Ive had a lot of days like this, where I just can't quiet my mind enough to take on difficult tasks. I give myself permission to step back, sit on the couch all day, or just sit in nature and try to sort out what my next step needs to be. This is something I decided is OK in my "golden years".

I live in northern Canada and love thrifting, we have clothing which we pass along freely which are promoted on sharing or helpers networks and neighbourhood or community pages on social media platforms , free stores, thrift shops, and consignment stores. We also have a similar system for furniture. Little free libraries people set up outside their homes for take a book/leave a book. We promote sharing food freely with those in need on social network platforms, free pantries and food banks. Also yard garage and yard sales when the weather is nice.

Hi, Wendy! I always feel better when I watch your videos, because it’s as if you “give me permission” for not being ok. My mother passed away two weeks ago, after years of suffering from a severe psychiatric illness, and people say that it has ALREADY been two weeks ago, as if I should ALREADY feel fine. However, for me it’s ONLY been two weeks and I don’t feel fine at all. I feel sad, because she was really ill, because she had to be in a nursing home, because she felt miserable all of her life, because she never managed to feel happy with the little things, and because she was my mother and I miss her. And I want to give myself permission to grieve, but it’s as if people think that “time is up”, since I knew she was ill and would pass away at any moment. As if I shouldn’t feel so bad, because I should expect this outcome. And I feel awkward for still not feeling ok about my mother. I mean, I know I have to give myself time to grieve, but I feel awkward because people think I should feel ok already! For the life of me that I can’t understand this society that wants us jumping of joy all the time. It’s as if we are “obligated” by some unwritten law to be happy and smiling all the time. It’s as if people have forgotten how we need to allow ourselves to let the grieve come and go at our own pace, not to have mental issues later.
Thank you so much for always being so honest, so transparent, so sincere about your feelings. You really help those who feel like you and sometimes are ashamed to say they’re not ok.
Thanks for keeping me company 😘😘😘😘😘😘🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Hi Alexandra, Reading your note to Wendy struck a note. Two weeks is a very small amount of time to grieve. There are so many aspects of a person's life to remember as we grieve and I often wonder why some people think that grieving should stop once the funeral is over. Perhaps they are not sure what to say as time passes but I think we should take time to remember our loved ones as we want to and for as long as we want to, regardless of what other people think. Take care of yourself. xx

Hi Wendy 👋, I Love that you are so open and we can share the good times and bad .I make greeting cards and after a very busy Christmas last year also I lost my mum . I battled through with orders until I couldn't see through the tears anymore . I realised that not everyone will be happy but hey I must come first for a change . I've taken time out , yes some days stayed in bed and been for lots of walks on the beach . The water really heals me . And haven't got my creativity back yet but it will keep for now and there are no dead lines to meet which stress me out .feel much better although still guilty for taking time out . I think us creative types do get burn out sometimes and just need to rest... glad your feeling a little better and sending you a big hug 🤗 much Love xx

It’s so important to listen to what our bodies are saying. I think creative people are also highly sensitive people. We feel others emotions and energy. Plus other senses can be heightened. It’s easy to get down and tired. Our world is very stressful and scary right now. That alone can make us feel down and tired. I’ve learned I have to tune it out and have my lovely breaks. I’m glad you are having yours too. Thanks for being so relatable and open.

The world is difficult these days and sometimes it is hard to cope and put on a happy face every day. I believe people relate to us better when we are genuine. That is what drew me to you in the first place. I adore the bunny dish! I am not a collector of many trinkets, although I have a few, but I love something thoughtful and that evokes my heart to be light. I'm an occasional tearful person too! I learned a little technique to use when feelings overwhelm me. I envision a screen across my visual field right to left or left to right. The feelings become slow moving images that I allow to pass across my screen slowly until they reach the opposite side, and then just disappear. The clouds disappear.
I loved this video, and thank you.

Thank you for sharing the reality of our internal cycles of emotion and mental well being. As we go about our lives we have these natural ups and downs that can be triggered by events, or physical variations in our natural hormonal swings. Digital life, and social media can add to that false sense that we must always be perfectly smiling, beautiful, hair combed or we are not normal. So a genuine thanks for being real.

Ha menopause….. I had very early menopause, starting around 42 years old. The mood changes, itchy skin, dry hair, hot flashes so heavy that I could feel the sweat drops rolling down my back, not sleeping, sleeping all the time, gaining weight from air … you name it I got it. Tried hormones for a while but I reacted very poorly to them . I became depressed and even suicidal…. My Gynecologist took me of them as soon as he heard about my symptom…. The moment I stopped the hormone therapy I became myself again and all the darkness disappeared. After that I just went with the flow….. that helped me a lot and the symptoms didn’t bother me that much anymore. I even went back to school and became a healthcare worker/ nurse…. I am now almost 60 and all that is far behind me . And I have never felt better in my life. It is going to be a bumpy ride but it will pass and once you’re post menopause there is more fun waiting🤗

I feel you hit the nail on the head with saying it could be menopause. I went through the same things as your describing. It’s not fun, but naming and understanding it, makes it a little easier. I found watching sad movies that made me cry followed by funny ones that made me laugh were very healing. It will pass and the sun 🌞 will share her smile with you. You are doing all the right activities and listening to your needs. Jack Canfield, founder of Chicken Soup for the Soul, has some wonderful affirmations to boost self-esteem and self love and helped me through menopause and life in general. On RUclips, Jack Canfield, “Tips to Boost Your Self-esteem”. The mirror exercise is one I liked the best. Before bed, You look yourself in the mirror and tell yourself what you appreciate about yourself and what you accomplished each day, big and small. Then look yourself in the eye and say “I love you” hold eye contact for a second. Awkward, at first, but just keep doing it every night and it will change the way you feel about yourself. You are precious and beautiful and I hope this will help you get you through this difficult patch. From my mountain top in middle Tennessee where the hilltops kiss 💋 the sky 🌄, love Fran

So often we shut ourselves down, attempting to avoid our feelings and emotions, and what is happening in our world! Basically this has the opposite effect, when what we need is to free ourselves! In an overwhelming situation as you show us we must allow ourselves to rest, to minimize the stress, decide on a reasonable amount of accomplishments! Recently I witnessed a family member going through work situations, she kept saying “I just don’t understand why, I just can’t handle this, I think I am depressed “ where the real issue was not facing how she was feeling, and that she was in that ancient mind of “fight or flight” also her integrity fought with the seemingly reality of the demands of the work place! This helped me prioritize my own issues as we sought how she took care of herself in the past, going to the lake and getting into a calm state among other things! Her counselor affirmed she not depressed! I renewed my
mindfulness practices! I just waited for our cuppa, slightly afraid we wouldn’t have one!

Love you Wendy.💖 And truly loved this video. Totally relate to everything you shared. Menopause is truly a phenomenon to experience.🙄 We as woman must continually be finding our balance as our hormones fluctuate. Not always an easy task and I wish you all the best in keeping your equilibrium dear lady. Not sure what age you are but I highly recommend reading Hormone Repair Manual by Lara Briden. It has truly helped my 51 year old daughter, however I unfortunately at the age of 70 received the information a bit too late. There are many things one can do to help manage your well being if you start at the earlier onset of menopause, (perimenopause) which is when we experience the roller coaster ride you are probably on right now. Thank you as always for you honesty and vulnerability dear Wendy💙🙏 I honor you and all your amazing raw beauty!💖💫

Hope you are feeling better soon, I can certainly relate. I have had so many losses over the last three years that I feel absolutely stripped of the person I had been. I desperately want to feel that creative passion again, that liveliness and positivity that was surging through me. @@theunexpectedgypsy When I was in peri-menopause, it seemed that women delighted in telling me the worst horror stories possible (20+ years in, and still having hot flashes, etc) about what was 'going to happen to me'. Fortunately, I had genetics on my side, and didn't have to deal with any of that, but I wanted to point out that it was really hard to keep myself in a good head space while so many clients and coworkers were set on making me anxious about the situation. I think a lot of it was envy, as I was finished with the whole shebang at 41 years old! I'm just now learning to take time for myself at 56 , and I very much appreciate the way you've made me feel ok about it. You've got this!
