Hey Chris. Thanks again for the class professor. Much appreciated. Rockclimbed alot and can attest to ropes needing lots of care. Keep them clean, don't step on them, tell them you love them... Peace
Fantastic content as always! Thanks for being straight up, best actually sailing content on youtube
I like your channel because you’re useful. Thank you.
Can’t wait to hear about electronics this is a great channel
Thanks Robert
Thanks a lot! I am on the market for my first boat. This is really helpful insight. On top we might add checking for soft spots on deck and check of hull for osmoses as basics.
Great content, thank you so much!
Could you do a program on engine life, diesel v gasoline? Also the recommended engine size for various size boats?
Thanks: Rich
I am saving this video. Thanks for putting this together.
Once again, great content. Good Job.
great informative video. thank you
Very good info as usual. Looking forward to more videos on more equipment.
Good morning Chris! Cross your fingers for me may be a new owner of a 84 s2 9.1 from a charter company out of the key's.
Best of luck 👍
nice video! thank you!
Great information, Thanks Chris
if the list is 50k and it needs 60k of repairs, should the seller be required to give me 10k to take it?
Buy a low-cost boat and fix it yourself. They are low cost because lazy people don’t want to fix them.
“But I don’t want to spend months in a boat yard.”
Sailing a boat that you have restored yourself gives you a deep sense of fulfillment. That feeling is gold.
Comfort breeds boredom and it makes you lazy and fat. Consequently it does not fulfill its purpose.
It just breads a different kind of pain that will cost you money and take up your time in the long run.
Seek Discomfort for a richer life.
Excellent video! Just out of curiosity, if you don't quite trust the seller's claim on the age of the sails, is there a way to tell how far into the lifespan the sails really are? I mean, if it is your own boat, you have a frame of reference but going in cold, you can't really judge their performance. (?)
A close inspection can give you some clues, stitching condition, seam inspection, stretch and so on should help
My Truth: Numbers don't lie.
My opinion: Neither does Chris.
5k is where it's start for standing rigging. It goes up with the length of your vessel. 10k and up is more realistic.
I know, but had i said 10k some potato would have said it only cost him 1k for his hobie lol
@@ChasingLatitudes exactly.... or said he just bought regular steel wire at the next home depot and it worked fantastic.
Yup, some clown responded and said so I'm supposed to ask for 10k off my 3 k boat from the dealer? I'm like dude , you did not understand the assignment
Don't lay off the need to replace standing rigging to the insurance companies, they are all different. Also, what about chain plates? Replacing the wire is one thing, knowing your chain plates are good is another. 10-15 years is my max, as a surveyor.
I just bought it cuz I had no words to go that's my little house on water just me and the cat
I like it.
An algorithm Thank you for ya.
I bought a 22 ft O'Day sailboat ⛵ 1978
Wonder how an owner reacts when you tell them you want 13k off the price cuz of all those issues with sails, rigging, engine, etc...
I can tell you , they usually want to balk at it however when break it down in simple terms as explained in this video they can't get upset, its just factual information, they can decline offer and hold out, counter or cry, makes zero difference, there are hundreds of thousands of vessels for sale all over at any given point. The trick is don't fall in love with a vessel you don't own
I bought my sailboat for $2,500 cuz I cannot afford an apartment or house so I went and bought a sailboat and it's much cheaper to live on a boat in a house in apartment just me and the cat and my sweetheart
Thays awesome
when 1 silver coin buys a 40 footer, i am all in!
BOOM
4, approx 4,500 - 5,000 for each sail ?
2k per sail is a good assumption
And by money pit, you mean dumpster??? :)
algo span
# 52 : get more savings , be patience and don’t fall in love … ✅
👍👍👍👍👍
Sellers aren't honest? Say it ain't so. :(
Never been asked by my insurance company the age of my standing rigging. Neither have any of my sailing buddies. 2 years on a set of sails? C'mon man. If you take care of your gear, it can last almost indefinitely.
I don't usually dignify such silly statements as the previous guy made 😜
@ABC gang Current boat is a Cal 34-3, insured through Progressive. Guess I should ask what boat you are sailing to be fair? Perhaps there are different requirements for comprehensive coverage vs only liability, but since my boat is paid for I only carry liability. Same goes for my buddies on their Ranger, Gulf's, Catalina, etc boats.
Seriously dude, I'm still running some 40-45 year old sails without any sailtape or patches, and still race when I can get off work.
a boat broker = a boat broke her
Boy, you really like bashing on Atticus don’t you. 🤣😂
🙃 if you knew what I do about them 😏 you'd understand lol, I am not a fan
@@ChasingLatitudes The lesson I took from them is don’t buy a 25 year old boat no matter how good a shape you think it’s in. I plan on buying new or near new.
