Maya, if you have the time, can you please compile material or make videos about survival skills for women who transition from city life to country life? (Specially skills that you learned on the farm.)
THIS IS INSANE!!! But my journey has been is some crazy alignment with Maya's...from our divorces a year apart, the big chop, to our big moves, career changes, and now I am getting married and moving to the UK from Canada. Like I dont even understand!!! I am going to gamble and pray that I will be pregnant by this year end lol!! God Willing!!!! Wish YOU BOTH THE VERY BEST!!! xox
I just love the transparency between the both of you. Like one will say something and then the other will follow it with "Well why do you feel that way, where does that come from, WE can work on that together" Just beautiful.
@@jhnell9415omg I’m rewatching this and see I left a comment here🙈. And guess what? I’m in The Netherlands in a very small village. Omg. Dreams do come true. God is is good y’all. @jhnell9415 did you make it back? 👂
I had the same exact thoughts when everything shut down and started looking into farming, homesteading, living off grid, building your own homes, etc. I love this step that you’ve taken.
I'm Canadian (parents are from costa rica) and my husband is from Michigan, we lived in Portland OR for 6 years and moved to NC a year ago but our next adventure is Costa Rica by 2023 😁
I would love to live a peaceful existence surrounded by the beauty of nature with the birds singing in my ear. And vacation where the sea meets the sky. Living in a city for 54 years has me wanting this and I just have to align myself, so the Universe can give it to me. You two stay safe and blessed!💛💙💜🇨🇦
If I had a Do Over I would… I would save up for a home and learn how to grow produce, compost, budget, sew and cook. I am 55 years old and still living in Los Angeles, my birthplace. But, I’m planning to retire a bit early within the next 2-3 years and move to a more suburban area to own my own home. I think that I shouldn’t live too far from the city center, but I’m open to living in a less densely populated neighborhood where I can spend my time learning how to do those things on a small scale. I admire what you’re doing. I love your lifestyle. Your baby is going to grow up safe, free to explore, use his/her imagination during play and enjoy farm to table nutritious food. My hat’s off to the two of you. Cheers 🥂🥰
Kigali, Rwanda has spring weather all year round! I’m from the US and have been traveling for the last 3 years. I moved to Kigali in Nov 2020. It’s a great place to set up a life and still be a traveler. You guys are so beautiful together. To watch Maya learn her hubby’s language warms my heart. I wish you all happiness, much love, and success.
Intentional communities are so important. Moving out the USA was a big step but now it feels like home because I’ve actively work inside my community and know my neighbors and can have conversations in German.
GIRL I've been following you for SO DAMN LONG! I think the head shave video was the first one I saw like 2 days after you posted it. I don't know you personally but I feel like I do. I'm good friends with some peeps who knew you way back when in NY because life is crazy! Just so so super happy for you and your journey. You'll always be shameless to me! Best Best Wishes! Xoxo
👍Good point about being able to plant food from where you are (like a balcony at an apartment). 👍Now I’m all caught up & have watched all of the videos. 💝
My journey began this year, I packed up 3 bags from the east coast and made the solo journey to the rainy countryside in Maui, HI. It's incredibly different living here than a major city. I love the change; its wet, rainy and refreshing. I'm learning to love and understand the land, taking time and space to grow and connect with mother nature is serving me very well in this moment. I am so excited to watch your journey, I look forward to growing my own food and becoming self sustaining in the future. Ciao
I'm a SoCal native however I've lived all over Europe and I'm most comfortable living and working abroad. I fell in love with Scandinavia more specifically Sweden, Norway and Denmark. I love the small fishing towns country side. The clean simple food, culture and hospitable people pulled me in. I am in the planning stages of moving back to Abroad. Funny you mentioned Portugal because its definitely one of my top 5 countries l love visiting. I do own land in the states and l will build on it in the future. Currently l own a home as well but it was never my intention for it to be my forever home.
As a young (21) city girl who dreams of moving to the country this video was super interesting and insightful! Loved hearing your experience. ❤️ sending blessings for your birth also
I totally agree with learning to survive without the mass production of things, it will continue to be very much needed. I know it would be a huge adjustment and it would be challenging especially for my age but I do know that with help and learning I would be okay because I wouldn’t want to live to removed from a city.
Buy property in CENTRAL PORTUGAL! I’m Swedish but my mom is Canadian and she now has a farm in Portugal. Only cost her 300.000 SEK. Needs some renovating but there are loads of beautiful river beaches and nature in central Portugal.
My goal is country in the city. A home with land with lots of space and trees and large enough for a huge "home garden" but only a 15 minute ride to "civilization". Also, please remember ( I know you all have been told this) a new baby will be the hardest thing you'll go through. It's joyous but hard. Just enjoy and let the time pass, do not be weary....I felt that on my spirit to say...lol.
I love the "why" questions that Max always brings up. It gives an opportunity for a deeper, conversation, which I really love! PS, I am currently commenting from Johannesburg, South Africa!
I was born and raised in a big city, St. Louis, Mo, the midwest! I live now in a big city, Miami, Fl. I was always a big city girl! But now that I'm retired & older, I would love to live as you both live in Sweden. Nice quiet country side! It's (for me) all about peace, tranquility, & nature! Happy Sunday!
Maya i completely understand about moving to a new country and learning a new language, i jave moved here in france from Jamaica after finding love, and trust me soeaking the language of the country you are in is a must or else you will feeling completely left out so i get it.🇯🇲🇨🇵
What I've learned so far in my life with my own experience and observing others is this (which is normally a quote from Michel de Montaigne): "One should always have one's boots on and be ready to leave", because life is change and motion. You did that when you moved to the countryside and whenever you'll feel like it, you'll do it again somewhere else. I think it's a good approach to avoid staying stuck in a situation that is not aligned with your mindset.
Next chapter for me and my partner is actually Malmö, Sweden. After living 6 month in Skillinge (countryside), I am craving the feeling of fullness that cities give me. This video made me think about something: probably I will be bouncing back from city to countiside all my life. Just can't stay put 😃🌪 I appriciate you guys so much. Hope to get to meet you one day 🙂 CIAOOOOO Terry (expat from Italy)
As I was watching your video and you were talking about missing a community, I was thinking about these times that has honestly affected everyone in that manner. So I don’t think you’re the only ones to feel that way! I think craving a sense of belonging with likeminded people is not la but there’s also so much beauty in creating a little safe heaven for your little one. Maybe like you said this is just this one phase before things start up again and you’ll think about the days when you had more of this rustic living and miss it! Who knows! But anyways, I’m very happy for you both! I’ve been following you Maya since day 1 and I can’t believe how far you’ve come 😘❤️
I love living in Tennessee! It’s country, beautiful, and the landscape is outrageous. Autumn is my favorite season.. I love the trees, leaves, and picking pumpkins 😂. Never would give it up for the world!
You get paid by the “grid”. That’s a hard life. Our ancient ancestors would gladly love a grocery store. It’s a balance. Portugal or Costa Rica would offer the best of both worlds.
I just love you two. I have followed Maya forever so I came on over from her channel. I love the content on this channel. You two are so real and i feel like you are as normal as me.
Back here after a while because I often have this discussion about where I'd move, or what would I change for the next phase of life my answer has changed over the past 2 years so remembering my original thoughts I'm wondering. Has yours changed? Always love your discussions, thank you for sharing.
You guys complement each other so well....May you continue to grow your family in love, peace, and joy.❤️Don’t hesitate to move back to the City if that’s what your heart yearns for.....
Countryside living isn’t for the weak. That’s something people do there whole Life! Don’t be so hard on ya self. Great that you can integrate tech with country living!!
You guys are sooo brave ! I could only do country side living for maybe a week or two. I like being within a community and having access to shops etc. I defo want to move somewhere warm in my next chapter !
Thank you, Maya and Max, for the update; you both are settling in nicely with each other. Maya, you’re very chill with your pregnancy, and it seems that you got married, and are having a baby and starting a new life at the perfect time for you! You both glow with love and respect for each other. Much love, peace, joy, happiness, and prosperity. I will come to Sweden and babysit so you guys can have date night! 🙏🏽😂❤️
Yes Maya!!!!!! SOUTH OF PORTUGAL!! We would looooooove to have you here!! It.s the perfect combination of countryside and some big towns....and definately warm people ❤️❤️🌹😘😘
♥️Maya that is a great tip. I'm in NYC and should learn to grow something with value to my well being like carrots, tomatoes etc. So happy for you and your growing family! LOVE the real and honest update! Sending love from NYC. ❤
I also moved from the city to country... but i live on an island so in 45 min..i can be in the city... after living for 4 years i cannot imagine living in the city back again..i hate it..when i have to go to the city look for parking..busy everywhere.. i like the solitude of being in nature.. i think once you setup..irrigation for your plants and maybe spray the land for weeds...and you can be weed free for a few months...and fix your hoise slowly..than..you will not be as busy as you are now..you will have more time...i setup irrigation for my plants...spray for weeds..and my animals get every two days food..i setup away they have for two days water and food..and now everything runs smoothly.. and easy
It takes a long time to adjust to country life and self-sufficiency. A big part of that is actually community, sharing what you have with others and getting something in return. When we started our gardening & farming journey last year (that will hopefully lead to a much more self-sufficient life in the near future), the elderly neighbours were all over us, gifting us plants and veggies, asking us questions and giving us tips. As we cannot have chickens right now, we get our eggs from neighbours, friends or the local market. We share our harvest with everyone who needs & wants. So, no, you do not need to do EVERYTHING by yourself, the people in the documentaries etc also did not pop into the world, knowing everything and doing it ALL by themselves. They have family and/or community and have walked long paths to get where they are. It is okay to need help and to take your time. It is a long process of unlearning, relearning, reshaping and growing with nature, not only from it. You 2 are doing great, keep going! Lots of love from Pico Island (Portugal) :)
I love it, I myseld have been watching you since the beginning and your changes in life. Its beautiful to see you so happy and pregnant with your husband ❤️ you can tell that you are both devoted to work things out and to hold on together 🍀 Sweden is a lovely country to be in, sometimes its good to be in a calmer country. I grew up in Switzerland and I love New York, London, Paris and bigger cities but the best is sometimes to comme back to a calm and smaller city. Let's be honest it's also so much more secure. 💜💜
You’re so beautiful you two 😍 i like that maya trying to learn swedish especially as a pregnant that is must I didn’t know how to speak Italian 🇮🇹 like I didn’t understand anything it was so difficult and stressful during my pregnancy and labor when i tried to explain my pain and when I needed to ask something..
My daughter wants to live in Gotenburg, we are from the Netherlands . She fell in love with Sweden when she worked in a hotel in 2018 in Malung. She almost a goldsmith. I would love to move to the country side of Sweden. With my dogs, cats and horse!
mmm I am thinking of moving to smaller city, and even so this has been super helpful. Love your graphic content, and your vocation to share and pass knowledge. Sending love to baby Saga🥰
We bought a house that needed a lot of work because it was sitting on 3 acres of land. Now that we have paid everything off we are updating our house and are in the processes of doubling the square footage of our house. The 3 acres has allowed us to grow our own food year round, because we also have a greenhouse. It's the best decision we've ever made. As far as proximity to the city, we are only 20 minutes away. Just like you all we also have a well, and exchange some of our goods with our neighbors. I actually believe we have the best of both worlds because we are far enough away from the city to avoid the hustle and bustle yet close enough when you want a night on the town.
Did y’all answer any of the questions we asked for lolol maybe this isn’t that video. I grew up in the country and I love living close to everything. Maybe you’ll find the perfect balance. Love that you all aren’t stagnant.
Thanks for sharing your country life experience!. As someone who is a city kid, growing up in Toronto and Copenhagen, I have always romanticised country life. I have some friends in Canada who are endeavoring to live lives in the countryside with small farms. But I don't know if I could do it. I think it sounds pretty amazing to be immersed in work to do with nature and outdoors living. It sounds healthy both physically and mentally, and your child will thrive and learn so much from this kind of lifestyle. Community is beautiful and important for one's well-being. Just having watched the Netflix documentary "High on The Hog", have you considered doing a harvest feast where you invite friends and people over you want to become friends with, even from the city, to come eat? Food always brings people together. You could even team up with someone who are growing different foods, making their own wine or similar and host together. For Maya, being a brown woman, I get that you also need your people, which is something I relate to. I think you should take this very seriously living in a country as white as Sweden, and focus on creating that community, also for the sake of your child. Representation and feeling seen are crucial for the child's upbringing. I would know having grown up in a predominately white society in Denmark. Regarding the language, Maya you are right, you need to learn it. Most Europeans and especially Scandinavians, are very good at English, but that doesn't take away the fact that knowing the local language will bring you closer to the culture. There is a sense of pride knowing the language of the country you decide to live in - for yourself and the native speakers - and like you said it shows an effort. It will be good for the child as well that you know both languages and essentially will be able to code switch. Good luck with learning! Definitely find a Swedish friend nearby and ask the person if she/he would like to get tea/coffee and practice the language for a couple of hours each week.
I love your channel and I love your content, but I can't help but think of how many people do not have opportunities to own homes and have access to nature like you have in a country like Sweden, especially in a climate crisis? Having lived in 5 countries myself, I know the process of adapting is always in stages. Discovery and excitement of a new place , new foods and new routines(1), annoyance because this new place is different from what you are used to and comfortable with , especially if you do not have friends or strong networks (2), and finally establishing your routine, your community and learning to realistically appreciate where you are (3). I implore you to change the mindset to what you have rather than what you don't have, i know that has helped me a lot in the past!
I grow herbs on my balcony. 🪴 I also travel a good bit. I’m on my way to Morocco next week. I would love to live in another country. I have also been to South Africa. I can see myself living there.
We're a military family that moves every couple of years. Our retirement plan is to live about 45 minutes outside of a city. We want to become more self sufficient with the option of going to the city when we want to. The best of both worlds in my opinion. However, we have no idea where and we're open to moving out of the U.S. any suggestions would be appreciated.
I will remain or at least keep a place in New York(Brooklyn) always because home is home and I don't need to go away to know this is it for me. However I am open to a temporary change of pace elsewhere if an opportunity presents itself. When I get a partner though I will discuss dual citizenship in another country simply because I feel this country has a reckoning coming from the inside and outside that I don't want to be in harm's way for. I'd like a happy medium of city and a more suburban/rural place. So I'll probably move just outside the boroughs for a little more space and quiet but still be close enough to hit Liberty for some currant rolls and my Caribbean groceries. I'll never say never but I have always had a garden and enough outings into nature to be balanced.
Maya please tell me how to compost. I have a patio, however, for two years I tried growing tomatoes and cucumbers, girl, what a disaster! This year I just gave up planting food, so I just took care of my beautiful flowers on my patio. Can you help me?
I'd love to live by the lake. :) I love visiting the country for the peace and to see all the stars but not sure can live there long term. but ya never know....
Maya, if you have the time, can you please compile material or make videos about survival skills for women who transition from city life to country life? (Specially skills that you learned on the farm.)

26:51 research about Cape Verde. Islands in Africa but with a Portuguese connection. They are stunning, peaceful, and super cheap to live in.

Its beautiful to see you so happy and pregnant with your husband ❤️ you can tell that you are both devoted to work things out and to hold on together 🍀
Sweden is a lovely country to be in, sometimes its good to be in a calmer country.
Maya! Just came across this and watched the whole thing. So lovely getting an update on your life!!!! xoxo Marc
Love the way Max looks at you when you speak 😍
mmm I am thinking of moving to smaller city, and even so this has been super helpful. Love your graphic content, and your vocation to share and pass knowledge. Sending love to baby Saga🥰
By far one of the realest about farmlife. I am here for it. Keep it up lovelies💛💛💛
Just happy for all your blessings !!
👍⭐️Very cool. Thanks for sharing. 💝
Yas! I’m so glad to see an uploaded video!!!!
We are excited to share this story with yall! xx
I love your energy together. My next chapter is in a more temperate climate. I want to be outside all year long.
Gosh, you are so gorgeously radiant, Maya! I’m in awe!
You two are so beautiful. And then on top of that you have a blend if each other. Perfect
You have your facts
Best comment!
@@afro-swedishfamily2677 Tack :) That was very sweet.
I love this update. It’s so interesting what takes up your mind when you are thinking about survival.
This is wonderful! I always appreciate the updates :)
I grow herbs on my balcony. 🪴 I also travel a good bit. I’m on my way to Morocco next week. I would love to live in another country. I have also been to South Africa. I can see myself living there.
I really like the insight into your lives, but I’m loving Max’s broccoli shirt more!!
🥦🥦 🥦

We're a military family that moves every couple of years. Our retirement plan is to live about 45 minutes outside of a city. We want to become more self sufficient with the option of going to the city when we want to. The best of both worlds in my opinion. However, we have no idea where and we're open to moving out of the U.S. any suggestions would be appreciated.
I LOVE Max’s blouse! Y’all are so beautiful 💚💐
Does Max have broccolini in his shirt?? 😅 either way y’all are so great and always make me so excited for my future ♥️♥️
i was wondering the same!
Haha I actually love the shirt. Broccoli flowers for the win
Couples goals back at with an update!
Maya please tell me how to compost. I have a patio, however, for two years I tried growing tomatoes and cucumbers, girl, what a disaster! This year I just gave up planting food, so I just took care of my beautiful flowers on my patio. Can you help me?
I totally get the desire to learn to be self sufficient....very interesting discussion. Thank you
Awwww this is so cute ❤️ I like max’s haircut👌🏾 kudos to you two 👏🏾
Moving from NYC to Arizona hopefully in the next 2 years
Living in Sweden just makes it worth watching you guys
I'd love to live by the lake. :) I love visiting the country for the peace and to see all the stars but not sure can live there long term. but ya never know....
I definitely want the best of both worlds where I have a summer home in the country . There, I can regroup and decompress.
This is the most realest video ever. I can relate
