Honesty, purity and dignity in every note. No rushing and showing off. Just honest, clean brilliant and artistic performance. Not just a caprice, but a piece of beautiful music that you can't help but enjoy every second of it. Humble, tough and highest standard artist he was! Thank you for posting!
Also the sound. We've been fed way too many perfect and super fast renditions of this magnificient caprice. At this point any other recording only gives me anxiety
Kogan is and always will be for me the example of perfect technique. Nobody else even come close to his perfection. You can disagree with his artistic choices but on paganini he's unmatched. Solid gorgeous sound and rock solid left hand make his musicality something that comes as naturally as water from a mountain. For any young violinist (such as me) aspiring to play this caprice this recording is a treasure and an inspiration on how to make simply music, without faces and weird movements, just rock solid thecnique and raw passion.
I totally agree with what you're saying. I think Ms. Hilary Hahn is the other violinist I think of in this way in regards to perfect technique. Both Hahn and Kogan have a "laser beam" type sound which comes from their similar technique- completely saturated with sound and resonance.

May be the greatest single recording of #4 ever. Intonation is mind blowing.
And his Phrasing. My god.

@@diegeigergarnele7975 yes those lower neighbors in 10ths, two to a bow, he sings all of them (like mm. 49 and 70-73)
@@orangebetsy yes, we are witnessing what Paganini caprice 4 sounded like before it became an elite Olympic sport Like the 100 yard dash
How nice to finally hear that someone as great as Kogan takes the middle section at a pleasant tempo.
exactly!
Yes. He plays it in one tempo, as it is written in the music
