There is a famous adventure story called _The Four Feathers_ about a guy accused of cowardice by his friends when they go to fight in Sudan in the 1880s. This has been adapted into movies several times - most recently starring Heath Ledger, although the consensus is that the best film is the 1939 version.
The flashback scenes in this episode were epic, and it was great to see Jones as a young man without the aging make up on him.
Godfrey's line at the end ("the moving finger writes, and having writ, moves on") is a line from a poem written by Persian philosopher Omar Khayyam and translated into English by Edward FitzGerald. It basically means 'what's done is done'.
"This seemed to upset the old fakir..." is to this day still one of the cleverest bits of not-quite-swearing ever done in a family-friendly sitcom. 🙂

The funniest thing for me was the beeping-out of all the lines by the foul-mouthed character (played by captain Mainwaring). Great to see the dinner-lady played by the wonderful Queenie Watts, who often played the harridan in many of her roles.

@@bxkid7 It's OK, but I prefer the sausage and Yorkshire as separate items on the plate, then you can take the desired portion of each.
Toad in the hole its sausages in a Yorkshire pudding batter its very nice,never had snook fish but apparently its a white fish ,can't stand frasier hate how 2 faced he is
