What Your Acne Means By Location According to A Dermatologist

  • Although little research has been made on why acne develops only in certain areas of the skin, there are reasons to refer to acne face mapping.

Based on Ayurvedic principles, a 3,000-year-old natural system of medicine that originated in India, it is believed that acne indicates that your innate ability to detoxify is having trouble eliminating harmful substances in the body that may contribute to acne.

While these are great clues to refer to when managing your acne, acne does not have a one-size-fits-all solution. The reason for your acne can be different from someone else's and it's best to consult a specialist when it comes to addressing your acne.

Keep watching to learn more about acne face mapping!

Oh god, just before or during my period I either get clear skin to die for, or I get the crapmend of the stick and I just flare up everywhere over and over again. I used to never get acne, like one zit every 4-6 months (maybe a little of those tiny tiny ones) but that’s all. Now it’s all over the place and I hate it. 😭 it takes forever to go away if it ever does, and by the time it’s almost healed and the dark spots are gone, my period is here again and either it just starts over or goes away! I don’t understand it and I’ve tried everything but birth control. (I’m 38 and I just want to live my life dang it!)

What helped me with pimples and acne:
    》 avoiding sugar and milk
》only wash your face with an very gentle cleanser or in the morning only with water and a face cloth > after that use non-comedogenic sunscreen
》before you go to bed wash your face with your gentle cleanser and then use a toner which is skin-soothing and has a pH value of 5.5. After that you can put on a water based moistruizer or some castor oil (it actually won't clog your pores)
》don't touch your face (you cannot imagine how dirty your hands are actually)
    》drink enough water
    》don't wear heavy make up
》 put your hair up in a bun or something when you go to sleep cause the products in your hair will go on your face in the night when you move around sleeping in your bed
》try putting chamomile tea on your face
I hope I didn't forget anything and wish you good luck with your skin ❤🌷

I’ve dealt with cheek acne for years just as you described and I found out it was entirely hormonal. Went thru so many restrictive diets, pillow case covers, overall lifestyle changes and they’ve don’t nothing for my skin. Went to see a dermatologist and found out it was hormonal which explained the flare ups around my period. You’re better off consulting with a doctor or derm and getting a prescription, trust me it’ll save you the headache and money. Topical creams/solutions, isotretinoin, tretinoin, anti bacterial oral prescriptions, and birth control all help target hormonal acne. Please don’t listen to what people say about lifestyle changes because majority of acne is hormonal and rarely is it lifestyle-based or dietary. I’m speaking from years of experience, don’t wanna see someone go thru the same struggle I went thru 💕

Before assuming there’s something that’s actually wrong with you, consider evaluating your skin care, hygiene, diet, and activity level. If you aren’t showering every day, aren’t washing your face, and aren’t exercising at least a Bit, these are the main reasons.
Sugar and excess dairy have a lot of anecdotal evidence that they can cause acne, and to a slower extent: ultra processed foods. While anecdotal, I’ve noticed when I moderate or stop eating sugar I don’t break out as bad so I tend to lean towards sugar being a cause.
Then look at skin care(part of hygiene tbh). You should wash your face 2-3x per day, have a moisturizer, exfoliate about 2-3x a week, and ideally use a sunscreen. I am not someone who actively uses sunscreen, but i recently began having an actual skin care routine and it’s been a big aid in reducing acne.
I use a gentle cleanser in the morning that has some vitamins like vitamin C and ginseng. At night I use a salycilic acid cleanser. Every other day I’ll use a gentle exfoliant(I have very oily skin so I use it like 4x a week). When I am done with my shower/washing my face, I’ll dry it and add a body lotion as a moisturizer (likely not the best product since they have actual facial moisturizers, but it’s still worked fine for me). If I’m breaking out especially bad(usually when I overindulge in sugary stuff tbh), I’ll add a benzolperoxide (I believe that’s the ingredient, but I can’t remember the exact name for sure). I apply it and once it dries I add the lotion.
Even with this somewhat janky skin care routine, I still have had positive results so just establishing one if you don’t already use one will help

Ladies, relax. It's not a "hormone imbalance." It's normal hormone fluctuations that cause hard chin pimples. It's not something that needs to be fixed. It's normal to have a monthly surge of acne on your jawline. No chemical will get in deep enough to prevent or treat it. It's so deep, and usually doesn't come to a head.
Contraceptive pill that targets acne is a great choice. Also try anti-inflammatory gel like Freederm. A colloidial patch will help remove oedema.

I had acne on my cheeks and chin years ago. I google this was a “hormonal beard” of acne and I read to get my blood tested for high testosterone at my dr. I took that advice and I found out I had PCOS and I was prescribed metformin and healed it. So I just want to write this to anyone experiencing something similar as advice

Or maybe people just forget to wash their face in certain areas! Acne can be hormonal, but you can’t pin point issues in the body from the location of acne..

I had pimples all over my face when I was in grade school. I found soap and water do the trick. Keep clean people. Wash your body every night. And your face every night. Don’t skip. Keep up your personal hygiene and you’ll see improvement super quick. Keep clean bed sheets and Don’t go to sleep without having a bath/shower. That will solve a good bit of the problem, and going to a dermatologist super important before you start putting acne treatment stuff on your face! Go with what they tell you to use

I recently went bald but haven’t really seen an improvement in my forehead acne (I use cleanser now instead of shampoo) so it must be stomach related… but I’m lowkey guessing it’s dairy. I’m not intolerant or anything but I feel like I get more forehead acne when I’ve had some lattes, cheese, yogurt…
