People tend to only focus on the harsh vocals and not on the actual music. No matter how many times I play bands like Trivium and Killswitch that has a ton of clean vocals, they ignore it until the harsh vocals come in then go "this is why I don't like metal it's nothing but yelling". And I really do believe we live in a musically dumb generation. People want simplicity and catchy, and there's nothing wrong with simple and catchy, but it doesn't give much room for complex music creators.
