This Anglophile American thanks God every day for having given us Sir Edward Elgar. When my time comes the last things I want to hear are the Adagio from Symphony #1 and the Angel’s Farewell from Gerontius
I love the part where the choir and orchestra reaches its grand zenith and crescendo and sing as one "..... We have crowned our King." Its breath taking and a beautiful melody :)
I can only think of when James May said "Watch this" as he drove his Amphibious car into the water. right before "Hark, a mighty nation" James yells "Brace! Brace!"
"Land of Hope and Glory Mother of the Free How shall we extol thee Who are born of thee? Wider still, and wider Shall thy bounds be set; God, who made thee mighty Make thee mightier yet! Dear Land of Hope, thy hope is crowned God make thee mightier yet! On Sov'ran brows, beloved, renowned Once more thy crown is set Thine equal laws, by Freedom gained Have ruled thee well and long; By Freedom gained, by Truth maintained Thine Empire shall be strong Thy fame is ancient as the days As Ocean large and wide: A pride that dares, and heeds not praise A stern and silent pride Not that false joy that dreams content With what our sires have won; The blood a hero sire hath spent Still nerves a hero son"
This is a very good performance of the Ode. Admittedly, I find that in the first part of this section the tone is not quite as solid and firm. The chorus is strong, however, but I do miss the extra military band parts that give the climax its needed splendour. As such it would be good to turn to the EMI recording with the late Sir Philip Ledger conducting the King's College Chapel Choir and the Cambridge University Music Society. It is easily obtainable on RUclips.
Tremendous. This, or a version of this, rather than God Save the Queen/King should be our national anthem. It also dispenses with all that "Wider still and wider" jingoistic stuff that Elgar disliked.
Only my opinion, but the version recorded with Dame Felicity Lott as the soprano soloist knocks this performance sideways. It's absolutely tremendous and I heartily recommend it to anyone who has listened to the performance given here.
We have crowned our King! God Save The King!
Extremely powerful music. I want to live in a Britain that Elgar saw in the early 1900s. Proud and free. How far we have fallen.
so very much has been lost

The best version 🇫🇮🤝🇬🇧

This is the most powerful song I’ve heard in a long time
Yes, love that big crescendo, we have crowned our King. The heavens seem to open
Its a beautiful finale. The band's fanfares add so much regality to ot. Elgar was a master orchestror
Beautiful! God save the union, and God save the queen!
Thaks elgar

Wow! I think my computer just got colonized! 😂 Fantastic rendition!
GOD SAVE THE KING!!!
Long live Britain!
Thank you very much for uploading the 6 parts of this splendid performance of this (seldom heard today) work of Elgar.
Just stupendous, don’t knock it. I haven’t heard this in a long time and this is just wonderful.
Glory to the Empire 🇫🇮🤝🇬🇧
All of Elgar's music should be Britain's national anthem.
Parry has a few good tunes also. :)
A peace of Heaven
very very nice.
My Kimchi cabbage just turned into Black tea leaf.
Cool! With this tune, I congratulate the #Classof2015! Thanks for posting and sharing!
British Empire forever!
There are some splendid alternative lyrics that could be utilised but its not the song I have known all my life. It was 10 years ago.
Great music!

Great suggestion - thanks!

Brava!!!
May Edward VII rest in peace

This version can’t really work since it’s very much written for a coronation, but it is a brilliant version!
Both versions were written by A.C. Benson. This version was written for the Coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.
Proud to be English Canadian and know that this is mine to defend
Toute la grandeur de l'Angleterre éternelle incarnée par sa monarchie.

How right you are!
I wonder if this will be played on the King's Coronation
What a great display of patriotism. And chauvinism!
God save King Charles!
