Matt is from my hometown. And all i can say is i am fortunate enough to see him work his ass off every week in our local scene. Like almost couldnt get away from him he was playing at so many places during my gigging days and when i was a part time drum tech for my mates band. So when you ask if he is trained. I am sure he is having been on Idol. But he also worked his craft every single day since he was on that trash show. Me and my mates would go watch him live at The Cove in Melbourne before he blew up after Idol. He was basically the house band and does an absolute belter version of Lover You Should've Come Over by Jeff Buckley Dude legit went from what he was doing on Idol to this in a couple of years
He wrote this song after getting caught sleeping with his best mate's girlfriend. A tonne of regret and emotion and you can hear every ounce of it. Dog move, but at least he created something beautiful from the ashes.
Wow I knew it was something about a good friend but didn’t know this detail.. thanks it makes a load of difference.. the emotion is so raw - this acoustic version is so much better than the one he does on the electric guitar with the band.
Jimmy Barnes from Cold Chisel has the most unique voice i’ve ever listened to live. His song Angel in My Room by Cold Chisel is phenomenal or Something Is Wrong (With My Baby) with John Farnham and Diesel. So unique, raw Aussie talent!
If you lived in Australia you would recognise the sounds he makes as the early morning native birds we wake up to each day :) I’m not even sure if that is the inspiration but I’ve seen a number of people comment that this is what it sounds like !
The opening ooh-ooohs echo the bird song of the Australian bush (predominantly), especially the laughing song of the Kookaburra bird. He's a brilliant talent too.
Yes hes trained, he used to sing with Hilllsong, his voice is so effortless I think he got bored with the style he had and started trying to find his style started looping, ick.. etc..then disappeared, had a kid and is coming back
