Chris is my mentor. Even if he doesn't know it. I didn't have people around me I could look up to as a guage to where I should be heading in, but by seeing the tenacity of Chris' goals I was able to formulate my own goals.
And I love him so much.. he is the breath of fresh air, I love designing, I am very creative, you know sometimes how introvert are.. not only introvert but any one can be creative, you have inspired me so much Chris, be blessed more.. from Tanzania
Also, I think it is important to know which people make the best mentors. Some people are more prone to help someone if it is built into what they do regularly. Potential Mentors can be those involved in their community, with non-profits, certain board members who routinely give their time to provide value, instead of receive it. Definitely research the person before the ask to see if it would be a good fit. Love the Futur and this video! Thank you guys.
Amazing! It makes so much sense when you break the mentor's time into monetary value. I find that offering a service and receiving feedback from a mentor is a good way to start. Prove that you are worthy
Hey Mr. Do I and probably many other viewers would appreciate you even more for sharing a list of good things to read or watch, which will help us in our progress of becoming a better designer and businesshumanbeing, with us. Thanks a lot. Love the videos!
Thank you, I just planned to talk to some of the people I targeted to give some reviews on my future product (which I'll ask them to review after I made it definitely), and for their valuable time, I'll give away my product which will worth 28-40$, but watching this video in the right time made me more perfect before asking them, I'll ask them after 1/2 months later when my product is ready, but being prepared well before time is something awesome. Thank you, Chris, for this video. I'll think more on how to give them enough value to immediately get their attention :)
Thank you, Chris, this is really valuable. I think I know what mistake I made now. On another note, I would really love to pick your brain in regards to the future of learning. If you ever have 10 minutes free, I'd love to see if there is something that I can do to help you achieve your vision.
Hi, Chris, I respect your time and effort in creating those amazing mentoring videos, I am an entrepreneur in with a start-up in the creative field, and I was wondering if I can have a little bit of your time 10 -15 min, is there something that I can do for you, take you to a virtual cup of coffee or some work that I can do for you to earn that time?
You are not specific. You dont offer value exchange. You talk me me me, how can I earn your time? Wha is he actually gaining? If you said "Hey Chris, how about a bagel & cup of coffee on me at a place of your choice 15mins before work starts so I can share a few well-researched marketing concepts that can impact your educational platform on a positive note & help you get your conversion rates up even more?" He gets free valuable info &, free breakfast at a place of his choosing (probably close to work). Theres the anchor. You got him.
What goes through my head is: Do I have anything that person finds valuable? They have teams, they have connections, and do I even meet their criteria for good work? How would you reach out to someone on a different continent with this method? Value propositions are really confusing for me
@@thefutur I understand but my skills in design are the same as anyone else's near them with likely higher qualifications most likely. And I have no idea how I can be of use to someone I'd want as a mentor. I've asked "if there's anything I can do for you, please let me know" and they don't reply ever again. What are usual valuable things to designer-mentors that an entry-level designer can offer to do? I've never worked with senior designer so I really don't what they possibly would want
IamSolez i’ve been self taught in design since i was around 10yrs old. my life (and my career) drastically changed as soon as i met my mentor. there are some things only experience in the field and the direct criticism of a keen eye (and the beautiful, loving experience of human interaction) can teach u.

Kiril Spasov Now you’re assuming that he needs that.

What would be of use to them. How can you assist them based on your skills?

"Got $250?"
Haha! And that actually is how it often works :D Paid mentorships are a legit solution.
