In the next edition of RA and SONOS's film series, we hear how a city's music scene saved one of dance music's favourite DJs.
Jack Revill says he never wants to leave Glasgow. It's the place where he's lived his entire life, and, in a sense, it's the city that saved him. When he was 14, Jack suffered a personal tragedy that set him on a destructive path. He rarely attended school, and, like a lot of young people in the city, drugs increasingly became a part of his world.
Jack's life was chaotic, but he knew he wanted to become involved in music, and so he took a work experience placement with Rubadub, the Glasgow record shop and distribution centre. "He was the worst boy we've ever had," Wilba, one of Rubadub's founders, told us with a smile. Rubadub became Jack's "second home," and the musical education he received there gave him the confidence and knowledge to pursue a career in music.
These days Jack is, of course, one of dance music's most successful DJs, and, as a record label boss and promoter, a famous ambassador for Glasgow's scene. For our next instalment of ORIGINS, Jack introduced us to the people and places that have been so vital in shaping his musical and personal identity.

Great short film, bit heartfelt for the poor lad, insane Dj none the less

Wonder what Dj Chinscratcher is up to these days...
He's now Dj Ballscratcher.

Never heard of this guy till I went to see Disclosure last year at the Hydro.I dont claim to know much about DJ Culture but this guy had the place jumping and what he was doing behind his decks was fucking incredible.Great and humble video.Mon the Jack!!!!
With you all the way Jack. Really heartfelt film. Props to you and your dad. Hope he is well.
What a safe bloke
Really enjoyed that. Great guy. The wee junkie at the end was a good laugh
DJM500 is "a shite mixer!?" that's a legendary piece of kit! Might be a bit simplistic but solid and user-friendly! I still have a 600 coz we're not all rich, super-star DJs! :P
very emotional, dis guy deserves wut hes worked for kool guy
I’ve been following Jack for the past 10 years. Talented and intelligent lad. Would love to meet for a chat, humble, down to earth and honest. Great RUclips video this 10/10
Brilliant. So good to see some footage of home! Jackmaster doin Glasgow proud!
These ORIGINS films are beautiful and insightful, thank you for endeavoring to show another human perspective of dance music.
Top bloke, and top doc that.
Really Really Good, Resident Advisor hats off to you! P.s that guy Stuart near the end when he said i never said you could be a model had me in stitches.
Bloody great RA! Jackmaster has always been so well respected in the game and this film goes some way to highlighting why.
When is it coming out in english ?
:D loving the accent
educate yourself
I'm English and I got every word.
Guys...chill :) perhaps it was a joke ;)
Proud to be Glaswegian.
probably my favourite dj...so good at mixing and he fucking loves what he does, same with Eats Everything & Skream, top dogs. They're quite inspirational to young dj's even tho they're so humble and just joke around
Crazy the way his dads seen Otis Redding and Al green live
Eustex in fairness I've seen al green myself he still tours a little
LOL millions and millions have seen Otis And Al Live, not sure if you noticed but they were pretty successful
@@jamesflowers874 probably not millions but definitely thousands. Otis Redding died at 26, and in those days it was rare for those artists to come to scotland.
So proud that the music industry has jackmaster,
Anyone that's lived in Glasgow would agree it's something special
Can´t believe I´ve escasped watching this for two years. I read he was worried about how he´d come across. Heart really went for him when he was telling us about his mum man. The gadgie at the end outside Sub club - belter! Tryin to imagine non-scots trying to get a word of that! Hahahaha!
+Jon Lear aw shit I just reported that comment instead of reply argh! Apologies. Up until he says "you're just sittin there like that, who do ye think ye are' fuck knows!
Respect to one of our sons wrecking up the underground! You never know someone's story, deserves everything he's worked for congrats man!
BIG respect to Jackmaster.
i'm watching it for the 5th time right now :) i love seeing him to be that grateful!!!!!
"We do this thing called work experience"
the best music comes from grit and escapism.
Really looking forward to seeing Jackmaster at Highest Point on Friday 18th May!
How did it go? I studied in Lancaster a few years ago.
Really enjoyed watching this for so many reasons!!! Quality! Club 69 lost my favourite ever jumper there
Talking about 2004 like it's the distant past does not compute.
16 years ago now, mental eh
what a great guy!! will check out his mixes now!! Glasgow is deffo a hotbed of good music!!!
14:10 wtf is he doing with that torch lmfao
Jackmaster should be in Trainspotting 3!
Really, Really enjoyed this - great guy!
I miss Glasgow :-)
Glad your back Jack
Brilliant insight! thanks
top bloke, top documentary, awesome music :)
Super! Well done RA
great film, JM is a legend
"That was the best night I've ever had, certainly in there, maybe in my life, and I've still got it on MiniDisc."
Seemingly innocuous comment if you're from the Soundcloud and RUclips generation, but it was rare to hear a recording of a set you heard out back then. Jack's not saying "I've still got it on MiniDisc." He's saying "I'VE STILL GOT IT ON FUCKING MINIDISC!"
So easy if you’re young like myself to forget how limited accessibility to music was back then, we’re spoilt in this day and age
Jackmaster and his views on current 'EDM' 3:50

Great Doc. Thanks
Really cool guy, I wish him all the best :-D

top bloke!

cool dad
His childhood doesn't sound middle class to me. He's working class, but I wouldn't wanna break the news to him. Great documentary as always though.
I came from a middle class background, but circumstances turned it into a working class background. I have no issues with that. I am proud of my roots.
Hide the kettle!
Kan't andastanda word :D
Jack's dad is the spit of Gavin McInnes
