- People collect all kinds of things; beer cans, marbles, stamps, and pokemon cards are examples of just a few. Did you know, however, that Sigmund Freud even had theories about why we collect things? There have been psychological theories about collecting since the inception of psychology. On today's episode, we will look at why we are psychologically driven to collect things.

Displaying is key. I don't understand ppl who just chuck them into storage.
Totally agree with the addictive biology. I'm an addict and a collector.
Thanks for this topic for your discussion today. I collect dolls and yes there are stigmas and positive vibes as well from people who do not always understand.
My husband recommended this to me and I really enjoyed it. I did not know your channel. And the discussion of Dopamine pathways, explain why addictive personality and behavior is so very common in people with ADHD, who have lack of dopamine. I would love to hear discussion about that if you are ever interested in make an episode about it.
Russel Barkley gives great explanations in some of his older videos about the correlation between brain development, psychology of learning/developmental psychology and the lack of impulse control in individuals with ADHD. I think the decreased capacity of brains with ADHD to control impulses and to dampen strong emotions, associated with the lack of dopamine in these brains makes for a powerful and terrible combination of the conditions that harbor addictive behaviour, specially related to collecting and buying items.
Yes, Dr. Barkley has been the best in the field of ADHD for a long time. He is retired now but does still have an active RUclips channel. Thank you for listening.
Very enlightening, thanks for posting!

Mike you forgot to link us the company who makes displaying shelves and other thing for your collection... I can't find it on google. Is it MagicAce? Or Magic Case? Or Magicase?
The place he gets his display cases is Moducase and here is their website us.moducase.xyz/
Great discussion, I feel like I’m very much an anti-collector, I can’t stand clutter or excessive decoration and I actually tried to start a movie collection once but I just felt like it was a huge waste of space and resources almost like I value resource efficiency or personal space far more then my personal wants or desires.
Liked it 👍🏽
