      Can anybody show me the romaji for the place holder so I can pronounce it right

    • @sicko_ani
      @sicko_ani 9 лет назад +1

      Jale Anderson if you put the placeholder at the end of the syllable, you have to pronounce it as "ng", like in "안녕" (annyeong), but the "g" sound isn't clear. it's like you want to say it, but you end up not saying it. if it's at the beginning of the syllable, then it has no sound. the korean name of the placeholder is "ieung" (이응).

    the way i differentiate ㅓㅗ ㅜ is this:
    ㅓ “aw” as in like the *a in “y’all”
    ㅗ “o” as in like the *o in “comb” (+ comb OVER because the vertical line is over the horizontal one)
    ㅜ “oo” as in like the *o in “tomb” (+ tomb because the vertical line is below the horizontal one, like something buried UNDER the ground)
    i had a hard time differentiating the sounds because they’re all romanized with an O so I came up with my own way to remember them
    (yes i know romanization is bad but whatchu gon do)

      +Kira Jackson romanization isn't good when learning other languages. You cant pronounce things correctly when romanized. try and explain all of the french,Spanish or German letters only using English letters. it doesn't work. it is better to just hear a letter and say it as you hear it. what I do is get a piece of paper and write down the character 10-20 times will saying the character repeatedly.

    • @alexanderdrechsel6858
      @alexanderdrechsel6858 6 лет назад +9

      my point was not to understand everybody. Take Korean and English as an example. English is a pretty "brusque" language. If someone refers to you with "you" .. you don't know if it's polite or not. In Korean you do.
      Someone who only speaks English, will never understand the importance of this fact in society. In fact when I watched my first KDrama, I was confronted with a scene, where somebody called someone else and said "thank you for your help" (English sub) and the other guy was wondering, why he had to be this rude. It was something I couldn't understand, until I started learning the language and dealt with their culture.
      You might not understand/share everybodies world, but if you learn more languages, you will be more open minded to people who "think differently"

Learning Chinese was easy form what I can recall, but Korean is another thing. Maybe it's because I'm teaching myself.
