@NQExplorers Hi Warren, was a good trip, mate, and will definitely do it again. Yes, left the strings at home as it's difficult to string out a field with 30 or so other detectorists wandering about. Glad you enjoyed the video, mate, all the best to you and MrsNQ, Ian.
@GrizzlyGroundswell Hi Grizzly, was a great trip, totally different hunting with other people, really enjoyed it and had a great time. I'll have to do these organized trips more often I think, all the best, mate, Ian.
@1963Willo Hi Willo, thanks, mate, yes it was a great holiday and while the weather was good down there it was still hammering down at home (the missus was not amused), all the best and HH, Ian.
@Ringo853 Hi Ringo, there were several other hammered coins found, a nice William III sixpence, nicely decorated crotal bell amongst other things but a lot of people didn't find anything but trash, was a really good few days though and I think everyone enjoyed it.
@leafster99 Hello, mate, glad you enjoyed the video, despite the wind, at least the rain kept away for the most part. Seems quite a number of people liked that pottery jar. Am going to contact the museum in Bridport to see if they would like it. All the best to you and HH, Ian.
@OLDGOLD1100 Thanks John, was a great find for me, if it hadn't been for the damage to the right hand side I think it would have graded VF, still am chuffed to bits with it, good luck to you and all the best, Ian.
Thanks for the heads up, Eric, I'll pass your message on to the guy who organises our trips. Have to say though that the coins I found are almost certainly genuine due to the corrosion in the soil imprints and the condition of the coins, which would be really difficult to fake. Take your point on the financial aspect of this though. All the best, Ian
@Ringo853 Hi Ringo, yes, mate, one of the fields was the site of an old rubbish tip and there was loads of iron and china/glass/pottery fragments but also a few complete bits, I just picked these up as I was wandering round with the detector. HH, Ian.
The Isle of Wight is treating you nicely with that cracking hammered coin, Ian. Not sure about the spike, it looks too flimsy to go on top of railing fence, nice find all the same. Good luck on your next search :D
@eyediggit2 Hi Carl, yes thought that was a neat little find, there's a whole load of net pages on the history of 'Poor Mans Friend' quite interesting, one of them even gives the recipe!! All the best and HH, mate, Ian.
@MrSpud67 Thanks, mate, and congratulations on hitting your first hammered, well done, what was it? Am sure it's the first of many, good luck and all the best, Ian.
@fluoridekid Hi Rich, yes well pleased with that and I think you're probably right about the spike, I just couldn't think of what else it could be, all the best, mate, Ian.
@GrizzlyGroundswell Hi Grizzly, well I've booked into another trip in February next year and am looking at maybe doing a few others in the meantime as other parts of the country are having much better weather than we are here. I have an article almost ready to submit, just need to get the photos together to put with it. All the best, mate, Ian.
Hi Shaun, can't really help you there, this was an organised dig, similar to a rally, that we paid to go on and the 6permission was not ours. I think the organisers are still doing digs in the IOW and were based there. I got on through a club in Barnsley though. Best bet is to still chat up the farmers and landowners. Good luck and happy hunting, Ian.
Hi glad you had a great holiday and some good weather from the looks of it, well done on that hammered, an outstanding find!
Nice variety of finds on your detecting holiday, must have been a nice change to detect on different soil.

Hello, just a question where is this field? I'm trying to find a place to metal detect in the Isle of Wight right now but can't find anywhere to.
