I think it's at least based on real stuff. I remember once in a genuine interview about their process Tim saying Eric comes in with amorphous, undeveloped thought bubbles and then they work it into something.
I love the subtlety. Bob's acting and some of his sillier lines stand out both the boys talk so naturally and there's such a lack of jokes it's almost believable. And that's what makes it funny.
@17:03 “Well we have the money”. The piling up of undercutting Eric is genius. It’s not so much anti comedy but just extreme negativity that becomes hilarious at a certain point.
This is so brilliantly accurate. The way some small thing builds up into a huge huge fight. The whole ape thing is stupid yet it drives this huge wedge
NO WAY, the apes idea was gold, Tim is too bull headed to cultivate it! It's always got to be all Tim's ideas, he so arrogant, that's why his name has to ALWAYS come before Erics.
-Tim can I pitch you one idea I have for uh next week? -Yeah. -Um. It’s leap year right? -Yeah. -So I had this idea.. -..That’s what we’re trying to figure out. -Look at me, cause I want you to see what I’m gonna do. -What. -Okay. An astronaut. Okay? And it’s one giant step for man. Right? One giant LEAP for mankind.
"Well, it's uh... supposed to be, you know, in a leap year, the woman propose, so, they say a blu ray is sorta like a female, I don't know, format." - Richard Dunn
Another subtle joke... He's doing a leap year episode on the week before the week that leads up into the next year. I.e. he's choosing to do a Leap Year episode (2.5 months too early) instead of a Christmas episode.
I've never ever realised, at the start they actually DO have Yo La Tengo. The one time they actually have the musical act, and we never even see them perform.
I wish they'd do a behind the scenes of this. Im curious if the others like Hur, Quall, and Dunn were in on it or knew what was going to go down. And if they weren't clued in, did they know immediately it was fake or not? You'd think they would, given he comedic style of the dudes they were working for, but at the same time Tim and Eric are so good at it, who knows.
When they did the valentine's day stream the other day they seemed to suggest that at Dunn was very aware and just down to do anything. I reckon the same for Hur given his involvement in beef house. No clue about Quall though
that whole back and forth revealed to me that I sometimes talk to my dad like Tim's "character" in the beginning of this ep whenever I don't completely get what he means and I was absolutely mortified. I've apologized and have been trying to fix this personality defect
The studio busting there ass off to work around the “talent” is the most realistic aspect about this. The “talent” is always unbelievable full of themselves in real life.
"Your birthday is the same as Cybill Shepherd's."
JAMES QUALL IS A COMEDY GENIUS
James Quall was genuinely proud of his "one leap for mankind" suggestion. What a diamond.
I was gonna like, but you have 69 so here you go 👍
"This is a disaster. Look at this"
Bob's executive corporate vibe was well done
Bob kills it when he comes in, his obtuse personality works so well with the thing Tim and Eric were doing.
"don't drink while I'm talking"
Did you just call him ubtuse 5 years ago?
@@ljensen7681 No
@@ljensen7681 how do you 'just' do something 5 years ago

lol. richards attempt to connect blu ray to leap year
"Well, its uh, supposed to be uh, leap year the woman proposed, so, say Blu-ray is more like a female, iono... Format."
"I gotta go out the back door because he's going to jump me again." hahahahhha
LOL that gets me everytime
I love the Tim and Eric stuff where they end up fighting
+MawBTS you'd love on cinema. Tim gets real mad and bellow-shouts a lot, its great.
Great call
then you''d loveeee tims kitchen tips. although you probably watched it by now after 5 years
@@drek273 if you haven't seen it, there's a small continuation of Tim's Kitchen Tips on Eric Wareheim's RUclips channel.
This is some genuinely great acting. Also, some genuinely great comedy
James Quall has one of the happiest attitudes I've ever seen in my life! So much that he makes me happy listening to him talk.
Shit I'm just happy and high looking at his goddamn smiling face.
Hard to tell whether its true happiness or just gimpface
I love Bob. "Go Tim. Tim's right."
19:23 *Points to John Mayer on tv* "..and this asshole right here..didn't contribute a single thing!" xD
This is so fucking sophisticated I'm fucking baffled. I just can't believe how good these two fuckers are.
it's pretty crazy. I wonder how long it takes to write an episode like this, and I wonder how much of it is ad-libed.
Relax bro it's not that serious
The 'ability' to get EVERYONE to 'not' act for one second in all of this episode is the pure genius.
I've worked for many production companies and they absolutely nailed it, it is exactly like this behind the scenes.
Liar.
Yeah I can imagine. And the big Hollywood productions must be hell on Earth sometimes.
Jon Mugar's deadpan is probably one of my favorite faces in the entire T&E univers
If I didn't know tim and eric, I'd probably think this was 100% real.
I think it's at least based on real stuff. I remember once in a genuine interview about their process Tim saying Eric comes in with amorphous, undeveloped thought bubbles and then they work it into something.
@@aarondavis8943 yeah they have known each other like 20+ years, I'm sure they've had some spats in that time
Ten years old, feels like yesterday. Still one of the funniest fucking things I've ever seen.
The whole Tim & Eric career led to this.
I love the subtlety. Bob's acting and some of his sillier lines stand out both the boys talk so naturally and there's such a lack of jokes it's almost believable. And that's what makes it funny.
Tim walks behind Ben Hurr: “Excuse me….. Can you get out of the dressing room, please?” Fucking hysterical.
"I have to go finish a speech I started earlier tonight' made me lose it.
The passive-agressiveness is overwelming. hahaha!
this might be the best thing tim and eric ever did
7 years later we have the epic universe of On Cinema which has carried the torch on from Nite Live.
"If you had green make up on..."
Amazing.
This episode was absolutely genius!

We all love chocolate to YOU!
Yaouuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!
"Only the person talking drinks."
I was away to comment this, I've watched this over and over and only noticed that stupid line.
You can drink.
11:18. The girls on the stairs realizing they are on camera and fleeing. LOL !
The last few seconds with James and Richard are priceless
I always lose it at Odenkirk’s delivery of “ok now watch this Papa Johns thing…”
Leap years will take away all of your tears. Leap years...it travels from space to another star. :LOoooL
14:20 david absolutely BEAMING from some praise from Bob. Golden stuff
"i can't go out the back door cause he's gonna fucking jump me again"
It's fine. That was really good, David. We've never heard a song like that.
These guys really are fantastic and hilarious.
@17:03 “Well we have the money”. The piling up of undercutting Eric is genius. It’s not so much anti comedy but just extreme negativity that becomes hilarious at a certain point.
It just builds and builds up. Genius.
welcome to the quallage
don't drink when I'm talking

+jack slate Eric is Judas, and Tim is like Jesus Christ - he comes alive all the time!
I gotta wonder if Tim and Eric mocked filmed the entire “chocolate episode” just to fool the other guys.
Absolutely did

I love this so much

Bob Odenkirk was the man that discovered Tim and Eric and got them a show.
He only discovered them because they directly sent him some of their stuff and included an invoice expecting him to pay for it, lmao
