    Method 2 was the same as method 1 . You didn’t do anything different other than check the clearance between the stops on the callipers.
    What would you have done if they hadn’t been equal ?

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  4 года назад +1

      Most likely it would be sign of a bad caliper, unless cable is badly stretched.

  • @gregknight5141

    I feel like mine needs doing but cant be bothered taking wheels off to do it "properly". Will it work to adjust a little bit a time until it does come to the top in about 3 clicks?

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  6 лет назад

      Yeah, some people do that. Don't overtighten it though! Whole point of that dual lever by the nut is to even out tension to both calipers. If both of your calipers are in good condition, that should work.

    5:56 these little things that you measure the gap on. Can I measure the same parts on both sides of the vehicle to find out if my car is braking enough on both sides? Basically: is this the way to see if it is equal braking on both sides?
    Im asking because I took my car to road safety inspection and both wheels on the left are not braking enough with the handbrake.

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  3 года назад

      Sorry, both wheels on the left - do you mean front left end rear left? How does handbrake affect front wheel?
      Or did I misunderstand?

    how did you make the cables become equal? I don't understand? the caliper already had a gap between the lever and the stop? you took the gap away then put the gap back again? I don't understand?
    I put 2 new genuine handbrake cables and it still goes up 10 clicks and the handbrake doesn't really work

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  7 лет назад

      That metal arch by handbrake lever (inside car) equalises pulling power for both cables. If you have new genuine cables installed correctly and you still can't get it right - it's likely to be faulty caliper(s). Unfortunately it's not the best design of VW.
      Yes - I loosened it and pulled back to have that gap in the video.

    • @amana1480
      @amana1480 7 лет назад

      Before you loosened it, the cables were not equal. But after you tightened it, the cables became equal? How did this happen? You already had a slight gap between the lever and then stop, so I dont understand why you took the gap away, then put it back?

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  7 лет назад

      When I opened that adjusting nut - it was loose (I could have tighten it behind the scene, I don't remember by now, to show the idea that it needs to get loose first) + different camera angle later. But it doesn't matter - the purpose of the video is to show how it works. I took the gap away and tightened it again, because that's the procedure explained in both manuals I had about it - you loosen it to make sure that before you start tighten it they start from position of touching those stops. Cables inside the car don't have to be equal, the point of the equalising arch/lever - if the cables have slightly different length, it pulls them accordingly, because they supposed to have same resistance from levers on calipers, therefore inside where you tighten that nut they may have different length.

    • @wawayltd

      It's pretty normal for brake disc to be burning hot even after normal driving. But if everything is new, I'm not sure what can make your wheel tight. I would consult to some mechanic.

He decided to clean some rust from the house where caliper sits/ fitted. He spraid brake cleaner as well. The wheel started spining much better than before. Im still not convinced it was the rust as it was only a tiny bit rust. I am still puzzled. I drove 55 miles and checked the wheel its still hotter than the other side but slight better. • @wawayltd

      If you mean that lever on caliper, if it's loose, most likely you need whole new caliper. They sell them remanufactured. Maybe there's a way how to fix it at home, try to search. Personally, I'm lazy - I would go for new caliper. I may be wrong too..

    hi how are you? today I finally managed to clean egr on my audi a3 1.9tdi. it's a 55 reg. when I checked the exhaust pipe it looked full of black sticky carbon . it seems to me that the exhaust manifold need to be removed and washed or cleaned with something strong like Mr muscle.
