  • Video of the weekly siren test in Moore, OK. This particular unit is located near the corner of SE 34th and Fairway. It is a Federal Signal 2T22. It was extremely windy, so that is the reason for the shaking. You can see the siren rocking in the breeze as well. ENJOY IN HD!

I have two things to say:
1.May the victims of the F5 tornado be blessed
    2. Awesome siren!

@@paulspomer16 : I know that there's a difference between the F scale and the EF scale, but I also will refer to a recent tornado in terms of its F scale, though I know that, technically, the EF scale is in use, and seems to be much more detailed in its accuracy. If I were authoring or reviewing an academic/scientific paper, I would certainly be more careful, regarding the terminology.
It's not ignorance or intellectual laziness on my part, just muscular laziness, I suppose. ;-)

  • @XT22SirenLives

Moore has some of the best sirens ever, the Mods, 2t22's and Thunderbolts harmonize PERFECTLY, and on the other hand, OKC just has a steady pitch and that is it. ALSO this siren is also sounding very healthy!

I know! Even though I’ve grown up a few blocks from a Whelen 2810 I still like the older sounding ones in Bethany and Warr Acres ... plus the Whelen 28s and 29s look like mascara brushes to me 😂

I am reading this in early May, 2019, and am wondering how up-to-date some of these comments are. Namely are there still mechanical sirens dotted across the metropolitan area?
Also, it sounds like Moore has replaced any sirens that need replacing with the electronic variety, though it appears as though any operable mechanical sirens remain until . . . they're destroyed? declared not repairable (or "not repairable")?
Our city--Wichita Falls--replaced all of our mechanical sirens en masse, years ago, which I thought was kinda silly--and expensive--and they are a little harder to hear, due to their omni-directional orientation (and slightly-wider spacing), compared to the Thunderbolt that was nearest us. The rotation of the mechanical siren made just enough difference in volume to (usually) catch our attention.
What is cool is that, because the electronic sirens are Federal Signal, they have an old Thunderbolt signal as a tone choice, which the city used a few times, and which I prefer. They finally settled on the default sound of these newer sirens, though. "Progress", I think they called it.

@@flatulenceone As of November 2019, Moore changed all modulator siren sounds to ThunderMod Level 5 and 6 sounds.

    • @flatulenceone
      @flatulenceone 3 года назад

@@NormanWeather: Thanks for the info. I wouldn't have known it, if you hadn't told me. I listened to the recording of one of those sirens on reddit :
And I compared it to this:
      ( ruclips.net/video/he0VckGishc/видео.html )
And the difference between the electronic version and the mechanical version is stark! The chopper adds what I suppose is called timbre (correct me, if I am wrong), which is a quality that the electronic version does not have.
It's been quite a while since I visited the Federal Signal site and listened to their available choices, but if none of their offerings include the "wind up" and "wind down" and the timbre of the originals, then I must give credit to someone in the city who was wise enough to record one of the Thunderbolts in the city and proffer it to those who make the decisions regarding such.

@@christophercarey3232 Sorry for the late reply. I'm not sure, but it might have the GE motor (which was from the late 1950's to the mid 1960's), and it was well maintained until the dampers went bad on it. So now the XT22 sounds like an STH-10 whenever it goes off for a fire call.

Unfourtunatly the 2T22's in Moore are gone now. A lot of them were destroyed by the 2013 EF5 while the others were all just old. Pretty sure Moore has FS 2001 sirens now. Either way this is a really nice sounding siren.

That’s… not true at all. Only 1 2T22 and 1 Modulator were destroyed in the tornado. Which were quickly replaced. They still have the same system. They have 1 older 2001 which has been there since the 1990s, 4 508s, 4 2T22s, 5 Thunderbolts, and 28 Modulators
