These are neat! With the extra binding, one could probably fashion a handle to hang the board when not in use, or maybe when in use! See you on Tuesday!
I need to make some of these! Thanks for the nudge. The other way to make fast folded strips is the old "needle in the ironing board" trick. I would probably just use a glue stick instead of zig zag stitching because I use a straight stitch only machine.
My zig zag isn’t zigging correctly 😭 might have to go get it serviced. Thankfully the straight stitch is doing great. I think the zig zag might help it fold over easily as well as sew the sides in… lmk how it goes without it!
You can cut the pieces for a whole quilt, and stack them all on one board, piece the units, go to the iron, press maybe trim and put back, until you get all blocks done, put finished blocks on top as you finish for fhe day. Put it on your scrap bucket when done cutting for the day, easy to get back to it, the next time you have a chance? Do you cut your own pre-cuts from scraps or 42 fat quarters, a 10" and a 5" strip from each will give you 2 LC and 4 CS or jelly half rolls by 42 pieces scrappy, try the patterns you haven't got to yet? Or do up some kits with patterns and challenge your quilt buddies? Do you have a snuggle kit, quilt, pillow, little bits for comfort, and a tote for everything, when you have a day free to read, slow stitch etc?
Do you use one board for an entire quilt or a board for each block style? I try to use one/block so I don't get things mixed up. As for fabric - yes. 🤣 Primarily I cut from bolt fabric since I get bolts of my own designs so that's what I have the most of. Now I need to add "make a snuggle kit" to my list - love the idea and the name! Happy sewing!
I made these from the foam core available at Dollar Tree. Unfortunately it is not as thick and stable as the foam core used in the ones from Lori Holt. I hope someone will research and find out the correct thickness of foam core to make these to resemble the ones from Lori.
What will you use design boards for? Quilt Blocks or something else?
I like the idea of stitching the binding first! I never thought about that!
I think making the zig zag about as wide as the foam core is thick helps it fold over really well too! Have fun!

I'm sure foam core is a "you get what you pay for" product - maybe an office supply store has more dense foam core?
I bought mine on Amazon. They are perfect.
