  • Today I answer the question, if I could only have one of these RK Tractors which one would it be? The choices are the RK 24, RK 37, and The RK 55 Compact Tractor. I also talk about hydrostatic vs shuttle shift.

After more than a year of research we finally brought a new subcompact tractor. After watching your channel and the quality of the RK tractor we decided to buy the RK19. We have a few aces with an outdoor wood burner and the RK19 has plenty of power for what we need. I spent all weekend on it and I couldn't be happier. Thanks Mike!

hi mick I like the way you think ill be the same as you with the cab. but if I was you ill pick big red and make the trails bigger or wider and cut the lower branches so it would fit underneath.i like your video so keep doing them. hope to see your boy in some more as well. its so lovely seeing you talk about him when your in your pick up and you have a big smile on your face just talking about him as your heading down the road to get his chicken burger and picking up a couple of things.

This is the first time I have seen you needing a bigger dump trailer. I just bought one with my good friend and have used it for wood and soon manure for the garden. Small (5X10) but bigger than yours. Love it. We looked for months for what we wanted at a good price and we found it. Great choice with the RK37 for your needs.

I have a 474. Which is an rk37 chassis with 48hp 4cyl. With a cab. The rk55 would be the way to go as the loader is considerably weaker. Doesnt have draft control and a few other things that would make the bigger tractor a good thing. If it doesnt fit, i will trim wherever it doest fit.
In the case of the rk55 vs 37 i think there is a huge difference in power all around. It may make your 100acres a lot bigger.

Hey Mike, nice problem to have. I think you would feel the RK55 was a little handier if it didn't have a cab. Cabs are nice when the weather is bad but awkward for working in the woods. If you're just puttsin around with firewood then the RK37 is all you need. But, if you want a serious tractor for dragging and lifting big logs and plowing and discing etc the larger 50 to 60 hp tractors are the way to go. As far as shuttle shift compared to hydrastat, if you do a lot of loader work like I do, hydro is the only way to go. If you do more ground engaging work like plowing and discing, or mowing in a straight line hour after hour then gear drive might be better because gear transmissions put more power to the ground. Personally I like hydro for my needs and find that my 62 hp kubota hydro has plenty of power for what ever I ask of it!

Luv the tunes.... I figured you'd lean toward the RK-37. I don't have a FEL on my machine, but I do use hydrostat on my Kubota garden tractor. For my MX4700 I actually prefer the shuttle shift. If I did a lot of loader work, I might be persuaded.

I agree with your choice, it's the same that I would have made (minus the cab) for MY needs/circumstances. I don't really NEED a cab here in North Florida. Yes it would be nice, but I don't consider it a NEED.
Tractors as far as choice, size, options etc. is pretty much a personal choice and (in my opinion) should match the requirements for what the person needs it for. Again, just my opinion, a sub-compact tractor such as the RK-24 is good for an "average" homeowner that needs to do maintenance type of work. It is also good for someone with property like yours or ours for clearing and building a homestead. The backhoe is a very handy tool and the small size makes "trail blazing" much easier when it comes to thick woods. It's a bit small for a "larger" piece of property ( > 10 acres) for handling all the tasks that need to be done.
The RK-37 is a good compromise in that it's still smaller, yet has just a little bit more power for some of the bigger tasks.
The bottom line is that it all depends on the needs of the person getting the tractor. It doesn't matter about brand. I happen to own a couple of John Deere tractors that are very similar in specs to the RK-24 and the RK-37. I certainly would not object to owning an RK, Kubota, Mahindra [insert tractor brand] as long as it is the right tool for my needs.

I agree as well. That 37 is incredible. I have a JD 1025R, which is a great little tractor. Not sure if you watch TTWT, he makes that lil sucker work! Where I part ways with that guy is that I know a 1 series is great for tight spaces and can do a ton of work, there are times I wish I had the power and size of a slightly larger tractor. I think a 3 series gives you the best of both worlds.

Haven't seen much about the 55. Is it that much larger than the 37 ? The extra HP would come in handy. For me the real question is how would I handle the warranty. It is a mechanical device and sooner or later it will need service. It would be worth a few bucks to have a good dealer nearby.

So what's the max on the loader lift and front axle on those RK 37 , My son has a little 2305 John Deere he let me use in my firewood yard to buck up trees on the forks he has , It can lift 900 lbs max . I stood that thing on its nose twice even with a counterweight box .Also the front tires are too small . My solution was go home get my vintage army truck fork lift ( rated at max 28,000 lift save lift 24,000 lbs ) Better to be safe than sorry working in the bush alone ..... footnote still looking for a 18.4-26 skidder tire . Without tractors at the local Rural King, and the strong possibilities that there will be no tractors at any Rural King in 10 years (as well as a few other brands sold at the local mower shops and box stores) the 3 series Deere with cab is the size and weight equivalent for most folks

    • @seemynewname
      @seemynewname 5 лет назад

BTW - I prefer Kubota over Deere, but it's hard to beat Deere's 3 series combo when you look at the width/weight/HP/cab - You have to go wider, lighter, less HP, or no cab to go Kubota.

Sounds like a good choice Mike, going with the RK37 with a cab. However, the RK55 with an open cab wouldn't be quite as prohibitive in close qtrs imho. My open cab John Deere 990 is a little larger than the RK55 & was a little more tractor than I needed back in 2003.That is why I bought it. My thinking is, it gets me a little heavier frame, bucket & arms, hubs & wheels, engine, etc. Everyone's needs are a little different however, as (16) years in with my tractor, ( never been in the shop ) has served me well... BTW, I awoke to 18-20" drifts from yesterdays & last nights Nor'easter here in N. Central Vermont. I have (6) hrs. work ahead of me to get it all pushed out. :~(

Great video... Great advice... I have a small JD 1025R tractor (no cab obviously) and I always say if I get a new tractor it would be in the 35 hp range with a cab. Where I come from you need a cab in the winter for comfort, but last summer I ran over a nest of hornets that burrow in the ground. A cab would have been nice - those 1025Rs can't out run hornets. We also have a resident badger who took offence to the fact I was knocking down a couple of old animal shelters that a previous owner of our property had left in poor condition. At the start of the day I didn't realize the badger was so attached to these dilapidated dwellings. Fending of a badger with a long pointy stick and the bucket of the tractor made for an exciting time. If I had a video of the ordeal I could have made a great advertising video for JD. Cabs not only bring comfort to the world of tractors but safety also ;)

Check out tractor time with Tim on RUclips. He has a 1025r and interviewed a company that makes soft cabs for it.

Sorry I'm a little late to the show... One question, How designed the house in general background?????

My lawn mower is 24 hp. I don't need a little 24 hp tractor that weighs less than 4000 lbs. Around 40 hp is a decent size tractor for just screwing around with. A hydrostat drive is great for making a tractor go back and forth. They are too power inefficient for putting horse power to the tires.

My choice would be the RK37 it looks like a good middle of the road the 55 would be too big for so many situations.
