- AEW's 2023 was quite something and it could be said for AEW that 2023 was AEW's WORST year. AEW this year moved to 3 weekly shows and monthly PPVs meaning we got to see a lot more matches and some of those matches were just not very good and that’s what we’re here to discuss today, so like and subscribe and join me as we discuss the worst AEW matches of 2023!

I'd say another bad match was Chris Jericho vs. Adam Cole at Double or Nothing. It was very slow-paced, Jericho was really slow, and botched some moves, and they threw Sabu in there for no reason, because he was only involved for a minute. A truly let down of a match
Also don’t forget that their match was unsanctioned, but ended with ref stoppage
That match was dogshit.
That was bad, as was the mixed doubles match with them, Saraya, and Britt.

This is not that looked down up on because it was Adam Cole’s first PPV match coming back to wrestling. And Jericho is very safe in the ring. Not everything has to be perfect.
The crazy thing is people tried to defend these. Instead of being open to criticism when it's bad, they attack others claiming people just hate watch AEW.
probably the way it's phrased...like maybe they say AEW doesn't know what they're doing. They're attacking the company as a whole instead of just the match.

It’s bad with the Army of the Dead match back in WWE, and it’s awful when AEW had the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Match as well.
It was bad, however it made me laugh, also it was for charity so I can't hate on the contribution it brought. I understand it was bad but imo it was so bad it was funny
It proved how hypocritical wrestling fans are. They think it’s bad for WWE to do stuff like that, but when other companies do it, they praise them.
IMPACT once had a Wolf Creek Match ... every promotion gets a horror movie hardcore match.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre match was just ridiculous man, but of course the AEW marks liked it, but if WWE did something like this they would’ve bitched about it nonstop.
Poor Jeff Hardy man….if he had just kept his shit together he could’ve at least been viewed as a star in the WWE, not doing this stupid crap in AEW

The Texas Chainsaw massacre deathmatch was funny as hell. Yes it was bad but in a funny way, also it was for charity so i couldn't take it seriously, as a great bald man once said, "Goofy wrestling for life".

For a lot of AEW wrestlers and fans it literally is. They love the ironic inside jokes and 4th wall breaking mockery of wrestling. AEW is a postmodern caricature of a once great industry.
1. Everything about the Outsiders was terrible. The whole angle had "we have NWO at home" energy. No one involved was likable (for non-thirst reasons) except Shida, since Saraya isn't terribly interesting at AEW, and there is absolutely no way I'd see the dentist as a babyface. Speaking of...
2. Britt Baker moves worse than my elderly mom with degenerative disc disorder, and her & her fans deciding that the best way to build hype was by throwing terrible fat jokes at Taya. And the Lockjaw remains the worst finisher ever, especially since Britt is COMPELLED to eye-f*c the hardcam every time. She's always bad, but here she was at her worst on & off screen.
3. I still have some love for Double J, but matches like this are hurting that. And watching the Hardys anymore is just painful. And the horror elements were just embarrassing; yeah, they were required by WBD, but they would have been better served in a cinematic match and not a regular in-ring one with zero build-up except the announcers saying the name over & over.
You basically hit on a lot of the reasons I've given up on AEW after this year, and adding an 80yo man doesn't signal any hope for improvement.
Saraya vs Jamie Hader was much worse than Soho vs Shida because its the Victory Road 2011 portrayed by women.
Since AEW has started a lot of wrestlers haven’t improved or just do the same moves they’ve always done …
They had some experienced agents/wrestlers in the back who could give advice if they’d listen ..
Jeff vs Jeff was just supposed to be a comedy match. It wasn't great, but it wasn't the worst AT ALL
As a huge fan of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre I loved every second of that match. As a wrestling fan I hated every second of that match.

Lol. He named 3 matches for all of 2023. From a company that gave us Worst Match Of The Year candidates 5 to 7 times each week for 52 weeks. That “Ninja-Dragon-Gaiden-Japanese dude on a 10 speed match” for example.
To be very honest and as an AEW Sympathizer: AEW should cut Thun.. Hum Rampage, sorry.. Change AEW Collision to ROH Collision and have the two brands go at one another from time to time.

I agree. Right now AEW just has too much TV time and it's even worse when you throw ROH into the mix. I like the idea of having AEW and ROH work like the WWE's brand split, with each getting their own show.

I know there are plenty of fans of Women’s wrestling, but I’ve just never been invested in it. It seems like the worst matches every year are women’s matches, and there is certainly not enough talent in the US for every promotion to have a women’s division. To each there own, but it’s always been a channel changer/piss break for me.
If you're doing the worst matches of AEW, you missed a few hundred. Plus any matched refereed by the atrocious Aubrey Edwards.
Too many people try to copy Eddie Guerrero or other past wrestlers. And it comes off as cringe and embarrassing.
Should do the worst angles of the year. AEW had a few stinkers. Mostly the Rodrick Strong and Adam Cole stuff. So cringy that stuff was.
I don't know what was up with Soho in that match, but she was awful, absolutely awful. It's sad because if you watched their match on rampage, it was a solid little outing. I don't know if Ruby was off, or she was pouting, or she was having a bad day, but she wasn't good.

Swerve vs Hangman was the worst match I've ever seen.
I wouldn't say it's the worst, but it definitely felt like someone involved really wanted to show off how "badass" they could be in the most eye-rolling way possible.
What do you expect.. this company is pretty full of athletes past their prime… or young “talent” that is rough hewn.
They should focus on their own developmental brand, instead of waiting to poach tired botchy stragglers from WWE. Competition is good for business! And ultimately great for wresting fans. But AEW seems to be falling apart.
If we have to compare, AEW's chainsaw is 12-year-old humor. WWE's use of candy corn for "funny" is 6-year-old humor. Not sure who wins. 🤷♀
