Wow!!!! You must have this car out of the rust belt! I think I have 2-3 years before looking at upgrading or replacing rear sub frame and bushings for the rear end!
Fortunately, I'm on the Westcoast where winters are milder. If you have to start thinking about replacing your sub frame, have a look and access the rest of the under carriage. There might be more rust than just at the sub frame? Thanks for watching my videos and keep on wrenching!

Is it easy to feed the new cable back through? (from underneath the car to behind the handbrake)
Yeah, cable goes through a conduit. You should be able to get it first try.
