I LOVE FlyLady!!!! For my 2 kids still at home I broke their rooms up into 5 zones and they do 1 zone a day.....closet, dresser,bookcase, bed, toys.....they never have to spend a full 15 mins and it keeps those rooms under control!! As they are getting older I'm letting them have more of the deep cleaning g in there as well....I still go in and deep clean so I know it's done my way lol but it has been a great way for them to be responsible and I feel it's teaching them too. Love your channel!!
Thank you! I fell off the Flylady bandwagon. Pulled up this video, and checked out the flylady website again while I was listening to you. I then realized I had only 18 mins to wait until the pumpkin loaf in the oven would be finished so upstairs I went...and cleaned the bathroom, took out the garbage and recycling in those 15 mins. Then the oven timer went off. Perfect timing! Thank you!
I break my weekly home blessing hour up into an one extra daily chore throughout the week and it works great. Then the weekends are free to play and have family time. Flylady is the best system out there, it WORKS!
I adopted the idea from flylady, but customized it very much. I just can't stop doing something in my home for 15 minutes and then stop even it is not "finished", it just drives me nuts. So I do what I have to do (sometimes it's just 1 day a week for 2 hours, sometimes 4 days a week for a few minutes, depending on the zones) but finish it. It really works for me and my husband (we haven't kids yet and I work part-time) but I know that this could change right in the moment I become pregnant :)
I also organized the zones differently:
1.Entrance, hall, stairs
2. Kitchen
3. Bathroom, toilet, home office
4. Master Bedroom, (Kids bedroom), closets
5. Living room, balcony
6. Basement, attic, garage and garden
As long as it works for us I am totally fine with my modifications :)

FlyLady really saved my sanity about ten years ago. I had a stillborn baby and my friend gave me a FlyLady feather duster instead of flowers :-)

I never really, fully, understood FLYLADY but after watching this video, I understand it a lot more. I love how you explain how I can make it for my individual schedule. It still seems very over whelming to me, but you answered a lot of questions that I had with flylady. Thanks Kimmy!

I fell off the Kimmy wagon. Your motivational Mondays kept me motivated to keep my living spaces clean. Now they aren't so clean... I am getting back on the wagon! Thanks for the motivation!
I did tidy tutor university with Kathy Roberts. Similar system, With Zones and such. She started with sidetracked home executives too. She has an awesome support system. Love her. Has RUclips videos with tips and such as well. Really helped this organizationally challenged girl out. 😃 I find I like getting zones out of the way when I can by grouping it in a day... especially on busy weeks.
This was really helpful, I work full time outside the home so everyday cleaning would be tough. But day off crank it all out! Love this!
When our 8 children were growing up each had a room to pick up. I guess we were doing zones and had no idea that was what it was..lol....but we did what we called a 15 min pick up.....worked great. Everyone could give 15 minutes without complaining because when it was done it was done. Love your videos.....keep them coming!
I'm in Zone 3 too! The bathroom and One other, which this month is my college age son's room, specifically, purging last years college stuff that he left in his storage bins and repacking for this year's needs. He's really got this down himself since he's done it many times. Thanks for sharing!

You are totally responsible for me going all FlyLady again LOL. I needed to, because I've just moved into a new house, so my routines have been all messed up. I'm using FlyLady to help me get organised again. Feeling a lot less bewildered now, and I'm loving the new app.
I think you did a great job explaining this. And you are the first person I've heard address the fact that some people may not be able to zone clean daily. Which is my challenge since I work away from home 45-50 hours of the week. I do meal planning and prep, but my evenings are pretty short just doing dinner, kitchen cleanup and some basics. We have grown children now, but we have 4 large dogs! It's great you have your kids involved, my boys always had a chore list...I miss their help!!! Thank you for your simple explanation of how the Zone Cleaning is supposed to work! I agree that the Fly Lady website is super confusing. My brain works better when I have a complete overview of how the Zone and Weekly Blessing cleaning is supposed to work. The info on the website and watching other videos about it was leaving me confused and overwhelmed. I am so glad I found your channel and this video is super helpful to me.
LOVED this video Kimmy! I have a chronic illness so I started Fly Lady a few years ago, and loved it. I find housework so overwhelming and get a bit crazy and try and clean everything and eventually burn out. I, like you, tried adjusting it a bit but it just doesn't work so I'm going to jump back into it properly! I like the way you went through your way of doing it, and I think I'm going to try the 1 day a week zone cleaning because I found it too hard trying to fit it in everyday! Thanks :)
I am starting to implement this, as soon as the kids start school.....MORE FOCUS with mo children....But I was thinking about working them around MY weekly personal schedule....keep the videos coming......LOVE THE ACCOUNTABILITY

Wow i totally forgot about Flylady!! I remember shinning my sink when I first found her way back when! I have 2 weeks till kid number 3 arrives so I am trying to get things together and decluttering. Thanks for sharing this! I just went thru and printed my cleaning zones to get my household binder in order! Next I need to get my Weekly Blessings list done! I have a 19 year old that said if I print it she will help while I am busy with the toddler and newborn.
You have convinced me to start Fly Lady!!! My condo is small but I struggle with deep cleaning and being overwhelmed. Zone cleaning and adding it to my planner will hopefully help!!
THANK YOU for explaining this so well!! I have been perusing the fly lady website for about a year, and have only gleaned little tips, but could not figure out how to actually implement her plan. Your explanation was so much more helpful!! I took notes between this video and Flylady Kat's beginner video and I think I finally have an actual plan to get started tomorrow. This makes me want to try fly lady again. Years ago I tried it and I thought their website was a mess and the amount of emails I got was insane. But you highlighting the helpful portions really helps! I won't sign up for emails and will just go look for the challenges and zone info. Thanks!
After watching your video last week I loved the concept of having certain days assigned to areas of my home. I went to the website, signed up for the emails and oh my goodness, I had to cancel! I was getting 5 to 7 emails A DAY and most of them were ADs to buy cleaning products, or her merchandise. I understand that we all want to make a living and this is her way, but I signed up for tips and schedules, not to be bombarded with so many buying emails.
But anyways, this was a GREAT video and I am going to try a few of these to get me started on my own cleaning routine now that the kiddos have went back to school.

I'm with you on that! Signed up yesterday and until now I have already received 6 mails .. That's just too much for me to filter out the mails that really would be important for the cleaning thing!

You did great at explaining the zones. I have to try this method because sometimes my ADHD gets in the way of my decluttering and cleaning. I stress about what to do first. I like the 15 minutes cleaning times too. I am going to try this, thanks for sharing.
I just spent the last 30 minutes on Fly ladies website, I am excited to try and I am all about baby steps. Clean sink here we go!.

I'm joining you but I find doing the weekly home blessing on Friday is better for our family. Going into the weekend with the house clean for me is like, *sigh* and I can go into the weekend relaxing.
Also she has the zone cleaning in PDF format that way we don't have to copy and paste. Let's FLY!
That's a good idea, I usually do mine on sunday afternoon but I feel like i'm wasting half of the weekend on cleaning instead of having fun with my family :( I'm going to try friday and see how that works for us!

Kimmy , I enjoyed this video so much but I’m a bit confused because my understanding of zone cleaning is that she recommends a total of 15 minutes per zone and knocking down the task list as fast as you can. I’m new to fly lady though ( just a week in) and setting my habits. I like it because it’s so fast and yet our home is looking so much better! I heard you referencing this way for most but was confused because of the 15 minute appliance cleaning for the kitchen

I'm doing this with you for sure. i like having the home blessing on mondays. that way while my son is at school I can tackle quite a bit. he's still too little to quite grasp having his own chores besides picking up his toys and help me make his bed.

this is so useful. one thing I been doing as a small family of 4
every grocery sunday. when I put stuff in my fridge I take away the gross amd expired things right away while I put brand new fresh things thay are not expired
and I always every night before bed. do a fast broom and a fast washing appliances.

Have you ever read the Fly Lady's book about first place to start clean your sink. Make it shine. For someone who feels overwhelmed it is a really good book.

I like this "zone cleaning" thing. My house is pretty small and it's only my, hubby and 3 cats. Plus 2 of my rooms are for my business. We sell Lawn Boy mowers and parts on eBay. I will try this method as I am getting over whelmed with all the work from house cleaning, errands, packing, shipping, listing..... Thanks!

Michelle Bush I just followed you on Google Plus... maybe that might work. I'm not very proficient in Google plus. I don't know that I have any amazing advice for you, flylady-wise, but I have been using her program for over a decade.

I love this idea! I started doing my own version of a zone cleaning a few months ago and it has helped so much. I am going to checkout Flylady to see how she does it. It is still a lot of work for me because I have a good sized house and it's just me. It is a lot of house to take care of on my own. Maybe this will help! Thank you so much!

I'll be joining too!! But not fully until next week or the week after lol .. My excuses lol my brother passed away at the beginning of the month and I'm having to pack up his apartment and trash and store and some things are coming to my home (not a lot just bibles and other books I don't want to get damaged in storage) and then the next week I have dental work and tooth pulled and may not be a good time .. Shoot I may as week just start at the first of the month.. I've been watching videos and working on a routine for me and keep coming back to yours. I just have to switch a few rooms/days. Do you pre-plan which 4 tasks you are going to work on each month per zone? Like you mentioned you cleaned the outside of your appliances this month but will clean the inside next month. I'm just getting started with one 30-minute zone cleaning day each week. So... it could take me several months to work through each zone list BUT some tasks will need to repeated sooner than that time frame. I'm wondering if some tasks will never get done. I hope that makes sense. Or, per usual, am I overthinking it? lol. Thanks for your help :)

Kimmy, you look so peaceful in this video! I can tell the flylady system is helping out with anxiety. So awesome. Question-- do the kids have to clean up other people's messes as long as they are within the zone? For example, if one child leaves toys and dishes in the living room but it's the other child's turn in that zone, are they allowed to go back to the first child and ask them to come get their toys and dishes? Does it cause issues or "bossiness"? Thank you

I'd LOVE to know her answer as well!That's definitely something we struggle with,since my kids cannot EVER remember to pick up after themselves.😒😒
Natalie Thomas I believe that each child should pickup after themselves daily. example, Zoey was in the playroom ans scattered toys, she then leaves the room to play outside. the parent before allowing outside play should make Zoey pickup and put away all the toys. Zone cleaning for the responible person would make it much easier to tidy and swish and swipe all flat surfaces. That is my thoughts on the subject. And everyone throws away trash after themselves.
I absolutely love this idea...My only problem is the mopping of just one room..Doesn't the dirt from the other rooms go into that one room?? Of course I have paws all over my floors!!
I can't never get the whole house vacuumed and mopped and it drives me crazy 😜!!! My ANXIETY!! Is bad!! I'm very OCD health challenged to this my be the answer to My issues!! Thx so much for sharing will definitely check out

I'm going to do this, but I have a question, I broke a bone in my back in June and I can't get on my hands and knees to deep clean the floors, but I have a steam cleaner can that be used instead. I enjoy your motivation and now I'm going to watch the blessings video. Thank you for this video and I'm going to print off what each zone is. Have an awesome blessed week
