what happened and have no hope left for rcr.
I’m so happy NHMS is getting good races now. I know all the management guys at the track and it’s my home race, and they all work so hard and to see the track getting the races it deserves is just awesome!
2:08 as someone who left this race early it had all signs pointing to it being called especially due to the lack of lights at nhms I just didn’t think they’d go back green when the track was under a tornado watch at a point before they got going again
We said the same thing about Brad K in 2020 since he won New Hampshire, Richmond, and even Bristol (was really good on all short ovals). Phoenix comes and it slips from his grasp. I see a similar thing happening with Bell in this Championship
I thought the race was great; but NASCAR needs to quite running the cars around under caution forever when it only takes a few minutes to pick up debris or if a car just spins. They wasted a lot of laps just riding around under yellow.
Bell's win was a huge boost for me. I've been in a shelter lately but seeing my favorite driver win when I wear his hat every day got my mood wayyy up. Bell is easily going to be a multi-time champion, I'm calling it now
Even though KB is a 2x champion and has won at least 1 race since his rookie year, I think for the first time in his cup career, he has to be the leader of the organization. Even his early days at hendrick, he had gordon & johnson. Look at the teammates he had at Gibbs. Started with stewart, Hamlin had seniority in the organization. Truex, edwards, Kenseth. All fellow championship contenders and hall of famers.Johnson. Kinda crazy to think that after 20 years in Cup, he has more pressure on him now to succeed.
I was sure the race was going to be called when the rain started and turned it off and took a nap. Was shocked to find out there were ten laps left when i woke up over 2 hours later.
The race(after the rain) was great minus one aspect. Fans want to see talented drivers, display their skill in difficult and unfavorable conditions. And the best part is for the most part, they didn't go over line and turn it into a crash fest. However, Nascar needs to stop telling teams when they can or can't change tires. The strategy needs to stay with the teams. If Larson wants to put on slick tires let him. They can live with whatever consequences happen. It ruined a great aspect of the race. I really feel bad for Kyle Busch. Just not have his year. Looked like something just broke and sent him into the wall.
I wish NBC and USA could learn where to put their cameras based on Fox's coverage. The only food part of Fox coverage is that they blanket the track with cameras and almost always have good views of on track incidents, and it is the one spot that NBC seems to lack.
I think they should be able to run on wet weather tires if it's sprinkling. That kinda rain isn't gonna affect drivers visibility with spray like at COTA
Credit where due, the rain tires produced some surreal looking racing and I mean that in a largely positive way. What I wasn't big on was how race control just sort of did as they pleased -Red flag allowed off strategy cars like the 34/38 to fuel/change to wets while keeping position -Being stingy on changing tires, then turning around and letting them do so on the 2nd to last caution period (prior to that it was something vague like if you had an incident/tire blowout) -Barring any standard tires and letting people take risks like Eric said -Pit road stops while keeping position It just reeked of them trying desperately to set up a surprise winner for teams who historically have a bad pit crew record to make up for the crowd having to wait a long while and/or collect data for the tires
And they did it at the expense of the fans who were there. Most of us left because the race was considered official and a tornado warning was issued. Instead they decided to ignore it and just wait until the weather passed. Why not just wait till the weather passes on tracks with lights even though the race is considered official just to get the full length in?
I think Hendrick's success masks the problems that Chevy might be having right now. Think about all the drivers who haven't won races yet that people expect to win a race at some point. if they are Chevy Drivers, it's probably Chastain and Bowman, and that's it. The rest of them have not been nearly good enough to be considered potential winners. Spire is mostly being held up by Carson Hocevar (a rookie in 23rd), JTG is down almost 10 spots from what they were last year. RCR is getting decked hard, especially in recent weeks, and Kaulig is so bad that both cars are being beat in the owners points by Rick Ware's 51 (which is also within striking distance of surpassing Corey Lajoie). Ross Chastain hasn't won yet, and honestly hasn't really looked like he can win anywhere just yet. Suarez had an epic finish at Atlanta, but even he is frustrated with the performance he has had this year outside of that. Simply put, Chevy, without Hendrick, might be the worst of the three manufacturers in NASCAR right now.
They said the wipers don't work, but instead of one large slow wiper put two smaller wiper that goes faster like normal cars so it actually works then they could runs in the rain with the wet tires.
The lack of competitive pitstops and tire choice at the end irked me. It is almost as though NASCAR doesn't trust the teams and drivers to do their jobs in a safe, competitive manner.
I’m frustrated by the ongoing conversation about Ford's "struggles" when, in reality, Chevrolet has faced even greater challenges. Haley deserved a top 5 today. Idk what’s going on over at Rick Ware, but that car has been mad fast!
They're buying new motors at every race they think Justin's gonna be good at. Being on the Roush campus let's the RWR engineers go in and hand pick which of the available motors to buy.
It may not seem like much, but it's allot better than prior. When they were buying and running mostly used motors/equipment.
Coming from an FRM fan:
Todd Gilliland showed real speed today, running top 10 and sometimes even top 5 consistently today
Unlucky for Michael McDowell, he was running around the same as gilliland, would’ve been a top 10.
Prayers to you bro and your neighbors too
@@aidancobos5063 I think nobody was hurt, there was a bad one In Janesville and in Waterloo. Both were EF1
Busch fan here. I don't have much hope, but thanks for trying.
NASCAR in the "wet" us awesome! Just let the teams make their own choices on tires!

Something to also note about MTJ was just how bent that car was after the impact with Brad. That car looked rough after it
As for the Groovy Guage, I am with you almost 100% (maybe 87%) on my part due to the unknowns and NASCAR not afraid to get their feet "wet" pun intended.
Erik finishing 13th was much needed im just happy its finally a good race for this team. Been a frustrated fan since the injury just bad luck.
I’m still trying to figure out why New Hampshire Motor Speedway doesn’t have lights. I know they don’t run night races, but there have been several times when rain has affected a race and night was closing in. If there’s a reason why they don’t have lights, I’d like to know
When the track was built, there was an agreement with the town for the track to not hold events at night. That agreement is still in effect today.
@@dragonboss88 they need to change that. At least add lights for when the races run too long due to rain
Up until last year, the race was run about a month later, also.
if the race started at 1pm edt, it would be over just before the raim started.and this is coming from someone who lives in the redwoods!
It was great seeing Justin Haley battle for a Top 5/10, disappointed the result won't reflect how great of a day he had
It was a career day for a few drivers. Todd Gilliland, Justin Haley, and Josh Berry were all in legit contention for the win late. I think Gilliland was particularly impressive; the strategy working out landed them the track position, but then he ran with the best of 'em and looked like he belonged there.
Bell's run on the highside during those first couple laps on the rain tires was wicked
Elliot continues to be the only driver to finish top 20 in every race this season

He should be in the 21 or even a main Penske car
Thissssssss!!!!!
They need to bump him up. Need more popular racers will skill in better cars.
I feel like since the Vegas bubba hook, he’s been even more forgiving.

NBC's coverage was so much better than Fox. Other than a bit on Suarez there were no cut aways for fluff pieces. Really good analysis including speculating what the rain on the paint might do, which we saw when Gragson lost control.

I’m celebrating a Briscoe 2nd like a win I don’t care 😂

It was unusually quiet at the Magic Mile. We’ve saw big wide cars, pit strategists and more. And I’ll give a 78.9% ratings.
I wonder who would've won if Nascar didn't make every wet weather pit stop "non-competitive!"
If only Brad didn’t spin. I hope Berry gets that first win soon
Busch's last race at Martinsville at Gibbs, the team basically gave up right from the start, finished several laps down.
The race was like how EuroNascar does with their races
I think Chevy gives nearly all their support to Hendrick which is why the other Chevy teams aren’t so great. Seems like Hendrick is the only tier 1 team for Chevrolet.
CBell does well when there are rain delays. Unfortunately Busch had another abysmal day
When they went back out on the wet tires it looked like they were racing in slow motion
Yes 5 seconds per lap slower.
Can't argue with the way Larsen drove Hamlin, look where they both finished.
I also had a video analyzing the race and a whole page of notes too! I thought that the racing on Wet Weather tires was a huge success!
Whoop whoop for wet weather tires !!! Finally! Damp track and exciting race!
Man what happened to RCR? They have fallen off so hard this year. Between them and Kaulig they were 4 of the 5 slowest cars on the track for the majority of that first stage.

I’m so happy NHMS is getting good races now. I know all the management guys at the track and it’s my home race, and they all work so hard and to see the track getting the races it deserves is just awesome!
I enjoyed this race after the rain delay actually. Had a little bit of that unpredictability factor that we had at Bristol.
2:32 I was at the race and left at the red flag because NASCAR’s plan was not told to the fans.

We left when the rain started. We didn't think it would restart. I wish i could have stuck around. Sucks for Blaney
Why would you have stayed? A tornado warning was issued and the race was considered official. NASCAR screwed us over.
Any race where Denny Hamlin goes from 3rd, wants the race restarted, and finishes 24th is awesome. He's too stupid to ever win a championship.
I like what you said about Hamlin and I don't think he will ever get a Championship either. I bet that gives him nightmares!

Berry to the 21 would be cool. He may have a better car if he goes to Front Row. Idk, it’s a sillynseason
A 2hr delay when we have "wet weather tires" is a joke.
Put wipers on, make a REAL rain tire, and race.
What I wasn't big on was how race control just sort of did as they pleased
-Red flag allowed off strategy cars like the 34/38 to fuel/change to wets while keeping position
-Being stingy on changing tires, then turning around and letting them do so on the 2nd to last caution period (prior to that it was something vague like if you had an incident/tire blowout)
-Barring any standard tires and letting people take risks like Eric said
-Pit road stops while keeping position
It just reeked of them trying desperately to set up a surprise winner for teams who historically have a bad pit crew record to make up for the crowd having to wait a long while and/or collect data for the tires
I’m curious if the past rain incident in New Hampshire made NASCAR hesitant to make a decision earlier and made drivers keep the wets on

It may be time for RCR to find a new VP of competition. I feel like Andy Petree not getting it done.
