Kate (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) comes up with a way to determine who is human and who might not be.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up. When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew's pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish. This scene is actually pretty good. Nowhere near as suspenseful as the original blood test but still pretty good.
My thoughts exactly. Although the movie was not good, this scene is decent, and a very clever way to kind of redo the blood test scene without it feeling like a complete rip-off.

Matthew (Student) Agonoy it's a game mode on a game called Gary's mod where a small percentage of the players are chosen to be traitors, the rest are innocent and there's on detective, no one knows who's innocent or traitor except for traitors, everyone knows who the D is, traitors get unique map abilities and items with the aim of using them to kill all innocents and the detective, detective also gets special tools. Gmod is only $5 on steam right now you should go check it out.
Spacestation 13 has a changeling gamemode where a small number of the station's crew will start the round as changelings, inspired largely by The Thing. You can find videos of it on youtube. Boatbomber's videos are popular with the community but people like Sssethzeentach and OneyPlays have reviewed it. Be aware though, there's quite a learning curve but I've never played another game with as much depth or dynamic gameplay. There are Heavy RP servers where changelings and crew have to actually act how they would, and there are noRP servers where antagonists and crew alike will utilize any means available, towards any end, to any extent. Like cutting off your own arm so that the changeling that's taken over security can't handcuff you.

I do say, though, that the imagery of a bunch of adults opening their mouths is a lot more humorous than one guy with a flamethrower holding a petri dish of blood.

Silly Goose Productions But this is how it's suppose to be. This group didn't figure it out the same way the other camp had. I would've hated it if the directors had done the exact same thing the original one had. This was different, maybe not as good or suspenseful but still interesting in its own way.
I think this is actually more suspenseful than the original blood test scene because everyone is opening their mouths wide and having her peer inside. Definitely expected some alien tentacles to come flying out and jab her in the eyes or something.

It’s more intense from the standpoint this test can’t actually detect the thing, only who isn’t one. So unlike the original, you don’t really know for sure who it is, only who it isn’t.

The actress is really great in this movie. She really holds her own with this mostly male cast and it shows in this scene. She played the character like Ripley to perfection.

Why were the characters so hesitant to show their teeth? Wouldn't they want to side with humanity and prove they WEREN'T the thing as quickly as possible? It doesn't make sense, and it's just an artificial way of building up tension. It inevitably fails, because it's clear they're trying to imitate the blood test scene in the thing, rather than come up with something more original.
Because the ones who were reluctant on doing the test had no fillings in their teeth. So it automatically made them orime suspects as possibly the Thing. So like the blonde guy says, having healthy teeth gets me killed?
no because the first film relied on the same tactics... not everyone was reluctant to give their samples... showing that you have no fillers means you might get toasted even though you're innocent

I liked both movies equally. This actress did a phenomenal job.
Lars is my favorite character next to Macready. Both of them are immediately on top of things and don't trust anyone unless they can be SURE that they are really human.
However, I can agree that this method isn't as black-and-white as the blood test. But then again, these guys are the first to encounter the thing so it was likely that they had no past victims to learn from or mistakes to correct like Macready's group did.

Because it’s not a 100% accurate, it’s basically a witch trial the whole movie.
essentially, there is a shapeshifting parasite, it kills and destroys a person, and then replicates into them, however it cant mimic artificial material, like metal. so anyone with a filing is safe. if you dont have a filling, then it could be you. orr you could jsut have clean teeth, or a nonmetal filing. So they put the good teeth and porcelain fillings in one corner, knowing that whoever is the monster is in that corner to narrow it down

I don't know if the comics are cannon, but the following still makes sense: What if the person could be the thing, and don't know it?
I don't know how much you have read and thought about the movies, but apparently it is a pretty big thing in the fan base that, what if you don't know if you are the thing? Personally I think it's bullshit, the thing kills you, and then copies you, that's it. But what if that was what some of them were thinking, then it would make sense for them to be afraid.

I think this is a great substitute for the originals blood test scene. The tense acting and suspense is very well done, the new fact found out about the creature is well written and I think it’s just as good as the original test scene. I think this movie is really good actually
I feel like this specific test scene was a little more sloppy than the other one: the evaluation method used by Kate is nowhere as effective as MacReady's since it works on the assumption everybody there has mediocre teeth-care (with the plot itself being aware of how stupid it is of a method), and not tying up any of the potential Things was a mistake as well: the creature is shown to be very quick when it comes to reaction. Aside from writing issues, the acting was pulled off very well by everyone.
@@tehrik0020 I like the faults in it tho, showing this first encounter wasn’t as thought out and they didn’t have an idea of how deadly it could be. In the ‘82 version they at least see the aftermath of the Norwegian base so they’re a little more precise in their predicament

Have you even seen the movies? it's an alien life-form that can imitate any other life-form what's it's digested them you can shape its own cells in order to imitate them. And it can change into any one of them at any time it wants. It replicates all of the hosts behaviors, gets all of the hosts memories, and even copies any defects the host may have like a weak heart.
I've seen movies but I don't watch movies like these, it's rare for me to find movies, but I don't know much about the thing, I only know it copies itself and kills people and gets burned over and over, didn't have to be so aggressive with me

Actually as far as fillings and other medical treatment involving metals such as hip replacements or bone screws there really is not many variables because at this point we know the thing cannot imitate inorganic materials. In the first movie it was found that the thing takes over a host cell by cell but metal has no cells so this test actually is valid. Now the problem is coming up with test for those with no metal in their body, I would not feel safe about doing a blood test to be honest but there would not be much option.

It would be nice for someone to do a proper sequel and have a character have a talk with a person that has been changed and taken over by the Thing. A way to get some info about where it came from and why it seeks to take over everything. That would be fairly interesting.
The Man From Another Place Although that would be very interesting from a science fiction standpoint, a lot of the horror aspects are eliminated once the Thing is something that can be understood and possibly even reasoned with.
Well, you could never really trust the Thing, or what its telling you. Clearly it doesn't view existence the way a person does. Plus, hearing the views and beliefs of something that is solely bent on your destruction from within at a cellular level, would be fairly creepy. Depending on how skilled the writers are for such a film.
The Man From Another Place I don't think doing something like that and maintaining a good horror vibe is impossible, just really improbable. But I do see where you're coming from with that.
That would not work at all. Just as Bossmanmustache said, the horror aspects are eliminated once The Thing is something that can be understood and reasoned with. The terror comes from it being this almost-animalistic organism that seems to do what it does to simply survive and spread, and you can only speculate where it originally came from and how exactly how it got here. Making it sentient ruins the element of horror. I would suggest you check out the short story, "The Things" by Peter Watts. It's the 1982 John Carpenter movie told from the perspective of the Thing creature and it explains it's purpose in trying to assimilate everyone. It's not canon with the films or anything, but that's about as much of an "explanation" as you're going to get.
One notable thing about all the Things - many of them assimilated paranoid or misanthropic outsiders.
Had it assimilated an intellectual or someone who truly believed that they might be spared even AFTER killing a few of their men, by coming forward, it actually might.
When it assimilates someone it absorbs their entire being, so they'd always be cursed with the mindset that each personality adopts... but it would be very interesting if in one of these films they open the door to redemption and 1 takes it... and it knows there's still yet another.
These creatures don't agree, they scatter, they form how they will, so you might end up with a Thing VS another Thing amidst a group. A creature that may even be able to provide useful knowledge but also crippling bias. He might be asked to be fed blood from each suspect, which while it would work, would absolutely freak out everybody involved. They can't even tie it up, since it can break down and scatter - and the entirety of The Thing would have to agree.
Worse, we may find its primary motivation is to avoid starvation - not just requiring food, but continuing to procreate, so while it may join the humans quite early, by mid-film it may have issues keeping all its parts "together" in crisis moments, as parts of it die off from starvation or for a need to procreate beyond sustenance.
They could go a long way with this - the one that joins the humans early may actually turn out to ultimately be the villain, since it may become hysterical by the end of the film, only to have the 2nd Thing turn around and ask to be frozen first thing, having seen it work with the original thing.
Also it would have to absorb someone they liked and trusted - and who knew that... and who wasn't pissed that it killed them.
If you were turned, in your friend group, would your friends be able to understand and move on, or would they take vengeance on your doppleganger? That's a tough leap to make.
Would make for good drama though.

If it cannot imitate inorganic material, does that also mean that it also cannot imitate tattoos or unnatural bodily imperfections. When it assimilates an organism, can it inadvertently heal scars and wounds, as they are not part of the natural genetic composition of the original organism?

Depends on the clothes. If they're made from plant fibers (cotton etc) they're organic and could probably be made by the Thing. If they're polyester, the Thing probably steals them after. You can't exactly steal and use fillings from a body.
