It's crazy to think that musk glands could be more valuable than gold, and it's a shame these unique and beautiful creatures are in so much danger from poachers because of it.

They don't worry about the cold, as an Arabian deer doesn't worry about the heat...iguana lives in heat i can't have an iguana as a pet in Europe without artificial lights, plus iguana loves moving and creating holes in ground some other races loves to live on trees...a human being you give him a bed he would ask for a better quality matelas, you give him cold weather he will ask for a hot country, you give him a hot country then he would complain for some cold air...humans and animals aren't the same, you can learn to survive from animals better than you can learn from humans.
The super costly musk perfumes were mainly made from the musk of these poor creatures. This documentary is primarily about making people aware of this deer it does not focus on the extent of killings that has been going for so many years to fulfill our pleasure. Only recently the musk is artificially created in the lab. Hope this creature will get a chance to thrive once again.
Could you talk about land snails? They're pretty diverse group although they're usually pretty small. Or has there already been a topic about that? I love these videos, regardless. Danielle's enthusiasm for the subject(s) really shows!

Looks like we got another Animal in the Convergent Evolutions category, I just looked up on a Similar Animal called a Water Deer, and to my Surprise, while both Animals are Hugely Similar in Look (tho the Water Deer has a more light brown gold coat) and well Fangs/ Tusks lol, they're not the same species nor related, as you said the Musk Deer is more related to the Animals of the Bovidae family, while the Water Deer is in fact a True Deer (even with the Similar appearance)

Wow I love their fur coloration. That mottled orange brown/grey brown, like my tortoise shell cat. Also, deer with fangs!?!? That's so crazy, if I saw one of them before knowing what they are I think I'd be a little scared lol. I would've thought it was fake if it wasn't from this channel.
There are siberian musk deer in korea which is protected speices. Their musk were used for medicine or ingredients for perfume. There are water deer here too which has fangs like musk deer. They are pretty cute.
Nice. I find out about these in "theHunter : call of the wild ". Second or third time I bagged one, I noticed the fangs and was very confused. This lead to taking down the Wikipedia hole and learning more about fanged herbivores than I ever thought I wanted to know 😊
When only the males of non-social species have weapons it's typically not primarily, if at all for defending a feeding territory. Their issue with food isn't so much finding enough food as it is extracting the nutrients from it. Weather is way more likely to cause actual (local) shortage of accessible food than competition is in their case. When they can't find enough food they move, moving is what migratory means. And, high grade of adaption like tusks for keeping a feeding territory isn't common, especially not in migratory species. And, as a rule of thumb, the more shy and cautious a species is, the less likely it is to keep feeding territories, especially true for non-social species.
Let me introduce you to the European Roe deer. It's VERY territorial, non-social (except in Winter where they form loose groups) and cautious and shy. Not migratory, though, as that would defeat the purpose of a territory. They are vicious little fighters, with spiky, relatively small, three-pronged antlers (male only). And they do use those antlers to chase away other male deer in their territory.
@@frizzlethecat2084 My point is about FEEDING territory, I thought I was extremely clear on that. Roe deer doesn't fight much for feeding territory, males fight each other in breeding season. She said the tusks were for controlling productive plots, because doing that is the difference between life and death in the winter. Which doesn't make sense in so many ways. Get it now?
I work at La Brea Tar Pits where the sabertooth cat has fangs that remind me of these deer. I think I read that fang bearing marsupials were the ancestors of sabertooth cats.
Their cousin, water deer, also called as the vampire deer, 90% of population live in Korea. Worldwidely vulnerable but there are just too many so they are consider to be harmful animals in Korea. So interesting to see their relative almost look alike!

I had a fear of deer too. I hallucinated one once on mixture of weird drugs and shrieked
I didn’t know these animals existed. They’re are very beautiful.
Neither me
In siberia there is a huge complex manufacturing hybrid animals through genetic engineering
the way they move around looks beautiful, almost reminds me of a cat. So agile and graceful, and their fur pattern is absolutely stunning.
I wonder how they survive that terrible cold. I imagine they find shelter/huddle in place? They are precious!
probably running from the numerous predators keeps them warm
Thick undercoat of fur. Humans only have hair. The difference is in most mammals fur is seasonal and much more dense.
Their wool is thick

These kinds of fangs are actually fairly wide-spread among Cervidae, too. The muntjac deers combine fangs with actual (yet rather small) antlers.
They also look very similar to the European Roe Deer. Apart from the antlers/tusks.
