    Sir, I must thank you for everything! Since last year, I got you in my recommended, but I never watched it because thought my life was about something else. But, this year, as I was facing depression due to poor career choices, I decided to watch your videos about the British accent, since I wanted to talk in that accent (it sounds classy to me). After watching it, I decided to watch your other videos and, for the first time in my life, I thought I had found what I wanted to do with my life. Then, I made some researches about acting and got involved in it, even though it hasn't been much yet, I feel so happy and motivated, more than I have ever felt in my entire life, and I plan on doing a full 180 in my life and start my career as an actor (as a student for the moment though). Thank you for everything, sir John Windsor-Cunningham, were it not for you, no one knows how much I would be struggling in life trying to find happiness! Thank you so much!

I have to deliver Queen Margaret's Brave Warriors monologue from Henry VI Part 3 for an exam next week, but I knew it wasn't quite truthful enough because I've never been a Queen nor taunted a mortal enemy with the blood of his dead son but you gave me an I idea how I can make it about me using substitution - yep there was someone at school I hated that much. This character also creates a symbolism of myself and I enjoy expressing myself rather than faking scenarios. Also, I will be presenting this monologue on Thursday so I will do my best as I can.

      Well, thanks for kind words. What I say is easy to say though, and finding 'THAT' monologue ain't so easy. If you give it TIME, to study it ENOUGH, you may be able to work out that a speech IS like you, that you are like Macbeth because you would do what your wife (and witches) tell you, or like Ophelia because you really know how loneliness feels. But the time that takes, to work out that a line is about loneliness, or obedience, is every day for weeks when you are rehearsing with a whole company, and months when working on your own. So if you DO the study then acting is (in the end) quite easy. But only then. Only then. John Windsor-Cunningham

    Hi Sir! I just wanted to thank you for you're incredible acting videos that never fail to enlighten me. As soon as I saw the notification that you were posting again I nearly screamed with excitement. But basically I have a question question. I have read that an attribute of great actors is that they're able to take on any role (chameleon style), even if the role dosen't necessarily fit their personality. Furthermore I'm worried that if I go for roles that are specific to me, I may fall into the 'type-actor' category. Does anyone have any advice regarding how you can use monologues that are relatable without becoming a type actor? Thank you very much!!!!

    • @NewYorkActingCoach
      @NewYorkActingCoach  2 года назад +5

      There's no such thing as a 'type' really, not if you think seriously. It's like judging a person before you know them. It's a mistake. All parts are either like you , in some small hidden way, or not. Search and you'll find it. It's just as people who don't know you may sometimes say "I never expected you to be so angry" or "I never expected you to be good with children" . . there are dozens of parts inside some of us, and IFTHERE ARE ONLY ONE OR TWO 'TYPES' as you call them, just give them as full a life as possible.

      Hmm. I can only answer your question in my own way. Acting is meant to be done with other people, when you are on your own you should be studying lines to do with somebody else, an actor-friend, or for an audition, or for an acting-coach (it doesn't have to be me, just find the best who is willing to see you. If you do not have lines t study then you should be reading 200 plays and screenplays, and watching a million videos. And studying very, very, very, very hard, as the actors you compete with for jobs will have done that and you want to be better than them. John Windsor-Cunningham

      You might consider connecting a few short speeches of Sally Brown's if you can't find anything else. . John Windsor-Cunningham

    Can you make a video or explain how to improve facial expressions?

      Hmm, I think the subject is a sign of inexperience, although I know one or two teachers do talk about "expressions". If you feel right the expression will appear. If you 'make' the expression then the feeling will not be there and it will look fake. I have coached Oscar nominees, one Oscar winner, and dozens of actor in various tv series and none of them ever ever ever ever ever ever talks about 'expressions. Get INSIDE the part.
