I was one of Nathan's patients in Utah. He was recommended to me in fall of 2017 after I had a toxic exposure to meth in the house I bought. I had no idea it was mildly contaminated - I bought it from an LDS bishop and RS president... However, that small amount of contamination destroyed my health and ended my career. I was horribly sick and had and still have painful neuropathy. I rarely went to doctors before this event, and I expected them to believe me. Few did and most didn't. I was told I was crazy. I was desperate and one evening when I called the on-call MD at my PCP office, the doctor told me to call Nathan because he saw people with weird issues. I immediately did that the next day, and he worked me in.
The office was very small with old, mismatched furniture, no receptionist or nurse. Nathan took a lot of time to do an evaluation and to try to help me. Some things I noticed immediately, he was thoughtful, kind, very smart but I could tell he was on the spectrum. His desk was messy and in disarray. I got annoyed he would take calls during my appts, so I bought him an answering machine and I told him he needed to charge people for the long phone consults. I saw him several times through 2019 - he only took BCBS insurance, and I had that at the time. He helped me get disability which I will be forever grateful for. I ended up migrating to other healthcare providers who did more integrative medicine or had more specific training in pain management. I always told him he could help more patients if he added some integrative treatments, but he wouldn’t allow himself to think outside that box. The last time I saw him was late 2020 when I dropped a gift for him off at the office. I could tell he wasn’t doing well. Nathan told me he was getting a divorce, and I was very sad about that considering the children. He looked gaunt and he was obviously living in the office. I texted him in summer 2022 to tell him I had breast cancer, and he was very concerned about that and offered his help. I texted back that I had cryoablation a month later and never heard from him again.
I was at the disability lawyer the other day and Nathan’s name came up. Andrew told me that Nathan closed his office in 2022 and disappeared. He had clients who needed medical records from Nathan, and he just vanished. I was stunned and shocked. I told a friend about it, and she did some sleuthing and found your blog and RUclips channel. I’m again just shocked at the story of your family - how someone could be one way with patients - and for those of you reading this Nathan has excellent reviews as a physician - he listened, mild mannered, validated and tried to help people with ME/CFS, fibromyalgia and just strange illnesses like mine and was so very smart . He helped me and for that I will always be grateful to him.
I’m so sorry for all the pain and suffering you and your children went through during your marriage. I had a friend/coworker who was a mild mannered, kind man with endearing quirkiness and one day we were driving and he snapped at me for something trivial and I seriously thought he would hurt me. My mother told me to forgive him and be his friend, which hindsight wasn’t good advice. I could forgive but cut off the friendship would have been healthier. For the next few years, it was like a Pandora box opened and he felt he could yell at me when we on overseas business trips. I couldn't tell anyone at work because they all loved him and would not have believed me. Luckily my travels with him were limited. I realized those quirky habits were mental illness. Finally, I just cut him out of my life and moved on to a new job and new life. I’m glad you did the same with Nathan. We can forgive but not forget the pain caused so it doesn't happen again.
I’m so happy for you and your new life and all the blessings you and your children have received. I hope that everything continues in an upward trajectory. I’ve read through the comments and people have given you lots of great feedback and suggestions. I hope too that somehow Nathan can get the help he needs and that he can be self-aware enough to make the necessary changes for him to live a productive life and perhaps make some sort of amends for all the pain and suffering he caused his family. Best wishes to you and I will try to donate to you when I can.

Wow! Thank you so much for sharing your side of Nathan as a patient the years after he moved out and he vanished for us too. Yes, he's always been a great doctor and I wish he would continue to be so. He is so gifted for medicine and being thorough and not in a rush with patients. I know he could do a world of good for them.
He wasn't a tyrant with his family. He didn't allow a lot of things like movies and controlled what we did on Sundays. And he ignored us for days if we did something he didn't approve of. He refused to think outside the box like you said. Like being ok with taking a walk on the Sabbath Day. But I think "tyrant" is too strong a word. He didn't mean to control us. It was his conscience. He felt responsible for us making good decisions and felt bad things happened to him if we "sinned" like ran the dishwasher on Sunday or went 2 over the speed limit. He had scrupulosity. I know he loved us and didn't mean to hurt us. It's the scrupulosity and mental illness driving him to do it.
Thank you for understanding! I tired to make it work for 20 years. I was the one who got him to go to med school classes every day, to push through his OCD when he couldn't go on, to stop fretting and confessing to the bishop about going accidently going through a red light. I knew he had great potential and could provide well for us and be the loving father he wanted to be. But he was getting worse and worse and doing scarier things. We became quite afraid of him. He no longer trusted me when I tried to talk him out of some of his weird ideas.
Your timeline sounds correct. I think it was around 2022 when he stopped calling us or using a phone or internet. He read every agreement for every product and website and thought they were all dishonest. He was consumed with honesty that took precedence over his family and that is so sad. He'd rather not use a phone b/c of a manmade agreement than talk to his family who God created. But I know it was his brain and not his heart. He just couldn't talk his brain out of conflicting issues like these or accepting insurances and such.
Yes I forgive him. And yes, I'm glad I got out when I did and that we are happy, safe, and not afraid anymore. Thank you for your prayers. And thank you for sharing your story! It was very interesting to read.

I can so identify with your story. Similar situation, couldn’t stick with a job more than 6 months, moved 13 times in 18 yrs. After 25 yrs of marriage, he left. We had three children together, two of which are special needs. They will need my support forever. No child support, but I’ve worked hard to pick up the pieces the last 4 yrs. My dream is a place like yours! Maybe someday. Thank you for sharing your experience and being an inspiration.

I’m an older Australian here. Boy, my story was different, but the same. I too asked God to put me where I should be. I also had a list and searched and searched for months. I also didn’t see this wonderful house we now call home because it was higher in price than my search requirements. I was almost at ‘the give up’ point when a friend pointed it out. We also bought online and the first 10 minutes of stepping onto the property were glorious and I remember saying, ‘I’m exactly where I’m meant to be’. I know this will sound crazy, but God told me it’s time to move and we had reluctantly accepted a 90 settlement request from the buyer on our previous property. I also remember God saying, ‘you’re behind schedule’, and I just kept getting things done for the move. Guess what? Two months after we eventually left there, there were, not one, but TWO mega floods, the likes of which had never been experienced in that area. (Just so you know, water went into the garage, but the house was saved). I love you God.

Oh no! I'm so sorry! I can't imagine. I wish I had good advice. Follow your gut. I applied to lots of jobs in town even though I always felt I shouldn't work in town but just ask parents for help for a year or two while working hard on my curriculum and doing nature camps and such. But I felt I would be judged if I didn't have a "real job" so I wasted months applying and interviewing at $9 an hour jobs I knew I would hate and didn't get them anyway. I always felt I should stay home and homeschool. That my kids need me right now and if I still can't make it in a few years maybe then I can work in town. At least they'll be older then. I cry a lot of nights with the weight and burden of finding ways to make money and also spend time with them, keep up the property, etc. Yet at the same time I know it's right and I'm fine with being poor. They're happy and healthy. I really hope you find something you love that you can do at times that work for you--teach piano lessons or art classes, babysit, clean houses, walk dogs, help elderly, etc. I love the jobs I can bring my kids to. They learn from the elderly we're helping, learn that not every job is fun, but also learn that I'm doing all I can to not have a regular 8-5 job out of the house. I'm praying for you! You can do it! You're stronger than you think!

Hi, Marcie! Nice to meet you, and I'm happy to find your video. Thanks for sharing your story. I can relate to your experience, sort of. After nineteen years of marriage and three children my husband decided he wanted another woman which was the hardest thing I have been through but I feel like God helped me and made me strong enough to face whatever came after that. Now I know that I was so much better off. We had purchased five acres from my mom and dad from the sixty acre farm that I was raised on with two brothers and one sister. So I was thrilled to be close to my mom and dad. We had a house built, the outside of it and then finished the inside ourselves while renting a house in town. So when we divorced I insisted that I got the house and the two younger kids. Our eldest girl had just gotten married. So a lot of things have happened since all that but I always hung onto my house. So thankful I did. You and your family are precious and God made sure you got the place that was just right for you. I am seventy seven now but my present husband and I are very happy farmers. We have goats and chickens. We raise a good sized garden and I can, freeze, and dehydrate food for the pantry. I am cheering you on and looking forward to learning more of your story. Thank you! And no worries, I expected it and I know people are just curious. I know some people like to judge and that's fine. I know I've made mistakes but I try harder every day to be better. I certainly love my life, love others, and feel gratitude for all the blessings God has given me. So many people have blessed my life and I am overwhelmed with how good people can be. And how good God is. I'm living my "happily ever after" right now and couldn't be more grateful for it. Without living with a mentally disabled husband, going through poverty, raising kids on my own, and other trials, I wouldn't be experiencing the joy I have now coming out the other side. I would be a rich doctor's wife with a mansion and pool but I wonder if I'd be as happy as I am now. I've had to work so much harder for my happiness and it's made me a stronger person.

Btw, Olympia Figs grow really well in Virginia and they grow fast. We live in Chesterfield and we have several. They don't mind the cold winters and within a few short years you'll have enough Figs to share with friends and neighbors, and they're delicious too. God bless!

Such a beautiful story. Love how you turned to God to help you find the right house and right location for you and your family and how it all came about. Absolutely love how it the land is filled with fruit and nut trees/bushes and creeks and springs and the house gave you so much more room for your large family and while the house was more than planned its still cheaper than you was paying. I so love how you picked yourself up after hardship in marriage and divorce and pushed forward with you babies. Such a strong and brave mother.
Me and my husband are picking up, selling our house and moving to Tennessee to take care of my mother whom is sick. Plus now we have his father movingbwith us too (he is hoping to have/build a small efficiency apartment on our land for himself). House hits the market next week. We still havent found a house in Tennessee the houses there are more than double what they are here and we wanting yo stay in a certian price range too. And we want all the fruit and nut trees/bushes, a big garden, big shop for my husband, and with hopes of an small apartment/tralier on the land too. We have turned to god to help us find the right place at the right time for the right price too. I dont know where, how, or when...but I known it will be there for us. While it seems like a tall order....I KNOW everything is possible through GOD.

You by no means had it easy. The sacrifices and hard work remind me of the olden days when people wasted nothing and used what was available to them. I talking the days of Victory Gardens. When you said that the 1st thing your family did was to create a vegetable garden, I knew how much of a survivor you are. Many of your experiences remind me of my life. I too once lived on a 2 1/2 acre tobacco farm but in Tn. where there was a vegetable garden of cantaloupe, beans, lettuce etc. It was planted by the previous owners who were missionaries. I absolutely loved it there. We were there for 4 years, until my husband decided to divorce. God bless you and your family. I'll keep on watching.

I love this! You are so right! He blesses us more than we can ask or think. This house turned out way better--more property, fruit trees, creeks, bedrooms, etc--and cheaper than the 20 acre place I first wanted in 2011. I had to wait 10 years but I was blessed more than I deserve. Thanks for your kind words!
