Fame is never straightforward. RA's latest film about touring DJs takes a journey across Europe with Seth Troxler, one of electronic music's most controversial and widely recognised characters.

There's a lot to unpack with Seth Troxler. The American DJ and producer has come to symbolise the notion of DJs as rock stars. He courts controversy, says what's on his mind and parties harder than most. But Troxler is no senseless hedonist. Since establishing himself in the late '00s through a string of leftfield house releases, he's become known as a man who thinks deeply about his art and his life. By simply being himself, Troxler attracted a kind of cult following-the fans, the hangers-on, the naysayers. As a result, he feels he struggles to be taken seriously, and he's keenly aware of how his lifestyle negatively impacts his relationships. But when you strip away all of these connected issues, you're left with a highly driven DJ who knows exactly what it takes to lead a life of the road. This sense of complexity and opposing forces is something that Troxler contemplated as we tailed him across Europe for our latest Between The Beats.

Interesting to see Tiga in that nervous/excited/delirious before gig mood.
the whole of tommorrowland looked like a fucking horrible nightmare, id rather a bad trip on shrooms than be there.
i hear that brother
+Fat808 it is far worse than a bad trip on shrooms. I'm there every year :(
Great video
This guy, along with Darius Syrossian and only a handful more, are probably the most brutally honest and open people in the industry who don't hide behind anything to be popular
its clear its done for the love of the music.
yes, true, but id say Syrossian has a more positive outlook on things, if you follow him closely you will see that he loves what he is doing and always states bow lucky he is and the downsides are a small price to pay for doing what you love.
the Motor City Drum Ensemble documentary though i liked very much, when he was being honest about his anxiety was interesting.
anyway bravo RA for bringing us these documentaries.
STILL TRUE!
Love how no one recognizes him on the mainstage lol
Only at tomorrowland
Tomorrowlands filledd with douchebagsss
So much respect for this guy, he was walking around talking to everyone at tobacco dock for acid future, really sound down to earth fella I thought and was good to chat to
Got a pic with him at acid future, he stopped and chatted to us for 5 mins top bloke
Haha his face at the EDM, class. Seths a very unique DJ. This documentary just shows it
It's a really cool portrait of Seth. I mean I like what he does, his style and I even like it more after watching this documentation! Keep on buddy ;)
seems like we havent watched the same video ahah
11:35 nice little bump for the car ride back.
That was Aaron.
Incredible DJ, great producer, seems to have a chip on his shoulder, but if we are being honest, most of us do.
Seth looks like he was drawn by Dr Zeuss
LLOL
Ahaaaaaaa well done sir
At 7:20, "you're sonically raping my ears!" Seth Troxler my hero! 👊
7:45 - Seth's thinking, what the fuck is this shit thats making my ears bleed
Dear Resident Advisor, I've now seen Seth, Nina, TMB and Motor City videos, and to be honest, they are all pretty bland. They all say the same stuff.. I'm a DJ, life on the road is like this, see what the future brings... How about shooting some older guys like Laurent Garnier (as Seth mentions) or Sneak, Radiohead, Sven Vath, Kenny Larkin, Jeff Mills, Robert Owens etc etc.. just people who will actually have more interesting things to say... People under 30 who just gig every weekend and don't have much other input in the music industry is boring... Very well shot and produced videos, just need more substance over style... Thanks.
Nick,I work in music and I've been fortunate to meet most of the guys that you've mentioned. This is a twenty minute shot and the format is based on life on the road and not an indepth look at their lives in general. Seth is a very interesting fellow as are Kenny,Laurent Sneak and a bunch of others whom you haven't named. Mills doesn't talk much and Sven's got his own problems, lol. Seth and Kenny are clowns,Laurent is a bit more introspective and doesn't really like talking about just music. Sneak is kind of quiet, but don't get him started with food. Robert Hood can come off as cold at first but is a nice guy to talk to. Nina Kravitz is a self absorbed diva who really isn't fun to be around and neither is her ex boyfriend the anally retentive Ben Klock. Motor City is a tool but he plays great music and I could run down a few more but I'll stop there. I think that it's the film format that is limiting these guys, and not the guys themselves because I know for a fact that Seth has much more to say than what he said here. This is just to give an idea of gig hopping, time to set and what do I want to do when it's over.
KR8TZ
motor city is a tool!? aw man my world is crashing down. He seems like such a good guy.
Swindel
He's a great DJ with a serious understanding of house music, but he's a bad drunk, and since he likes to drink...A lot when he plays,well..you know. Oh and by clowns for Seth and Kenny,I mean that they've got jokes..Really funny guys. Cajmere is a clown too, lol.
KR8TZ
haha i figured that about seth and kenny! ive met seth a couple of times. Didnt wanna get too up in his face because he gets a shit load enough of that already, just wanted to give him some quiet props for the tunes. He was extremely nice and was good for a giggle each time. I'm a massive MCDE fan, love what he does! surprised to hear that! thanks for the response!
Cracked up at analy retentive Klock. Does he need to have a specific bottle of water from a certain stream from a certain time of year haha? something like that
RA should chronicle someone who doesn't tour that often, but has been in the game for a long time and spends most time in the studio like Jesper Dahlback
he is just getting better and better.....great dude
Seth's probably my favourite DJ, had the pleasure to meet him after his set at Mint Club on Saturday and he is genuinely such a humble and brilliant guy. One of the best in the business
He is realy one of the best DJ in the world, I think. Music played and mixed by him is amazing!
Damn. For someone who can only sleep 3 hours a night and gigs 24/7, Seth, def hasn't managed to miss any meals. Homeboy needs to find some time to hit the gym.
beer gut dude
Ethan Yarboro Also been on the road usually results in lots of takeaway food!
+Thomas Morris he also can eat some takeaway salad haha
+Ethan Yarboro Ketamine makes you bloated too lol
K4LIFE
you defo need one with laurent garnier. his passion is the strongest i have seen out of any DJ and for him it has always been all about the music and making people dance. that's it.
7:45 = Not on drugs
7:52 = On drugs
EEHEEEHEHEEEE
having no life and doing more than 150 gigs/year, it's a choice...
becoming manic or psychopath isn't about dj's, it's human when you have no life outwards, sleep just few hours and do parties 2-3 days a week whith all these extreme behavior...
seth i love your mixes and taste of music but stop this race for money and fame, and be a true artist, go to the studio to be a real creator and producer, do half gigs/year, and enjoying life outside parties... you wil be happier...
peace
This is the most being a young person in the 2010's vid ever. I mean holy shit.
He said "i really think i'm one of the best djs in the world".
Not for transitions.... never heard a correct one during his sets.
Hes not even close to being one of the best DJs in the world
Aikiraat i think by best he means most popular
+PapuStronk not even that
dude, hes been in RA top 5 for what? 5 years? i know that ranks arent everything.... but your saying that just because u dont like him..... he is not the best but definitely one of them
"correct transitions" the fuck does that mean? How could a transition be correct man it is all subjective
The David Brent of clubland
It's pretty sad to see how full of himself this guy is. He complains about fans wanting to take his picture, calls himself one of the best DJs in the world, but doesn't want the attention that comes with being a big deal. Has other people carry his vinyl, flys all over the world, lives a great life, and makes all of it sound like a really big pain in his ass. I bet he got into Djing for the love of the music. He should remember that.
He isn't complaining about fans wanting his picture he is complaining because most people are just doing it to show people that o hey look i met Seth Troxler and not taking the memory of it and also if you didn't understand he just wants to be viewed as another member as society yes he is one hell of a dj but he thinks the real people who should be big are doctors and things like that open your ears man damn
i think you underestimate how much getting famous sucks.
also he was voted by RA as the best DJ in the world in 2012, so he's not just 'calling' himself one of the worlds best DJs.
@J if you have enough money then you can buy awards... believe me on that
dat unibrow tho
I actually was thinking it was boys noize haha
I agree when he talks about people asking for photos for Instagram likes, not because they're a fan of who they are having a picture with. It's great to see the other side of dance/house music being discovered and being popular but it's often for the wrong reasons. I was walking past the Line for warehouse project in Manchester last night and I may be stereotyping to an extent but the majority of people there are only there to say they are there and for Facebook and Twitter, the majority buy the ticket and then RUclips who's on the bill
The dude amazed by the boat was amazing 😂
Love this guy, Brilliant content.
I like Troxler as a DJ but this video does him no favours. Some people genuinely do want photographs for memories Seth... I've got lots of pictures and memorabilia from some of the best times of my life clubbing, but I don't have any social media
I ❤ Tiga & Seth Troxler a lot!! Best DJ's
Great vid as usual RA! Love Seth's attitude, I wish I had the balls to be a bit more like him, minus the unibrow :)
to Eats Everything does not calculate it 😂😂😂 ahahahhahhaahaah great Seth, number 1.Go ler how he uses the headphones makes the chickens laugh😂ahhahaaha
Can we do a Derrick May Between the beats!!!
i kind of like Seth now that i've watched this documentary
great update about oneself SETH TROXLER, i have seen 2 other D;Js Talk a little like you on You Tube. Evil ED and Richie Hawtin. your music sounds good the bits i have heard on you tube, keep promoting hopefully i shall get to see/hear you some where near soon Herts,Beds,or Bucks;)
7:33 this explains EDM pretty well
Update: has a family and still tours every other weekend
Damnnn how ?
How does he manage to do that
I live in berlin and so weird seeing him there.
Douche: A Day in the Life
100% douche bag it's almost like watching anchorman
+Zac Matthews Mate... you hit it right on point. I could imagine the bit where he's talking privately being slipped into the films!
great video, very honest and shows a different side to troxler
I also hate this bad EDM shit on Tomorrowland, been there 3 times and no longer then 5 min @ mainstage ! Keep up the good work Seth and if i ask for a picture is this because you make great music and not for posting on my instagram or Facebook account ;).
which is the track that Seth shows to Tiga? good film, love it!
Time Warp (Original Mix) - Paul Johnson
spacecom thanks a lot, man!

Marc Ribas About 15:20

Does anyone know the track around 18:00 ??
That was a good watch. I like Seth he's a cool guy.
Ya the fat dude did
Is that teddy sherringham at 1:26?🤣🤣
Never heard Carl cox or Sven vath moaning about touring and they have been doing it since this guys been born
he speaks of the gospel and changing minds, yet the industry that supports him is itself made of nepotism and favoritism, which destroys itself every 5 or so years, and the chance of real talent in electronic music or any sense of democracy ..resident advisor being a classic example of the same industrial hype and hoopla ...
Holy crap... do not throw your friend under the bus like that on camera.
"its also flattering" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂✌
I guess Dj's save peoples lives before they die.
(To the comment on why people want pictures with him instead of doctors)
i liked the interview! direct, not humble. nice. good reference to garnier also. hope to see you in Sonar 17!
Joe and Liam from Akkord walking past looking bemused @ 17:11 lol

Good vid.
Nice!!
What is the track at the end?
news flash : beatport and records don't make you the best DJ in the world
did he do a line in the footage when he was in the car? sounded like he did
Why is no english subtitles? :(
how you criticize someone when you never been in his place?this for me is jealousy..cheers
i'm concerned that we never see people exercising or eating healthy in these videos...
lol
Paul Paturel facts though, no?
@@gee_emm it's also a fact that we don't see no yellow car in this video.. does it make it relevant ?
Paul Paturel that’s rather arbitrary! these videos portray the “DJ lifestyle”, which clearly involves some unhealthy habits. many of the DJ’s complain of a lack of sleep. drugs, cigs and alcohol are regularly involved. motor city talks about burning out and not taking care of his body. being a lover of music and considerably older than most of these people, us older ravers have to reconsider how we approach ‘partying’ to make it sustainable and not detrimental to our health. at some point, each generation of ravers/clubbers will have to grapple with this. my comment pertains to that. your comment... idk what!
@ 7:52 this guy shows his true colours.
Fair play dude
anyone knows the track at 1:06 ??? please
ricardo adame hercules
ricardo adame it's hercules and the love affairs
damn you guys did seth dirty with this video.
ahahhahha that was me at Tomorrowland.. just not impressed by the main stage. lol
You are sooooo gorgeous 😍
🖤
I thought this video was a spoof at first, like Spinal Tap.
